thenumberone : I should probably explain my rather poorly put phrase about debt by saying that Americans are in debt because they are such big customers for countries like China and Japan, who rely on the US for exports. If the US did not spend so much, it would be questionable where many of the modern wealthy countries would be. Although I do agree with you in the fact that if China took over the US because the Americans bought too much from them, it would be hilariously ironic. Basically one of the main things I'm trying to say is that sure, the USA is sporadic at best with its spending. But to be honest, if they were to just disappear tomorrow, I believe that the world would suffer more than you'd originally think.

thenumberone : So really this is a debate over the existence of necessary evil. Except in select cases, i am not personally a big believer. My thoughts are that what is necessary is always wise, and what is wise is never evil. Yet this forum states that America is both necessary (meaning its existence is wise) and still evil. This is quite contradictory. How can a system rely on a part that is truly corrupt? How can the world rely on a country that is totally evil? It can't.

Izziah :
No.
America isnt the greatest due to the amount of corruption and wrongdoing. this dosent mean its worthless.
I woulnt say america is evil, nor is it, strictly speaking, necesary, as in its departure another would step in to take its place.
Equally, the world dosent rely on america

thenumberone : Alright I suppose I can leave this discussion at that. Mostly I joined this thread because the first post stated many points that I happen to disagree with, as already stated previously. But I should not be so arrogant as to say that America is the greatest of all the countries in the world. Just as everyone is different, every country is different as well, and significant in its own fashion. So in one way, I agree with this thread in that America is not the greatest nation. But one would be hard pressed to find another candidate. Thank you for the debate. I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. We should do it again sometime

In my previous post I said that saying a country is better than all the rest shows that they are actually inferior to the rest, and I still think thats true. At the same time I think its perfectly acceptable to compare countries and say which is better off. For instance, most people would probably agree that North Korea would be one of the worst countries to live in.

I think there are countries with better qualities than America so I feel like they can't compare to other countries on certain things.

Honestly, I don't think it matter what country is better than another..... we all live on the same planet and face the same problems.
