So, I fell in love with a smoker.
I know that sounds silly, and it is definitely still stupid to smoke cigarettes. Personally I like the way it looks when someone is taking drags of a cigarette. Do you find cigarettes attractive? Meh? Utterly repulsive? Would you date someone who smoked cigarettes? If you are a smoker- Does your partner or previous partners smoke? Do they mind it or not? Cigarettes isn't sexy at all. yeah, you can fall in love with somebody who smokes, but you probably fell in love with the person by their personality, etc. At least, that's my opinion about it. |

Once upon a time it was sexy, and if shot in the right light it can look sexy in movies and stuff like that, but really I don't think it really would enhance any feelings I might have for a person.
I would date someone that smoked, as long as they didn't always stink and/or have bad breath. I have dated girls that smoked and they were always good about that stuff, but I could see how it would be a hindrance to intimacy though. pacman1755 : I agree. It's purely an aesthetic thing and has next to nothing to do with his personality.
I used to say that I'd never date someone who smoked cigarettes. (My main concern was not wanting to date someone who had the potential to become very sick.) But what I found is that: 1. Love is blind. 2. Smoking is not really a personality trait. It's a bad habit. Despite it being harmful it doesn't make up 'who they are' to a large degree. (Someone else might have had a different experience with this, but it's true for all of my friends and family who smoke.) That's why I was able to initially overlook it. If he quit I wouldn't feel any different about him. Jordanv78 : The smell does not bother me. My whole life I have been around family members who smoke - although not my immediate family members - and I've come to associate the smell of cigarettes with good things. Oddly. The taste of cigarettes does not linger in his mouth for more than a few minutes. Either way it's still terrible for his health. That part is not sexy, obviously. I expect most people to say it's completely unattractive. I used to say that I'd never date someone who smoked cigarettes. Whaaaaat?
Lol. Not at all, i find it pretty off puting tbh, which is saying something since all my familly smoke. Every element of it disgusts me really, i wish tobacco was never discovered, and i cringe that my country was perhaps the biggest cause of its rise to prominance. Lol. Not one bit. I really think that smoking is disgusting. It makes you stink, it's turns your teeth yellow, and it's harmful to the smoker and those around him/her. It's actually worse to spend a lot of time in close proximity with a smoker than to smoke yourself. I can't comment on the stench because I wasn't around, but cigarettes used to be much less unhealthy. Before they started adding all those chemicals and whatnot in the 50s, cigarettes really weren't so terrible. They weren't good, but they didn't actively try to destroy you from the inside out like they do today.
Personally, as soon as I see someone with a cigarette I immediately become much less attracted to her, and if I wasn't attracted to her in the first place, it gives me reason to not be around them. If I see the most beautiful, caring, sympathetic person in the world light up a cigarette, I will have to think twice. Thankfully that person doesn't smoke. I forgot to say that high heels are stupid, pointless (you know, figuratively) and quite laughable. Nah I don't.
I personally think that they just ruin your teeth and make you less likable. I would hate to date someone who smokes regularly. Just looking at the teeth of someone who regularly smokes can make me feel as if it is repulsive. I personally think that they just ruin your teeth and make you less likable. I don't really find it sexy, but it's not really a turn off. Some people can really pull it off, though. But it doesn't really make or break anything for me. Closer to break than make, but if I like someone then them smoking isn't that big a deal.
I actually used to love it when my mom smoked (well, I hated that she smoked because it made me worry about her health), because she would sit outside and I'd sit out there and talk to her. I haven't been able to talk her like that in forever and I really miss it. (Way off topic, but I couldn't help myself). So my answer is: Meh, I'd date someone who smoked but, it would be coincidental. I hate the smell of nicotine and I hate smoke. I don't think I could date someone who smokes because the way a man smells is kind of important to me. I want to be able to kiss him and hug him without gagging...
However, I DO understand the appeal. When I see a handsome man smoking, it makes me think of those dashing big band singers from the old days.. But once I get a whiff of him, NO THANK YOU. But, if I associated nicotine with a positive memory, who knows how I would feel about it. Brains are weird things. However, I DO understand the appeal. Mmm. Sexy. But in all seriousness, I do not find it sexy. I can't stand the smell and my eyes water if I am in the house of someone who smokes indoors. I hate the breath as well. With that said, whether or not I could fall in love with a smoker has variables. If they did not smoke indoors, only had a cigarette once in a while, made sure their dental health was up, didn't try to convince me to smoke, and are able to keep the smell of their clothes, then sure. I know that that is a long list that is difficult to follow, but I know people who smoke who do follow this. There are some that I had no idea they even smoked until they mentioned it over a year later. That's fine with me. But that doesn't change that I don't find that part of what they do sexy. Mmm. Sexy. I don't find smoking attractive... okay the only exception is Sanji from One Piece LOL But I would never date someone who smokes. There are people in my building who smokes inside so the whole stair well n hallways smell like smoke so I purposely start coughing and hacking obnoxiously loud lol - i do that when I pass by people smoking too xD Plus- smoking has TONS of short term and long term side effects (like the other peeps were saying). I can't really stand the smell either sooo if I was dating a smoker- i could tell you right now it wouldn't work out. rcarter2 : ... ABSOULUTELY NOT. It tends to get people with disgusting teeth, smoky smell 24/7, it's bad for your health, and it makes them look pale in skin (although I DO realize that some people are just naturally pale like that.) |

I'm a smoker....and for some reason female smokers I'm not attracted to...but men smokers attract me! There's no logic to this...it just is! We all know smoking is horrible and nothing is sexy about it rotting away ones health.
