Save File Recovery
After the recent RGR Plugin update, we made it so save files are stored on your computer rather than on the server (to reduce server strain, disk space and bandwidth). For those who may have lost a save file recently because of that or for another reason, you can still recover your old save files (note that any save files created after the date of this post will not be recoverable from the save file manager). Here's how:

1. Go to the save file manager page:

2. Find the save files you want to recover and click the link to download it.

3. On your computer, go to Start Menu > All Programs > Vizzed Retro Game Room > Open Plugin Data Folder.

4. You'll want to place your downloaded save file into the folder that the RGR Plugin loads the save files from; here's where to place them for each system:
N64 using 1964: 1964 > Save
NES & FDS: FCEUX > sav
GBA & GBC & GB: VBA > Saves
Genesis & 32X: Gens > Saves
SNES: ZSNES > Saves
TG & AL & NGP & NGPC & WS & WSC & SGFX: Mednafen > sav

5. Make sure to keep the original save file name, don't rename it. If there's a save file already in there with the same name, you'll have to replace but make sure that the save file you're replacing it with is your most recent save file.



Additional N64 Plugins
You can now choose which video plugin to play your N64 games with. Some games play better depending on which N64 emulator it's being played in (1964 or Mupen64Plus) or depending on which video plugin you play it with. Different computers and video cards also makes a difference so in some cases, you'll want to play around with it.

To play a certain game with a different video plugin, go to play an N64 game using one of the N64 emulators. On the play window, at the very top right you'll see links, clicking them will reload the game using the selected video plugin. Eventually I'll have the RGR staff go through and figure out which game plays best with which n64 emulator and video plugin.

Just a bit of confusion here. So for new files, the data will be stored on our computer. But for a save file from a while ago, do i have to download that from the link in order for my game to appear on the site since the files are no longer hosted on the site? If so, is the save file manager going to be deleted eventually as well/is there a time limit to download those files from the link you provided? I think that's all the questions I have. Thanks for these updates! Working N64 games for all should bring in a lot of traffic! 

ok david what new plugins did you add ?

So I am using safari on a Mac. When I go to the new save file page there is only text with the instructions on how to get your save file. There is no link connected to "Your Save RGR Plugin Save Files" or saved files to retrieve.  Needless to say I cannot find or use my save file from here.  is it due to using safari/ Mac or a problem on vizzed's end? Thanks in advance.

angrycape : I think the save file manager only works with Firefox, that could be why it's mot showing up.

Davideo7 : I followed everything you said and it works thanks a lot! But i have a problem. When i tried to fix my Fire Emblem - Fuuin no Tsurugi (English translation) I found many files and copies of the game and didn't know which to pick. I tired them all but they weren't the right ones. After I found out that my progress was gone i started a new play through and got  up to ch 5 but  when i tried to fix it so it could go back to my old play through  (which was in ch12)  it went to ch5 of my last play through, and when i tried to fix that, all the progress was deleted and i was back in the beginning. This didn't happen to all my other games.I don't know what to do Please help me.

danielbelitch : After last week, all save files store to your computer only. Before that, save files stored on both the server and your computer. The only reason you'd have to do this is if you lost a save file or if you're using a different computer than you were before. The save files on the server will probably be available for at least a month.

angrycape : The plugin doesn't work for a Mac anyway so this doesn't apply to you.

Is there a way to change the controls on the Mugen64 emulator? The menu just won't pop up.

Cerebreus : Nope, Mupen64Plus is the only emulator within the plugin that doesn't support custom controls.

And sadly, the only one I can play games like Shadowman on. Rats!

Davideo7 : So just to clarify, if a save file was not lost, there's no reason to download it, right? Thanks again!

It hasn't gotten my Pokémon ash's quest save yet or my Pokémon ruby destiny
only the games I played long ago.....

 I've tried what you said: I opened the page, I clicked the links (I'm using Google Chrome so a pop up came with the links) I've putted them into VBA saves but it doesn't work? Also, there must have something I've done wrong because the main links became adobe reader files (back-up files are still normal) please help!

Are the Java saves still saved on the server? Or do those save on your PC as well?

tRIUNE : Java saves still save to the server and actually they don't save to the vizzed.com server, they save to the vizzed.co server.

Glad that I finally have access to my save files again, but for some reason when I play games that are VBA files now the sound is weird and I only get this like percussion thing, no other sound coming through. I only noticed this after I had gotten my save files today.

When I click "Open plugin data folder" a little error box pops up and says "the feature you are trying to use is unavailable." It then allows me to try and find the file that it cannot find itself, named "VizzedRgrPlugin-v1.63.msi". I am not sure where this file is; could you direct me to it?

Flists : Here's what you'll do, when you downloaded the Plugin installer, it saved to a folder on your PC, so on the bottom of that box that is giving that message there's a bar for entering the path that goes to the folder which the Plugin installer is saved in.

