Inhalable caffeine hits the market!
Its a canister the side of a lipstick tube, you puff it and it shoot a lemon - lime flavored powder in to the user's mouth and most of that powder is caffeine!
Its called Aero Shot, now is it safe?
Most concerned are coming from the medical professional stating that kids could get a hold of this since they are no age limit , and what it can do is they can take a little alcohol and take the Inhalable caffeine and it prolonged the alertness so you can drink more alcohol and this is the main issue the medical professional fears, and worries about emergency room visit like kids coming with arrhythmia of the heart or even heart attacked which is not uncommon to see in late night emergency rooms like it was seen in the past with energy drinks..
Id like to know how you guys feel about this new Inhalable caffeine, you think its a good thing or they might push it too far?

maxpayne1984 : hmmm... where did you hear about this from? And as for Aero Shot, I think I might replace 5 our Energy as long as some morons do not abuse it like the medical professionals are worried about. And honestly, I would try it, but probably wouldn't like it. I do not like lemon flavor stuff, except for lemon lime, and the only time I do that is when I drink Sprite of Mountain Dew.

Breathable Foods previewed the product in the fall of 2011 by providing access to free samples on college campuses in these cities, and nationwide through their website for a trial period. The product also launched this past fall in Paris at Edwards’ Lab Store. AeroShot can now be purchased at retailers in Boston and New York, including select Tedeschi Food Shops®, 7-Eleven®, Barnes & Noble® and Newbury Comics® stores, and can also be purchased online

It does not surprise me of where such a product was sampled and where it is being sold. Book stores, convenience stores, and college campuses; all are places people are bound to be or go to that give them reasons to be up until the crack of dawn when they should be asleep. This is not something we should have. I've been told that my dad's problem with kidney stones is brought about because he drink a lot of coffee and not water --he does go to bed at a reasonable time every night. If you need caffeine to stay awake for anything, there might be something wrong with you already.

When I think of this, I think 'over-the-counter speed'.

There are, and have been around for a while, caffeine pills, but with this, is the mg of caffeine listed on the label. Has it been tested for how much of this stuff is too much?

This is definitely not the best idea. When I read this, I brought it up for discussion in my anatomy course because we recently went over how inhaling drugs can be more dangerous than ingesting. It is pretty much the same reason why sinus infections can be so dangerous. There is a direct passage from your nasal passage to your brain (and it is a short distance). Prolonged sinus infections are dangerous because it can reach your brain and rot it. Inhaling things like this tend to work faster than ingesting because it pretty much takes it to your brain. Ingesting caffeine is a natural way to get it's energy. Break it down and use it's energy in it's simplest form. I have no idea what the effect unbroken caffeine would have directly on the brain. I guess that will be seen later. Also, could this cause any problems with something like a deviated septum? Probably not because I assume they thought of that, but you never know what they overlook.

Concerning the health issue's about AeroShot, it is important to mention that AeroShot didn't require FDA review before hitting the U.S. market because it's sold as a dietary supplement. But New York's U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer said he met with FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg and she agreed to review the safety and legality of AeroShot, U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials plan to investigate whether inhalable caffeine sold in lipstick-sized canisters is safe for consumers and if its manufacturer was right to brand it as a dietary supplement.

I was wondering how long it would take people to make something like this.  Honestly, only caffeine junkies need something like this.  CDL drivers are informed early on that nothing is an adequate replacement for a good night's sleep, and that an attempt to use pep pills or even just regular caffeine will just make you crash that much harder when it wears off (not to mention it doesn't last nearly as long as you would think and causes plenty of medical problems in the long run).  These are people driving big rigs and dump trucks, the same people who used to rely on this kind of stuff.  The average consumer isn't doing anything to require caffeine boosts.

In all honesty, this isn't the first inhalable energy supplement I've heard of, but it is the first one I've heard of that uses caffeine.  Before this was a small tube filled with a mixture of energy boosting scents called Noz Kandy Inhalerz.  I got more of a jolt out of those things than I ever did with caffeinated products...especially the peppermint.  Even without anything other than vapors, my nose got a little sore from the intake, so yeah, I'd say that a spritz of anything into your airways can cause some problems.

Just wondering. Has anybody had the opportunity to find these things and try them? If so, how are they? Do they even work? Is it irritating or unpleasant? I'm still very curious about this.

I hope people won't start abusing this (Mostly because it's caffeine not crack) Anyway, it seems quite useful for..Coffee, soda, and chocolate haters. Now they can stay up all night

Probably about as safe/healthy as 5 Hour Energy or any other Energy drink. There's probably nothing wrong with it.

If I wanted caffeine, I'd prefer coffee.

Annette : The issue is that it actually isn't a way of ingesting caffeine. It is inhaling it. Drinking pop, coffee, energy drinks, and so on, go to your stomach to be broken down and the caffeine is distributed by means of digestion. This ends up putting caffeine in the lungs. I read up on this and because caffeine isn't normally put into the lungs, this worries some about what it can actually do to them.

rcarter2 : Ahh, I see. Well, in the lungs, it would make direct contact with your bloodstream via the capillaries in your lung tissue... The attraction is probably that you'd probably get a caffeine rush pretty fast without having to digest anything. As for the long term effects of putting caffeine spray on the lungs I obviously can't say, perhaps time will tell as people use this product. I know you can put caffeine directly on your skin with no known terrible consequences. I doubt it's one of the worst things you could bother to inhale, lol.

LOL, I sometimes need caffeine, but I have really bad allergies. I think that that itself will rule me out from having this during the school year.

I think I’ll just stick with the Coke.
