I see where you are coming from, but this is a problem. I am not complaining or anything, But I should have had the first two jerseys today. The yellow and blue. I looked. Sept grabbed yellow from me with less than 5 minutes to go, and pac did about 5 posts in 3 minutes, nearly impossible unless you are using multiple tabs. I just think there should be a system set in place. I was dq'ed two days ago for blue for getting most of posts in crazy house... I think the same should apply when you are obliviously waiting until the VERY LAST second to make a move. Now, do not get me wrong. I can see the logic in the strategy, sure. Would I use the strategy? No... unless I was working on something all day, and then just finished it and posted it then. Then that would be different. But if you deliberately save something, and then use it two days later, for example, then that is definitely cheating. Which in my book, makes you a coward. 

Therefore, I am making a suggestion for a change for the next Tour De Vizzed: Instead of it being for the whole twenty-four hours, it should be split up in to six hour periods. The winner for each jersey in each period gets a full point, 2nd gets 0.8, and son on, all the way down to 5th getting 0.2 points for that six hour period. Then... at the end of each day... All four six hour periods will be combined together, and then done like it is now, for the 5th full point. You would then add all the points together, and the top five would keep their points. Everybody else that got 6th place and below gets nothing. 

I feel like this new method would not only cut down on cheating, but also make the competition A LOT more interesting. But then again... this is just an idea that could possibly be used. I would personally like to see how it would play out. Maybe you could test it in next months VCS? 

Oh, and do please comment on this idea. I want to know if other users who see this think this is a good idea, a bad idea, or are impartial to it. 

thing1 : That's actually an interesting idea. 6 hour periods for the day, get one point, and at the end of the day, collect the total results for who gets full points. I can see that working out.

thing1 : I had an idea similar to yours that I called a "midnight penalty" but a few people turned down the idea. Not sure if you saw it when I posted it but here it is:

"For the Green Jersey, the closer it is to midnight, the less points you can earn toward it. So lets say someone gets it an hour before midnight, 4 points would be deducted from their total. 2 hours would be 3 points, 3 hours would be 2 points and 4 hours would be 1 point. Or we could base it off of percent. 1 hour before midnight and your total points would be decreased by 40%, 2 hours before midnight would be 30%, 3 hours before midnight would be 20%, and 4 hours before midnight would be 10%.

For the Red Jersey, it'd be a similar concept. 1 hour before midnight would be 1000 words or 40%, 2 hours before midnight would be 750 words or 30%, 3 hours before midnight would be 500 words or 20%, and 4 hours before midnight would be 250 words or 10%.

Just some possibilities to reduce the sort of stuff septembern does since it's not technically against the rules but makes it a little less fun for everyone else, especially those who can't be on at that time. "


My other idea was that posts have to be 30 seconds apart and you can't submit more than 15 posts in a 15 minute period. So if you make a post, you gotta wait 30 seconds before making another. If you made 15 posts within 10 minutes, you'd have to wait 5 more minutes to make a post. I think that's pretty fair though because a honest poster isn't going to be doing more than a post per 30 seconds because it requires at least 30 seconds to read what you're replying to and another 30 or more seconds to type up your post and proof read it.

Davideo7 : I think that it would really be a good idea to check out at least the first half of my post that was in the Dev Forum: LOL! I guess it can be a little unfair to easily win every day in number of points. I have a few ideas myself, so I'll just go through a few things:

About the closer to midnight penalty: I see what you are trying to limit, but there is one crucial problem with this. There have been several nights where school, extracurricular activities and the like have prevented me from getting on until 7 PM. What this rule would do for me and all others who are not able to play during the day due to work, etc. is that they would be really limited to one hour of true posting before being penalized. So this is really what is happening, the people who are able to get on all day, win. The kids who just are able to get on after school to whatever their bed time is don't really have a change besides just stop posting on Vizzed a little earlier, so a small negative as activity is being inhibited. For the people like me who have full time things to do throughout the day, we have nearly no chance of being able to win a VCS, so a pretty bad negative.

My solution: Make it so that 11:30 is the capping time where people start being cut off. Every 10 minutes the red jersey will count 25% less of the words. That way it is a little bit more fair. In compensation, the red jersey will count 10% more words from 12:00 - 12:10. 7% more words from 12:10-12:20, and 5% from 12:20-12:30. This would have no effect whatsoever on the yellow jersey. Words are words no matter when they are. It just would be a complete waste to have a post at the very end of the day, solving the exploiting of red AND yellow

For the green: I really think that it would be a bad idea to penalize the time in between posts... for me, I can just be normally posting at a 30+ per minute, and seeing already that on somedays I might be more time pressed than others, I think that I am able to do two to three 30+ per minute if I know where to post.

I put that the solution to the green jersey was to get rid of it. I also put two different suggestions for changing it that would actually reflect a user's posting ability rather than be random... I don't think that a TdV jersey should be won out of randomness.

I really think that you should get it out, because even though it requires some math, that is not TOO much coding... in fact it would require a one to two line equation and nearly all the variables are already created for it, so I don't see it being that much of a problem considering that the next one is three months away.

I'm just going to point out it's not entirely fair to people like me who can't get on the internet before 8 PM.

It effectively limits my posting time to a couple hours, and prevents people like me from trying to be competitive.

That's all I will say on the matter.
