Besides the issue with Perfect Dark (unable to play multiplayer; can't use cam spy item) and Snowboard Kids (screen goes black when a race starts), everything seems okay. When I tested some certain games for different servers, all but some of the N64 games played great for me. I'm still not entirely sure if my location [Georgia, US] has anything to do with it.

I have this one issue that bothers me a to some extent on Netplay. One of these days I have decided to play Diddy Kong Racing with some of the users from the Netplay lobby. I noticed that all the data was not there as I was playing the game ( I had beat the game ). So I figured that I may have to unlock some tracks in the game again but this time it would be during Netplay. So I decided to play single player during one of the sessions I've created to unlock a few tracks so they can be available for everyone to race. A few minutes later I invite a user to play 2 players an we played for a while. I made sure to save in the game for the next time I create an session. That time comes and I'm ready to play again. Once again I host and the data was not there, even when I tried to unlock it during Netplay. It also does the same when I play Mario Kart 64 and Super Mario World. Does Netplay not save your game data ? Or am I doing it the wrong way ?

In my experiences Netplay does not save data nor does it allow you to take screenshots and upload them. As a matter of fact, every time you play a game you have to re-configure your controls.

Saving never worked for any game I tried. I always thought I was doing something wrong. I also have to input the controls in order to use my pc controller all the time.

Yes, just as Jordanv78 says. All the time. I don't mind doing it every now and than but it does get a little annoying.

Hello my question is:
If i live in Baja California it is a good place to connect to which server on netplay

Maybe this has been asked before somewhere, or mentioned or something, but are there any plans for Pokémon (the GBA) to be on/integrated with Netplay? I feel like these games (as you need the complementary game to beat them, FireRed to LeafGreen and so on) would be excellent to add to Netplay, and would definitely make a lot of people happy.
Or maybe something similar to Netplay? If Netplay is having (problems?) saving/loading, then such a feature would be absolutely null for the Pokémon games.

Or maybe that's impossible and I'm just hoping for too much at the moment? I'm not emulator savvy, nor am I savvy with anything other than single player on here, but it would be awesome if something like this were to exist.

jakkthebeastie : If we can come up with the budget for it we'll add it but since gameboy netplay is so complicating, it'd cost me a lot of money to have it added.

Okay. I can see how that would make sense. Based on the current donation/income/whatever money this site has on its own, do you think that Netplay/online play for GBA is probable anytime soon?

Either that, or having it so that people can meet on this site through the game chat or something, but also be able to do it individually? Again, I'm not emulator savvy. But is something like this even possible? I've heard that VBA has some sort of online play, but I'm not sure if the person who was talking about it meant networked play (emulator to emulator) or online play (like on the actual Internet/ connection).

If the emulator that Vizzed RGR uses for GBA games is similarly coded to VBA, would it be possible to somehow link people on a separate channel, if you will? (As in, all of the individual players playing offline could be in the main game room, playing by themselves. And then whoever wanted to trade/link up could chat one another, or use the game chat to find each other. Perhaps have a separate "online" chat, based on the functions for online play? It could even be in another tab or something, able to swap with the single player chat.)

And now I'm rambling.

But yes. Thanks for replying. Your reasoning does make sense, I'm just eager for this to happen and haven't ever gotten the guts to ask for it, as I am new here.

jakkthebeastie : Probably not soon, at the very earliest, 6 months. Based on the current flow of revenue, that's about how long it'd take to get the money for it.

My Plugin developer had a list of reasons why the VBA emulator wouldn't work for netplay on the site.

When I use netplay for a Super Nintendo game, it lags to a point I can't play it properly. Never had an issue with playing SNES games with netplay, so this is a recent issue. Any reason why this is happening now, if I may ask? :o

Well, I have a bit of a problem, been having it since August. The SNES is just a black screen for me, Sega Genesis lags severely (4-5 minutes, game freezes) then it speeds up like crazy once it stops lagging, and N64, some games won't even work on netplay.