I find it funny because back in the day, there would be commercials and magazine ads of attractive, seductive, women sexually holding and smoking a cigarette....this increased the sales of tobacco products and increased the number of smokers each year. After awhile this was and had to be changed because of the huge increase of underage smoking (younger generations are so easily influence)...they would think smoking is "cool" based on these commercials/ads. http://www.tobaccoworld.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/french-woman-smoking.jpg < Prime example. Overall, I don't have a problem with smokers or smoking and I don't think it's attractive. Weed is a whole different story!! I find smoking utterly repulsive, which sounds bad, but I don't really care if someone else smokes, and I'm not trying to get anyone to stop, I just wouldn't kiss someone who did. Or even hug them. It stinks. Which isn't saying that actually smoking stinks, because in fact I quite enjoy the smell of second hand smoke (I do all my smoking second hand), but the smell it leaves on a person's clothing is just rotten.
I say all of this as I feel the addiction slowly building in my system, of course. I say all of this as I feel the addiction slowly building in my system, of course. |

Smoking a cigarette is extremely wrong an extremely not sexy. There are many reason not to smoke. I will name as many as possible.
Reasons Not To Smoke Here are some facts and some information on the dangers and hazards of smoking. Reading and understanding this information should be enough to convince you to not start smoking. Cigarettes -Cancer Causing Agents in Cigarettes (carcingoens): Nitrosamines, Crysenes, Cadmium, Benzo(a)pyrene, Polonium 210, Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), Nickel, DibenzAcidine, B-Napthylamine, Urethane, N.Nitrosonornicotine, Toluidine. -Metals in cigarettes: Aluminum, Beryllium, Zinc, Magnesium, Mercury, Gold, Silicon, Silver, Titanium, Lead, Copper. -Other chemicals in cigarettes (and examples of what each is used for/comes from): Acetone: Nail Polish Remover Acetic Acid: Vinegar Ammonia : Floor / Toilet Cleaner Arsenic : Poison Benzene : Makes Dyes and Plastics Butane : Lighter Fluid Cadmium : NiCad Batteries Carbon Monoxide : Car Exhaust Fumes Cyanide : Metabolic poison Cloroform : Anasthetic DDT/Dieldrin : Insecticides Ethanol : Alcohol Formaldehyde : Preserver - Body, Tissue and Fabric Hexamine: Barbecue Lighter Methane : Swamp Gas Methanol : Rocket Fuel Napthalene : Mothballs Nicotine : Insecticide, Stimulant, Addictive Drug Nitrobenzene : Gasoline Additive Nitrous Oxide Phenols : Disinfectant Stearic Acid : CandleWax Toluene : Industrial Solvent Vinyl Chloride : Makes PVC 10 Reasons Not To Smoke 1. Smoking under age 18 is illegal. Using, holding, or buying of cigarettes can get you in serious trouble, especially around school. In regards to school, you can be suspended, or even expelled! 2. Smoking reduces your ability to do things that require endurance, such as sports, etc. The tar in the cigarettes covers up alveoli, which help you breathe, which makes for less surface area for gas exchange. In other words, you must breathe more to get the same amount of oxygen as if you didn't smoke. So the effect that has on sports is that you will get tired quicker due to a lack of oxygen, which inevitably reduces your endurance. 3. Smoking can seriously harm your body in ways of cancer, emphysema, etc. Also, it leads to your early demise. 4. Smoking is a repulsive habit, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. 5. Smoking makes you and your enviornment stink. Your room stinks, your house stinks, your clothes stink, and, if you have one, your car stinks. 6. The nicotine in cigarettes are extremely addictive, and, chances are that if you start early, then it'll be harder to quit the habit. 7. Smoking may cause tension between friend and family relationships. If anyone gets upset that you smoke, then you'd probably get angry and fight with that person, defending why you smoke. 8. It is also a very costly habit. You may lose all your money before you know it. For example, let's say that you smoke one pack of cigarettes per day, and the price is $5.00 per pack. Then every month you'd spend approximately $150.00 on cigarettes alone! That money could definitely be put to better use, such as to pay bills, or simply to go to the movies with someone once a week. 9. Why pay extra money to the government? With the high taxation of cigarettes, you're basically donating your money to the them. Approximately half of the price on a pack of cigarettes is tax! 10. Contrary to what you might hear in songs or see on TV or in the movies, smoking cigarettes DOES NOT MAKE YOU LOOK COOL! Statistics About Smoking The average age that a child first tries tobacco is 11.Almost 90 percent of adult smokers began at or before the age of 18.In grades 9-12, 18% of boys and 14% of girls are frequent smokers in New York.In New York, 32% of high school students smoke.87,000 kids under 18 become daily smokers each year.Recent research has revealed that smoking tobacco as a teenager does greater damage to the lungs because they are still developing. On average, 6.6 billion dollars are spent on health care for tobacco use per year.30,700 teenagers die each year in New York from smoking.Smoking kills more than AIDS, alcohol, car crashes, illegal drugs, murders, and suicides combined. Effects on Smoking Cigarettes Due to tobacco use, work performance and productivity annually decreases, resulting in early termination from your