I have to say that I was very impressed when I started watching The Walking Dead series on AMC. I didn't know what to expect because it was a graphic novel series adapted to television, and we know how well that has worked out in the movies for quite a few. But this show is done very well. I don't know if there are other fans of the show (or even a fan of the graphic novel), but I'm making this thread for people to discuss whatever they want about the show here. Topics are pretty open ended. You can compare it to the graphic novel, talk about behind the scenes stuff, things that have already happened on the show, or about what you think is going to happen in upcoming episodes. As long as it is related to The Walking Dead television series, type away!

I've been having a marathon of The Walking Dead.  Watched the first half of season one Sunday night, and watched the rest of season one and part of season two yesterday (it's after midnight here, so I'm considering it yesterday )

I haven't seen the graphic novels, so I don't know exactly how accurate it is, but the t.v. series is interesting to say the least.  Some of the content is a bit too disturbing and controversial (i.e. shooting a kid who has been turned into a 'walker' in the head), however, it is understandable seeing as the series is about a zombie apocalypse.

The makeup design is amazing.  A lot of detail goes into making the 'walker's come to life (and look so creepy).

I could go on but I'll leave it at that.  I need to get some sleep.

I wish i had seen more of the show because i need to catch up on the first season on how they all met each other and who died there. I started watching the second season and  there's  even more on AMC site that i haven't looked up yet.I always like how the people are acting like zombies are walkers on the show.

death_nation : If you have Netflix, the whole first season is on watch instant online, so you don't have to put it in queue or anything like that. If you don't Netflix, I suggest getting the free week trial and watch it. AMC's website might also have it. It won't take long to watch it. It is like 6 episodes. But they are important. Especially with what happened to Rick in the beginning and all. Also, a LOT of people died and it helps to know.

rcarter2 : The free trial actually lasts for a month, not a week. But yeah, it's definitely worth it.

I watched the whole first season on Netflix and enjoyed it. I never did read the graphic novel, but I heard there are significant differences. Which does make sense. If they just followed the graphic novel, then those who have read it would have almost no reason to even bother watching. A suspense show where you know what's going to happen isn't very exciting.

As for my opinion on the first season, I enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to watch the second one at some point. Either I'll wait until it's on Netflix, or I'll pay to see it on Amazon (it's like a couple dollars per episode something).

There were a few unrealistic twists involved, but overall I like the realism. It's what keeps drawing me in. The idea that they don't have some unrealistic technology or something to ward off zombies is nice. It makes it easier to emerse yourself in the story.

soxfan849 : It does stray a bit from the graphic novel, but not really until later in the series. It does it justice fairly well. The big stray they did was what they did on the mid-season finale of season 2 (episode: Pretty much dead already). That event was huge and made it to where the graphic novel fans can no longer really predict what is going to happen. But the reason they did it was to keep it interesting for the fans for the reason you said. It isn't exciting if it follows the novel to the T and you know what is going to happen. My question to you is what kind of unrealistic things are there in the show? Granted, zombies are physically impossible when you simple know how skeletal and smooth muscles work and what they require to move. But what part other than zombies are unrealistic?

rcarter2 : First let me warn other people that there will be spoilers in here.

But as for what I thought was pretty unrealistic, I'll give a few examples that kinda bothered me. But I can't really remember all of them, because it's been a while since I've watched it now.

Anyway, my first complaint is when what's his face goes into the city. He gets himself completely trapped and there happens to be a tank for him to crawl under and get inside. He also was grabbed at, but none of the zombies really seem to be trying to even bite him. Not a major complaint, but still very predictable.

Then there was the part where they rubbed themselves with dead zombie because it would make them smell like a zombie. They at least offered a fair enough explanation, and maybe they were following the graphic novel, but I would've liked to see them have to come up with a way to sneak around the zombies.

And the last one I can remember was the explosion at the end of the season. I severely doubt that you could be that close to an explosion like that and just get up and drive away like it was nothing.

So no major complaints on my part, just a few questionable situations. And asking for so much realism that there are no zombies would be insane. I mean realistic in terms of what could happen in a hypothetical situation, where the zombies are that hypothetical situation. Sort of an unrealistic situation where everything else is still bounded by realism.

soxfan849 : I get a few of those. The tank thing made sense to me because Atlanta was a temporary refuge, and there were military structures and things of the sort all over the place. So it would make sense that a tank would be there. The part where Rick was grabbed is a better example as you would assume they would try to eat him. My only explanation of that is that the walkers were more focused on the big meaty horse than Rick, but that is still a hypothetical unrealistic thing for them not to be more aggressive towards him. I kind of like the rubbing themselves with dead walker (kind of a redundant thing to say ). I get what you are saying about trying to figure a way around them. But the way they did it was far more dramatic and heart pounding. They were right there in the open to be seen by all of them, and they had no idea whether it would work or not. My teeth were clenched at that part . The explosion thing does make a lot of sense. Granted, the type of explosion was not due to explosives but by instantly heating the air so hot that the air basically caught on fire, the blast should have at least shattered the windows of the vehicles they were driving. But like you said, if it EXACTLY like real life, it wouldn't be as exciting. Real life is actually kind of boring

rcarter2 : Yeah, it wasn't just the tank. It was how he got away all together. But it was still exciting, which is why I'm willing to look past that a bit. It is a fantastic show.

death_nation : Maggie is a very recent character introduced about halfway through the second season. She is one of the daughters who lives on the farm that the group stumbled upon. Right now, there is a love interest between her and Glenn (the Asian guy in the group). As for when Shane killed Otis, it happened the  same night they were taken to the farm. Otis was hunting and shot a dear. He didn't know that Carl (Rick's son) was literally a few feet away from the deer. The bullet pierced the dear and Carl. So he volunteered to go with Shane to the school at night to get medical supplies for Carl's operation. Both Shane and Otis got hurt running from the walkers. Neither of them could run and they were being chased by over 100 walkers. So Shane used his last bullet to shoot Otis in the leg, take his backpack of medical supplies, and get to the truck while the walkers were distracted by tearing Otis apart. He didn't go crazy. He made a decision. If Carl didn't get those supplies, he would have died, so Shane decided to sacrifice Otis to do it.

