An iBOCK3 Review

DARK CLOUD

Playstation 2 in 2001/2002 was very young. And, with this new console, there were so many fresh ideas put into play by developers. There were so many new opportunities for this console to push the limit and amaze consumers. And, one final product of such an era is
DARK CLOUD, a game developed by LEVEL-5.

Even though this game is really old, I still felt like I should review it.

CHARACTERS

You start off in a pretty big town (in comparison to other RPGs), with a character named Toan (or whatever you want to name him). His hometown isn't destroyed, it is merely sealed into GEORAMA orbs. His mission is to collect all the GEORAMA orbs to bring his town back together, almost like an intricate lego set.

Other characters include Xiao, Goro, Ruby, Ungaga, and Shida.

GAME PLAY

Photobucket One of the game's main focuses is the collection of GEORAMA orbs which hold pieces to towns, such as rivers, houses, risen chunks of earth, and roads. These orbs are collected through going into dungeons and finding them with TOAN's unique ability provided by the Fairy King.

This game makes dungeon crawling fun and non-repetitive, as every several floors there will be a duel, or a limited zone that requires you to use strategy. The characters have their own unique talents which will be used to progress through these dungeons.

GRAPHICS

PhotobucketBack in the first days of the PS2, these graphics were stunning. However, time has indeed tested and defeated these graphics. They are still great, but they are now just considered Playstation 2's standard graphics quality.

The cinematic scenes are still really pretty, and plentiful throughout the game. It's a great departure to see the cinematic scenes sprinkled throughout the game while running through dungeons.

So no, this game does not get any special awards for graphics.

CONTENT

PhotobucketThere's a lot to do in this game; there's bonus content all over the place, back rooms of dungeon floors, and many bonus treasure chests to open that contain rare items.

Customizing the towns is my favorite part, personally; they're like giant bonsai trees: I cut out pieces I don't want and shape everything to my liking. I especially love the items that are scattered in the buildings you acquire through GEORAMA orbs.

Photobucket"Hello! I have a turban! [ insert intensely racist 7-11 joke here ] would you like a slurpee?"

Photobucket"OH MY GOD! TOAN, WHAT DID YOU PUT IN MY FOOD?! I HAVE BOOBS NOW!"

Here's the rating!

Summary: If you have $8, and a long rainy weekend (or week), this game will be a fun time-killer. There's a lot of content for such a low price. If you have any extra cash laying around besides the $8, you might wanna order the strategy guide by phone, it'll help you find all the hidden bonuses in the game!