job. For example, when you start working at a job, and you don't smoke, you do fine. But when you start smoking, then each year, you get slower and slower at your job due to a lack of oxygen because of the alveoli being covered with tar.Nicotine in cigarettes causes a great addiction to them. There are also many health hazards related to smoking of which we shall now explain Health Hazards Effects on the Respiratory System As you know, smoking cigarettes literally destroys your lungs. This destruction is caused by conditions such as smoker's cough, emphysema, and lung cancer.Smoker's Cough - a condition where the ammonia in cigarettes paralyzes the cilia in the trachea, causing tar, phlegm, etc. to slide to the bottom of the lungs. This creates a dry, hacking cough.Emphysema - a condition where the tar in cigarettes coates the lungs' alveoli turning them black. As a result, the alveoli lose their elasticity and eventually explode (this damage is irreversible).Lung Cancer - a cancer caused by the carcinogens in tar, this condition may be deadly. This is the number 1 cancer killer in the United States. This makes smoking the most preventable cause of death in the United States! Effects on the Circulatory System The nicotine in cigarettes stimulates the heart and constricts the body's blood vessels. This results in high blood pressure and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, blood clots, and fatty deposits. Effects on Pregnancy For further information on the potential effects on an unborn child from a mother smoking during pregnancy, please go to either Second Hand Smoke in Pregnancy or Health Effects on the Unborn Baby. Addictive Potential Smoking causes compulsive, often uncontrollable cravings. This is caused by the nicotine in the cigarette. When one tries to quit smoking, he or she will exhibit withdrawl symptoms, which is a reaction to your craving for nicotine. These symptoms include shaking, a cold sweat, and sometimes paranoia. How Do You Quit? 1. Do not carry cigarettes. 2. Quit smoking one day at a time. Do not concern yourself with next year, next month, next week or even tomorrow. Concentrate on not smoking from the time you wake up until you go to sleep. 3. Work on developing the attitude that you are doing yourself a favor by not smoking. Do not dwell on the idea that you are depriving yourself of a cigarette. You are ridding yourself full fledged smoking because you care enough about yourself to want to. 4. Be proud that you are not smoking. 5. Be aware that many routine situations will trigger the urge for a cigarette. Situations which will trigger a response include: drinking coffee, alcohol, sitting in a bar, social events with smoking friends, card games, the end of meals. Try to maintain your normal routine while quitting. If any event seems to tough, leave it and go back to it later. Do not feel you must give up any activity forever. Everything you did as a smoker, you will learn to do at least as well, and maybe better, as an ex-smoker. 6. Make a list of all the reasons you want to quit smoking. Keep this list with you, preferably where you used to carry your cigarettes. When you find yourself reaching for a cigarette, take out your list and read it. 7. Drink plenty of fruit juice the first three days. It will help flush nicotine out of your system. 8. To help avoid weight gain, eat vegetables and fruit instead of candies and pastries. Celery and carrots can be used safely as short-term substitutes for cigarettes. 9. If you are concerned about weight gain, do some moderate form of regular exercise. If you have not been exercising regularly, consult your physician for a practical exercise program which is safe for you. 10. If you encounter a crisis, (e.g. a flat tire, flood, blizzard, family illness) while quitting, remember, smoking is no solution. Smoking will just complicate the original situation while creating another crisis, a relapse into the nicotine addiction. 11. Consider yourself a "smoke-a-holic." One puff and you can become hooked again. No matter how long you have been off, don’t think you can safely take a puff! 12. Don’t debate with yourself how much you want a cigarette. Ask yourself how do you feel about going back to your old level of consumption. 13. Save the money you usually spend on cigarettes and buy yourself something you really want after a week or a month. Save for a year and you can treat yourself to a vacation. 14. Practice deep breathing exercises when you have a craving. 15. Go places where you normally can’t smoke, such as movies, libraries and no smoking sections of restaurants. 16. Tell people around you that you have quit smoking. 17. Remember that there are only two good reasons to take a puff once you quit. You decide you want to go back to your old level of consumption until smoking cripples and then kills you, or, you decide you really enjoy withdrawal and you want to make it last forever. As long as neither of these options appeal to you-never take another puff! Reasons Not To Smoke Here are some facts and some information on the dangers and hazards of smoking. I would have to say that smoking is the most worse thing to see, smell, and a big turn off ;/, I don't see why people would even want to do it, doesn't make them look and be any cooler, all it really does is help you for the moment but kills you even faster for a small price of a tiny bit of joy that you always want and cant get rid off. Also it affects the people that you are smoking around and that knows that you smoke and want you to stop. It just plain old horrible and no sexy at all. |