EDIT: Or are you talking about last week's episode where he almost shot that boy/prisoner?

death_nation : Oh, so you are talking about last weeks episode. Well, here is the gist of that one. In the episode before that one, Hershal (the doctor who lives at the farm), Rick, and Glenn were shot at by a group of strangers in a nearby town. A large hoard of walkers were drawn to the gunfire, so they group of strangers drove out of the town. The teenage boy jumped off the roof of a building to get in the truck, but his leg got impaled by a fence. So his group left him. Rick and the others saved him, but there was the issue that he was a part of a group of people who open fired at them. That is why they took him 18 miles away from the farm. They figured he wouldn't be a threat if he didn't know where the farm was. When he said he knew Maggie, that meant he likely knew where she lived. So Shane's though process was that if he found his way back to his group of 30+ guys with guns, he would lead them right to the farm. So he decided to try to kill him because of that danger.

SPOILER!!! I BREAK DOWN EVERYTHING FROM THE MOST RECENT EPISODE FOR DEATH_NATION

death_nation : Sorry it took me so long to respond. I was just able to watch my DVR recording this afternoon. Here is basically everything that happens. Nothing really important happens with T-Dog (the black guy you saw) or Glenn (the Asian guy you saw). The episode starts of with most of the group mourning the death of Dale in the previous episode. Carl (Rick's son) blames himself because the walker that killed Dale was the same one that he was throwing rocks at in the woods earlier that day. Rick talks to Carl telling him it wasn't his fault. Rick told Carl he should keep the gun he took because he needs it to live as long as he possibly can in this hopeless time. Hershel (the farmer) finally decides to let the group live in his house. Shane has finally completely snapped. With Rick there, he no longer has any control over the group and he no longer has Lori or Carl as his. So he plots to kill Rick. He kidnaps Randal from his imprisonment to make it look like he escaped. He took Randal out to the woods and convinced him he wants to leave the group and join his gang of guys so he would cooperate. When they got far enough into the woods, Shane broke Randal's neck while his back was turned. He then bashed his nose against a tree to make it look like Randal bashed him in the face while 'escaping'. He then hid his gun so he could claim Randal took it from him. Rick took the men out to the woods to hunt Randal down. He paired up Glenn with Daryl and Rick with Shane. Rick caught on very quick that Shane was behind all of this and he was about to kill him. He confronted him and so Shane pulled his gun on him. Rick refused to defend himself with his gun. Instead, he gets into Shane's head to make him break his guard by slowly handing him his gun. When Shane reaches for Ricks gun, Rick quickly rams a knife through Shane's chest, killing him. He cried because he was forced to kill his best friend. When he turns around, he sees that Carl saw the whole thing .As he approached his son, Carl pulled out the gun and appeared to be pointing it at Rick out of fear. Rick did not notice that Shane came back as a walker. Carl fired the gun, hitting Shane right in the head before he reaches Rick. However, the gunfire immediately attracted hundreds of walkers to the farm, which is where the episode ended.
SPOILER!!! I BREAK DOWN EVERYTHING FROM THE MOST RECENT EPISODE FOR DEATH_NATION

Talking about Season 3 so don't read if you haven't watched it yet.

I have been catching up on the series online and I'm almost to where I can go record every Friday and watch it then I like this show more than alot of them that are on the air right now.

Anyways I watched were the group gets into conflict and Rick said "This isn't a democracy anymore." They go into the prison and the baby is born. I really think that he shouldn't have put his mother down and should have rushed out and got the Dr. but maybe she was so far gone that even he couldn't help her. The bleed out was pretty bad but still there is always a chance.

Oh yeah and Merl? Oh my gosh that is a amazing part, so cool. He is alive! I knew he wouldn't have bled out from getting his hand chopped off, maybe ate by walkers but he is way tough for any other thing to pull him down. Even though he is a you know what to everyone and a racist I like him and think he could be a good protecter of Ricks group[ as long as a keeps his hands clean and watches his mouth. I mean he has a blade for a hand now so you can't really top that.

Sameel : Well, the show has made a lot of changes from the graphic novel series (mainly so the fans of the novel won't know exactly what is going to happen next), but if they continue to stick close to the novel as far as Merle is concerned, you might not have the same opinion of him later. But like I said, they do make changes to keep the ones who know the graphic novel interested. For example, Lori is dead now, but she didn't die in the novel until just a little later. In the novel, she gets shot in the back with a shotgun while carrying the baby in her arms. She falls forward and ends up killing the baby when she lands on it. That clearly isn't the case here. So we will see what they do with Merle.

zeldazocker505 : The Walking Dead is originally a graphic novel series following a band of survivors after a complete zombie apocalypse. The story surrounds these characters as they try to re-establish themselves in a world where hoards of walking dead could lurk at every turn. You will see them struggle to survive, find places to try to settle, and keep their sanity and their humanity.

The AMC network has made this still going graphic novel series into a television show.