Davideo7 : I have 36mbps down and I'm in Chicago. SNES games are tricky for some people. It seems like it's something to do with that emulator...Genesis games work fine.

Sadly no, sir. It's the same right now and it seems to be a bit worse on the US 2 server when I tried it out. o.o
I guess if the problem does not decease, I can stick to Sega, Nintendo and N64 games for netplay since they still don't give me any problems thankfully.

I just have a question about the Netplay feature. How does it work exactly? I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

SunflowerGaming : The Netplay Sessions page has a chat room where you can talk with users. Also on the game page, it'll show that you have an open session as well.

Davideo7 : Oh well I can't access the chat room feature but that's cool that it has a feature where you can see someone is in a game session. Is there any way you can add a feature that you can invite users to a game session? Or is that not possible because of the retro games?

Davideo7 : When I join a Netplay Session even a Netplay Session with the Europe Server the Controls lag a lot especially with Nintendo 64 Games.

SuperGameBoy1 : I'll restart the server to see if that helps. Should be done restarting in a half hour, be sure to let me know if that helps. If it doesn't, I'll need more info, such as which systems lag and which don't.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask... but I have a question. Are there any plans to implement Netplay for MAME? I haven't really had a chance to fiddle with the netplay yet here, so I'm not even sure which emulators you have it on and what methods you use... but I was just curious about this since I know the concept exists.

Crazy Li : Probably not. I don't think there's any MAME emulators out there that support netplay.

Davideo7 : There most certainly are. I've been netplaying MAME since 2003 o.o;

The basic MAME emulator for Windows, MAME32 has been modified for netplay on the Kaillera network (not by the original developers, mind you). This version is typically called MAME32K. Now I don't know if Kaillera-based netplay is something that is compatible with the RGR plugin, so this may not work for you. I'm pretty sure that a lot of other emulators do their netplay this way as well though (Gens and FCEU for example).

Crazy Li : Actually the 1964 emulator within the Plugin uses Kaillera for its netplay. I'd have to ask with Tom to see how much he'd charge for adding netplay compatibility to the MAME games.

CryBaby : That tends to happen for some reason. I'll try restarting the Vizzed.co server and see if that helps.

Ok I have the netplay server restarting right now, should take about a half hour. When it's back up, you should do a test to see if the N64 netplay is working better.

Hello, I have two questions. Firstly, is there any kind of compatability list? I haven't used it much but im sure there are atleast some games that just have a problem with netplay regardless of console. Secondly, how is netplay straight straight from the emulator themselves? I've had Zelda four swords forever with my advance and still have never had a chance to play it.

Davideo7 : Since both of us has sometimes experienced lagging and slow game play with N64 games, it may be either me or bobq or both. =T Do you think it may be connection related?

Hey David, I just wanted to make you aware that the issue that crybaby is referring to is still occurring. I have netplayed mario kart 64 with others and sometimes this glitch occurs, but sometimes it does not. I am not sure if my computer is the problem, or if there is another reason.

It appears that one of the people you are netplaying with is driving into walls or driving in reverse.

Is the way your internet connection treats the games in general any indication of how it will treat them in netplay?

Surgiac : Games aren't affected by a user's internet speed, only the time it takes to download the game is affected.

hey David, in the past couple weeks, there has been a large amount of timeout errors occurring in the netplay sessions, these errors occur almost immediately when the session is created.

The problem has only appeared and intensified within the past 2 weeks, as I had not seen it before then.

Also, I noticed that you have changed the netplay sessions page and have gotten rid of usa limited and asia. Have you decided on how to raise awareness of netplay again, because I feel like once the special netplay offer ends in January, netplay will go back to being an under appreciated part of the site. Maybe lowering the price for the netplay item might help, or extending the special offer. I am not sure how you plan to fix this situation, because a lot of people who used to be on netplay a lot, just dont show up anymore.

bobq : I think I'll keep it so that anyone can join sessions but you'll still need the netplay item to create sessions.

Which server gives you the troubles?

it seemed to happen constantly on the usa limited server, but now that that server is gone, it still happens occasionally on the usa server.

