I don't follow football meticulously... my knowledge is that of maybe a casual fan at best. I know of a few players and something about teams... but nothing in-depth to have any real confidence in predictions... but I still have opinions. :x

I'd have a lot more to say about baseball though since that sport interests me a lot more.

My god the 49ers are killing the Bears. Kappy looks like the real deal against this Bears D. Forget Alex Smith; Kappy is the future of the 49ers. (Might be overreacting).

Well, with Thanksgiving right around the corner, we now have (gasp) FREE NFL THURSDAY GAMES!  I can't wait to see the Texans play Detroit.  It seems like it will be a good game.

mlb789 : Yes, to see Thursday game is going to be good, especially since it's the Lions. I sure hope they can win. There chances are almost zero, but if they win that game, the Detroit fans are going to be crazy, saying that they have a chance of the postseason. Still don't think that they will make it, but it would be nice to see them win.

Also, the Patriots TE Gronkoski is going to be out for the rest of the regular season, and hopes to be back for the playoffs. That will be a big blow to that team's offense. Isn't he leading the team in receptions this year?

So in case anyone wants to know what Thanksgiving games are on its...

Texans vs Lions: I think a good number of people will pick the Texans

Redskins vs Cowboys: Cowboys will have the advantage at least to me, but I think its a toss up game.

Jets vs Patriots: Everybody is picking the Pats.

Oldschool41 : Hmm well the Cowboys haven't played that great at home in the new stadium and really haven't done much to be counted on this year. So I wouldn't really count on them.

Texans in a shootout.

Patriots.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Jordanv78 : Yeah, but its still a toss-up since the Redskins secondary hasn't been great. Will be the only good game to watch (sucks that I'll miss it)

megamanmaniac :   Dude...
Mark Sanchez is their QB, and Tebow is their backup.
Good luck getting far at all with those two options at QB.

So, how about that call in the Lions-Texans game where the runner's kneww touched the ground?

mlb789 : I didn't see his knee touch the ground so I thought it was a fair touchdown. But the fans...that's a different story. That was a fun game, especially that OT. I mean that game should've gone to Detroit but they blew it...a few times actually. The Texans blew opportunities as well but they walked out with the W so good for them.

And the Lions Thanksgiving Curse continues to strike!!

And Thank you Washington for silencing those Cowboy fans for a while. Looking like a 3 team race for the NFC East division.

My God the Jets suck.

So the Eagles released defense end Jason Babin. Maybe this is my ignorance showing but it sounds like a stupid move to me, struggling or not. Didn't the guy lead the team in sacks last year or something? Wouldn't it have been smarter to see if you could trade him during the off-season to try and get something out of him? If you wanted to get younger, you could at least trade for picks... I can't really see what benefits releasing the guy would afford the team at this point in the year.

Crazy Li : It does seem weird that they released him but that happens a lot in the NFL. Trades rarely happen that involve players from Draft pics unless the player is really good. Usually offensive players.

I'm in a league were I have to pick the games, straight up, every week. So far this week I'm 13-2 .  I had the Chiefs, Steelers, Seahawks, Bills and Browns all winning. The only games I've gotten wrong so far are the Colts beating the Lions...which was won as time expired, and the rams beating the 49ers, which really seemed like an obvious pick that went wrong in OT. So close to being undefeated this week.

On a side note, my Patriots wrapped up the AFC East this week. They have a really big game against the Texans next week, which they have to win if they want any chance at the number 1 seed.

Speaking of the Niners game... does anyone think it was a bad decision to start Kaepernick this week? Sure, he did a good job winning his first two official starts... but let's not forget the last time he faced the Rams was when Smith got hurt and he failed to lead the team to a victory, instead faltering on a comeback drive where they had to settle for a FG to send it to OT and then failing to score in OT. This time, he makes a bad mistake that results into a safety that really shifted the momentum of the game and lead to another OT situation... just this time the Rams didn't botch the game-winning score.

