Recently someone asked how to break and ISO into multiple parts (Like the ones found on the PS1 page here are Get-Your-Rom.com) So I've decided to post a short how-to guide so that anyone who wants can share their favorite ISO's.

Ok for this you will need two things:
1. An ISO (OR any format Image file)
2.WinRAR installed onto your computer

Step 1: Right Click the Image File (ISO) and select "Add to Archive" A new Window should appear. This window is know as the "Archive name and parameters" window.

Step 2: At of top of this window, under the "General" tab there is a name for the Archive. Enter the name here or leave it as-is (It defaults to the file name +.rar)

Step 3: Under the "General" Tab in the bottom left of the window there is a "Split to volumes, bytes" parameter box.
This is where you enter the desired file size. You can choose from the preset ones or type your own. (You can simply type 50mb for 50 megabytes)

Step 4: Select "OK" WinRaR will now split the file into X many parts each of the size you requested.

Thats all, it's that simple.

Note: This can be done using the Trial Version of winRAR. So there is no need to buy anything to split a large file into smaller ones.

I would love to follow that guide, but I lack even the most basic of skills with computers. I downloaded a trial version of winrar, but when I try to use it, a window pops up to tell me it won't work because it is "not a valid Win32 application." I have no idea what that means. Does anyone know what I should do? I apologize for being such a computer-disabled newb.

I have Windows XP, and I down loaded WinRAR x64 (64 bit) 3.90 beta 1 off of http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm. Should I have gotten the WinRAR x86 (32 bit) 3.90 beta 1 instead?

well i say keep away from betas where ever possible because they are versions in testing, so may be buggy.
but yes, you would normally download x86 (32 bit) programs for Windows XP as the x64 version is for users with a special version of XP/Vista which it looks like you dont have
dont worry, the special version of XP/Vista is mostly for people with over 4gb of RAM.

i recommend you get WinRAR x86 (32 bit) 3.80. heres a direct link.

Thanks dark, the ISO came together correctly! Unfortunately the ISO I downloaded still isn't working with the ePSXe. It gets to the "SCEA Presents" screen, and stops. Maybe I should stick with my NES Emulator.

Hi,
Thanks for the info on breaking up the files. My question is how to reassemble them? Do I just kind of do the reverse on WinRar? It's been a long time, but whenever I have tried in the past, it simply overwrites the other files. What am I doing wrong? Please advise. Thanks.

The best way is to just right click the file and choose "extract to" or "extract here" from the WinRAR options.
Extract to folder is probally the best way as it makes a new folder and dumps the .rar contents in it.
You also might want to consider 7zip, we have a few files on GYR that are in that format and 7zip can extract 7z, rar and zip files.