For example, for my PC the path was

C:Documents and Settings"my windows account name"My DocumentsDownloads

once you've entered the correct path, click OK. Then it's going to configure something (I don't know since I didn't write the code) and it will ask you to restart your system for the configuration changes to take effect. After restarting you will be able to open the Plugin Data Folder.

IDOJ : Summoning you here since you're having the same problem in another thread.

tRIUNE : If I deleted the plugin installer ( I wipe my downloads folder every now and then) will I need to reinstall in order to be able to continue here, or is there something else I can do to fix this?

Flists : I do that too, you will have to redownload the installer - it's not going to affect your data.

Davideo7 : Is it possible for you to record a video tutorial for the save file recovery?

Some people say they just cannot recover their saves even after reading this and my previous post before the last here. I would do it, however, I don't have any recording software installed; perhaps someone else on staff would be willing if you don't have time soon.

tRIUNE : I could do a video tutorial but it'd be a few weeks, really busy especially with a server transfer taking place.

I entered the location of the VizzedRGR, which was stored C:/Documents and Settings/"Windows account name/Desktop It didn't work, so I uninstalled VizzedRGR, and re-uploaded it. An error occurred after the upload was complete, but not before I closed the dialog box which stated that the upload was complete. I closed my browser (IE) and reopened it. I've tried to play an NES game and a Genesis game since. Both times, the game window opened, but the games didn't load. Should I uninstall it and reinstall it again, due to the error message, or is there some other problem?

Any additional help appreciated.

IDOJ : I think the problem with that is that the desktop isn't a 'folder', do you have a default path to save downloads to?

All right... I'm a technology invalid, and, apparently, the last person still having trouble saving game files.

I uninstalled and re-installed the new RGR Plugin. I did, then (Wednesday, maybe) find the save areas I've read about... for example, a folder titled Saves, to which Sega Genesis games can be saved.

Today, I can't find that folder. I searched my hard drive. The following are the results:

When I did uninstall & re-install the plugin on Wednesday, I couldn't get any of the games to load. Today the game I wanted to play loaded normally, so obviously, the plugin reinstallation worked, or the game loading would have stopped at the message, You must download the latest version of the VizzedRGR plugin.

Seriously. It's frustrating. Anything step by step to explain what I'm missing, appreciated.

IDOJ : In other words, right-click on the installer if it's on your desktop, I'm assuming there will then be an option for 'Send to', then send it to 'Documents'.

And then renter the path on that message, and it should save the configurations if my theory is right - because the desktop isn't really a directory.

Sorry if that wasn't 5-year-old-ish, lol I can't really explain it otherwise.

I deleted VizzedRGR from my desktop earlier this week, when I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest plugin.

I don't know what you mean by (right-click on the) installer. I understand the installer to be when I click, on a Vizzed page, on the option to download the latest plugin version. Other than that, the only thing on my computer that I can think might be the installer is the Open Plugin Data Folder in C:/Programs, which I've been unable to successfully run for needing an alternate path. I right-clicked on it, Sent it to My Documents, copied the location (C/Program Files/ Vizzed/Vizzed Retro Game Room/), which is the same location as the Open Plugin Data Folder. I pasted it in the box for Alternate Path. It didn't work.

Also, the Open Plugin Data Folder is, apparently, a shortcut and not a program file. When I clicked on "Properties" for the Open Plugin Data Folder icon, and clicked the  "General" tab at the top of the properties dialog box,  the location was listed as C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsVizzed Retro Game Room. I pasted this into the alternate path box. It didn't work. 

Shouldn't I be able to find, on my hard drive, the VizzedRGRplugin v.1.63? It has to be there, or I wouldn't be able to play games, right?

Should I uninstall and reinstall the new plugin again?

Does that work? Are you on Windows XP, Vista, or 7?

I have Windows XP.

I have used the path you're suggesting, and it didn't work.

I re-searched my hard drive, including Hidden Files, whatever they are and why ever it is that they're hidden. The results included more than a dozen Vizzed-related files, but I haven't gone through them to check their properties for locations.

Right now, I'm using Google Chrome. Normally, I use IE, version 9, I think, to play Vizzed games. I'm not sure if this matters.

I'll have to put together a list of the Hidden files I found, and try their locations as alternate paths.

Again... Should I delete all of the Vizzed files from my computer, and then re-install the new plugin? Maybe that way my computer would only have the most recent, necessary files, including however it is that saved states work now.

IDOJ : I've recently discovered that when the plugin installer is deleted from your pc, the Plugin Data Folder is no longer accessible.

If you're using win xp, that makes this a whole lot easier because I am as well; depending on which browser you're using, you'll be able to set where downloads are saved to through the options at the top of that browser.

For example, I'm using Firefox 11, if I go to Tools > Options, on the General Tab there's an option there for where my downloads are saved to - I have that set to "Downloads" folder.

So you'll have to redownload the installer I suppose and then enter the path

C:Documents and Settings"my windows account name"My DocumentsDownloads

as for my own problem with it not working because I deleted it from my downloads folder, I have no idea because I didn't write the code for this.