I recommend people use sonikku's server.

Sorry to be the one to bare bad news, but it seems like all the n64 sessions keep crashing.

David, you made it sound like having GBA netplay added was actually a possibility if the money was there... I wasn't aware that this was a thing that was possible. The creator of Visual Boy Advance had officially stated that he will NOT implement the GBA Link feature for Online Play because of the way the GBA and link cables work with their synchronization, it just wasn't something he could do.

Since the emulator is open source, someone else ended up making VBA Link that enabled the Link option locally where you could open up to 4 instances of VBA on the same local computer and at least link those up. The last I heard on the VBA Link project, they also got LAN netplay working... but there was no way they could get it to work outside a local network with any degree of stability. Heck, even the LAN version isn't really stable enough to use reliably. I've tried it for Pokemon battles, and it likes to randomly disconnect.

I recall that there was an old emulator for GBC and regular Gameboy games that did do real netplay which I've used before but that was also extremely unstable and had a tendency to disconnect a lot not really giving more than 5 minutes of real netplay without interruption.

So unless Tom can work magic that no one else has, I don't see how GBA netplay is ever gonna happen, money or not. I think you'd sooner be able to get it on something like MAME considering netplay for that has been around for at least 10 years now.

Hi Davideo7. I'm having a problem. My Netplay sessions keep timing out. I get a "waiting for other players..." message followed by a countdown.

Davideo7 : Sorry if I sounded know-it-allsy or like I was trying to say you were wrong or anything. I just thought it was odd. I'm not saying it's NOT possible... but based on my own knowledge of emulation, it didn't sound too likely... but it'd be awesome if it was a thing that could be done for sure. I obviously don't know all there is to know and I'm not someone who's looked at the source code for any of this stuff before (and even if I did, I'm sure I wouldn't understand any of it xp )

Also, why is the Netplay chat room locked with a password? It makes no sense since you can get into the room without needing the password through the retro game room.

David, is it possible to use Netplay over Gameboy games or Gameboy Advance titles? I would like to trade pokemon with a friend but I don't know if it's possible...

bobq : Because users are only suppose to use that chat room if their on the netplay page. That room isn't meant for hanging out, it's meant for discussing netplay and finding people to start a session with.

Hey David, Kiddo gave me an idea just now.

Somebody asked him for Viz for the netplay item, and I told Kiddo to make the person earn it. So kiddo suggested doing a netplay tournament.

Why don't you set up a netplay tournament where the prize is viz, or people have the option to gamble their Viz through netplay. I figure it would bring attention to netplay more so. Although you would likely need to fix n64 games from crashing frequently.

It should also be noted that it is fairly common for people to not be able to get n64 and /or snes games to work due to graphic card issues or something like that.

How can i play netplay super mario party 3 without having the itemnetplay? i cant play

Am I the only one to have issues with the european server on Netplay ? It says "failed to connect to server" and emulator closed while the windows keeps with "game loading", it's exactly the same when I'm trying to host on my own. It works with USA server (and sonikku's server) but I play with my nephew, we are both in France, so with the US server there is a bit of latency (in streets of rage, the guy punches 1/2 second after we hit the button). When I first started a netplay session (on europe server), a guy in the chat said "I can't connect to server", so I don't think the problem comes from me.

That's so strange How can i create netplay sessions on Mario Kart 64 even though i don't have the netplay item?

John23 : Mario Kart 64 is a game that is free right now for Netplay because of a Tournament. There will frequently be games where they are "Sponsored" and you will be able to do this.

It's sad that when I remembered playing netplay before, there always is problems not only with lag, but input delay. Putting this into consideration as this is unavoidable, this is just like Super Smash Bros Brawl's massive problems with lagging and input delaying. I know this because whenever I play my first wifi match of the day, the game is super laggy no matter what I do. The wifi brawl does input delay and lag all the time, which is how people suck on brawl online most of the time. Yes, this is a netplay related problem and also relates to SSBB's wifi problems that are unable to get fixed.
