I was making my laptop a dual boot so it could run Vista and Linux Ubuntu. Well, i thought i had it so Vista had the majority of the HDD. I thought wrong. It turns out that Ubuntu had the ENTIRE HDD. So, i no longer have Windows. I have a CD with Vista in it, but when i put it in, Ubuntu doesn't read it. I NEED Windows.

ANY help will be a big help(no irony intended)

Errm... Ok. Put in your windows CD, restart, enter it in boot, make new partition, install Vista on one partition, install Ubuntu on other.

That actually didn't work.
I put in the Vista CD, Restart the laptop, enter in boot screen, and it doesn't give me the option to do that.
This is WAY out of my league. Seriously. I have no idea what i'm doing with this.

Well then you're not as much of a computer nerd as you thought.

Anyways, what you want to do is split your hard drive into two partitions, so that you can install Vista on one and Ubuntu on the other. Now this erases everything on your hard drive, and an usually be done trough either the Ubuntu CD or Vista CD

That i do know. What i don't know is how to get the partions because the darn Vista CD doesn't run.

Well, it's not the CD that's messed up, it's that my computer doesn't scan the CD. I put it in, close the CD/DVD slide, and my computer doesn't scan it.
Any ideas?

Go into bios and make sure that your computer is set to boot from CD, also are you sure that the CD is indeed bootable in the first place?

Well, i just looked in Bios and CD/DVD was the first boot up thing.

Edit: I called Gateway Support and they can't figure out what's wrong. They sent a recovery disk that'll fix the issue. Needless to say, i am NEVER gonna do anything like this again. If i wanna use Linux, i'm gonna do it through my USB drive.

you need to use the boot menu funtion of the bios, i think its F8 on startup (might be different for you, it should say what button it is), anyway it will bring up a boot menu, select the dvd drive and if it still doesnt want to read then it may be either your bios is stuffed, but id lean towards your vista disk being stuffed.