I did try what you suggested in my web browser Options tab, changing the location to which downloads will be stored on my computer when I download them, but I'm back to being unable to uninstall VizzedRGR. The dialog box telling me that I need an alternate path pops up when I try to uninstall.
I did another hard drive search, and found this address: C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/NAME%20NAME/Local%20Settings/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/Content.IE5/936ZSUKW/vizzed_com[1].
h. It didn't work as an alternate path. 

I'm guessing I'll have to wait for an instructional youtube video, if you're going to eventually make one. 

None of this makes any sense. The fact that I was able to download the new plugin, and play games using it, suggests to me that it must be on my computer somewhere, probably in the location that I'm unable to use as a "path," even though that's where the file is on my computer.

Any other suggestions?

I play Pokémon flora sky and beat the champion, in the challenge forest and f2 save it said unsupported visual boy advance save game version 0 and I can't reload. I also try the save file manager and they don't have the game in there. How to get the save game back?

I ran a search including hidden files, and deleted every vizzed file from my computer. Still, and it doesn't show up in any search, VizzedRGR appears in the list of programs I that I can add or remove.

There isn't a version of it in my C:/Program Files/

When I try to remove it, from the add/remove programs list, I get the following message: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to be complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

More information from the add/remove list suggested I contact the program's vendor. 

I can't play games on vizzed now, and can't remove this file from my computer. I'm going to try to re-install the new plugin, again.

Any ideas?

IDOJ : I'd say try and reinstall it and see if it gives that message about a network resource being unavailable. If it does, my theory is that the installer will have to be in the same directory it was originally downloaded to. That will probably be a problem; you can try 2 things to uninstall it so it may be reinstalled.

1) The simplest way is to have a program uninstall it for you. I'd recommend you try CCleaner for this. It can be downloaded here:

and you'll use the Uninstaller as seen here (by selecting the program and clicking Run Uninstaller)



If that fails (which I don't see why it would), you'll have to manually delete it from your registry.

You can easily access the Registry Editor by typing regedit in the Start Menu’s 'Run...' for Windows XP.

In the Edit drop-down, click Find. On the box that pops up it will say 'Look at' with 3 check-boxes, those should all be checked, then type vizzedrgr and click Find Next. For every Key, Value and Data that it finds matching vizzedrgr there will be 'Name', 'Type' and 'Data' on the right side of the Editor. If it says vizzedrgr under 'Data', right-click and delete it. Then click Find Next again and repeat the process until all have been deleted.

Be careful though not to delete anything that doesn't have vizzedrgr under 'Data'.

IDOJ : You should probably check Windows Updates to see if your Windows Installer is up to date as well.

IDOJ : That's a simple task - go to Start Menu > All Programs and there should be Windows Update listed towards the top of the list. If not here's the url:

It only works with Internet Explorer which you'll see if you try to go to that link while using another browser.

You'll want to click the Express Install.

I have a question ,after I get to the save file site and click on the download link , this message shows up:The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@vizzed.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. Any suggestions ?

I'm having the same problem with the "Open Plugin Data Folder" being an application instead of an actual folder. Each time I click on it, begins "configuring Vizzed Retro Game Room." I ignored it for a while and focused on the Save File Manager, but I had no games under the "Your saved RGR games" title. This isn't so much a problem with the NES and Sega games, because I can still load them later on. But when I save my N64 games properly (not pressing the F2 button, but saving in-game), they never load. I always have to start a new game.

 Long story short, I'd very much like to know where my game files are being saved I can't "delete, modify, or add" them because I don't even know where they're located. Please help.

Davideo7 : I don't wish to bother much, but...
I've been facing  a problem with a save file from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance lately. I saved the game properly, yet when I went to play it again the next day, the save file wasn't there. The option to load was greyed out.
I then downloaded Firefox, clicked the link to recover lost files, and saw none there.
Do you know what problem it might be? Do you recommend me to play and save the game again?

FleetingMoogle : The save file wouldn't be in the save file manager if it was saved recently, you'll want to check your Plugin Data Folder for saves - which won't help if the Load option is greyed out. I'd recommend you also make save states with F2 in case this happens again.

FleetingMoogle : I think I responded to you in another thread, but if not here it goes.

When you use the save feature that's built into that particular game, when you come back to the game, your save file will not be stored on the rom.

In order to make sure that your game is always saved, use the emulators "Save State" feature. This allows you to save at any point in the game. You just have to push the F2 key. You can use this to save at a really difficult part so you can retry many times, or just save when you are done playing the game and want to continue from that point at a later date.

Davideo7 : There is something wrong with my computer and the internet browser crashes when I download anything (including new browsers) and all I have at this point is safari.  I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that my save files are unattainable to me due to the fact it doesn't work with safari and I can't get another browser.  Any ideas/ help? Ok ,so I partially resolved the problem...I only got my GBA save games back,but no N64 or SNES game saves unfortunately 

So my emulator hasn't loaded yet (grey screen still) and I think it is because I am still using version 1.01, how do I update again?