Everyone I talk to says that Smith is officially done as the Niners starter. Despite their coach saying he's still their starter, nobody buys it. They say it's obvious that the 49ers want to go with the younger, better QB and Smith hasn't been successful in some 8 years playing for the team.

Now I'm not sure that's totally fair. In those 8 years, he's gone through several different head coaches and coordinators and the team around him keeps changing, not really giving him an offense he can get used to and comfortable with. Despite that, the 49ers came outta nowhere last year and had a strong regular season. Most people thought the Saints would be the end of that because "Alex Smith can't beat Drew Brees in a shootout" except... that's exactly what he ended up doing. No, he didn't make it to a Super Bowl, much less win one for SF... but to be fair, it wasn't really his fault that they lost the playoff game to NY. He did enough to make it possible for them to win. Kyle Williams basically threw the game away twice of special teams.

I think Smith has actually been given the opportunity to succeed for the first real time in his career but that injury will probably take that away now. The whole world wants to see another Tom Brady story rise up here from Kaepernick. If the Niners go with what most people seem to expect them to, Alex Smith will never start another game in a Niners uniform for the rest of his life.

Crazy Li : No you should keep starting Kaepernick. He has done nothing to show the coaches he SHOULDN'T start. I know guys don't normally lose their jobs to injury, but in this case he should. The offense has looked much more dangerous/explosive (minus yesterdays game) than they ever did with smith in there. Smith is having a fine season, sure but he's basically a "game manager" you know what you are going to get with him. With kaepernick the ceiling is much higher. He already has basically as many completions over 20 yards as Smith in like 200 less attempts. Also he is a much better athlete than Smith that can break plays with his legs repeatedly. He had one game where he wasn't blowing the doors off of a division opponent and you already want to bench him? After great games against the Bears and the Saints? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Smith has had plenty of chances to succeed and really hasn't. Sure you can give him credit for having to change coaches and things like that, but the truth is he doesn't make game changing plays on a regular basis like a good QB should. He's a serviceable game manager (Think Trent Dilfer) and nothing else. 8 years is MORE than enough time in the NFL to show what you have got. He's had 1 and a half decent years out of 8. Not good enough stats to keep Kaepernick on the bench.

Let's face it, the main reason why the 49ers lost yesterday was because the Rams stopped the run. Gore had like 55 yards rushing.
The rams have been playing them tough over the past 3 years. The Niners are 3-2-1 against them since the 2010 season despite the fact that the Rams haven't been that good. So it's not like Smith was blowing them out of the water either.

I think at this point there is no reason to go back to Smith unless Kaepernick has a bad game next week.

Crazy Li : I agree with Jordanv. Lets face it, the Rams have had the 49ers number this season. I will admit that Kappy shouldn't have tossed the ball for the option play that resulted in the touchdown, but then again it looked like he was going to have a loss on the play anyways.

But in the end, the 49ers are still 1 and 1/2 games up on Seattle (who beat my Bears at home ). Now depending on the outcome of the 49ers vs Seahawks game at Seattle (who is tough at to beat at home). Seattle would have to win another game and the 49ers lose another game for the Seahawks to get the division, but the 49ers would still make the playoffs (at least I think they will, still early to call).

Seattle's Remaining schedule: vs Arizona, @ Buffalo, vs SF, vs Rams.

49ers Remaining schedule: vs Miami, @ Pats, @ Seattle, vs Arizona.

Now I can easily project that both teams will beat the Cardinals so lets get that out.

Now lets assume in this "simulation" that Seattle does win against the 49ers. Then that would leave...

Seattle: Buffalo, Rams

49ers: Miami, Pats

So I would say that the 49ers would HAVE to win at the Patriots since I can't see Seattle losing to either of those 2 teams (maybe Buffalo since its away). Plus the Miami Dolphins can't be overlooked as they are still in the mix for the AFC Wildcard spot (they won't get it thou.)
