The COPPA is safe to protect people under 13, but now I can't chat anymore until my birthday! I will agree with the COPPA a little, not much since I loved to vizzed chat, and now I can't enter the rooms except for the immature and guest rooms without getting kicked or banned, also, the guest and the immature rooms are inactive most of the time so I will miss chat a lot!

Personally I'm not a huge fan of parenting peoples kids, or censorship. I think that if the parents paid attention to what they were doing online, being in a chat room wouldn't be that big of a deal.

That being said, if this is a situation where there will be a chat room for kids, and one for adults, that would be ok. I just think it wouldn't be a good idea to alienate a big portion of the membership base.

There is a kids room. It's called immature chat.

A lot of people seem to have a misunderstanding of COPPA... it's not to prevent them from coming in, it's more to make sure parents are aware of what they are doing. We don't want kids under 13 just randomly giving away information away, because it's technically not legal for us to "gather" it without expressed written consent by their legal guardian.

Since there is no real way we can get written consent from parents... we just chose to go about it this way, and bar children under 13 from the majority of the chat rooms.

ProGamer135 : Here is the reason, you aren't old enough to go into any room, if you are the same age as me, you could enter the kids room and the guess chat/help room. Since the age restriction for the chat rooms is 13+ except for the kids room and the help room, those 2 room restrictions are 12+, it prevents younger people from entering chat for safety. So if you wanted to enter a room, you will have to wait for your birthday. Sorry, there isn't anything that I can do. When you become 13, then you will be able to finally OFFICALY enter chat. Hope it cleared that.

I understand the "Law" but don't we collect some of that information when people sign up to become a member of the website? I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just wondering.

Within the rules, we have to emphasize that no one will be discriminated against by age. It'd be rectified with simply adding a checkbox for those under 13 that says they have parental consent to join... but David is busy.

I'm not being indignant. I'm simply stating what the rules are. Someone has to be the no nonsense person who tells everyone how it is. There is no room for joking when it comes to this.

Well I think it's fine that that is the minimum age.

I can't say I haven't seen kids the age of 9 or even 10 saying stupid things and just ruining chat for everyone.

I can also understand the fact how we have to protect the kids that go on here. Some of the things talked about on there can get a little out of hand.

And obviously the people re-registering have no idea what this whole thing is about and think we're just being un-fair.
