So I have three huge assignments due before the end of this semester. I have to write three creations. Each has to be approximately 4000 words or over 10 pages. I don't have a problem writing that much, but I am having problems thinking of ideas. If anyone can give me topics to write poems and/or one or two short stories over, I would be grateful. I only ask that you don't give me an overused topic like "love" or "death" or anything like that. Other than that, I'm up for anything. I will be working on this for the entire semester, so I will be checking this thread a lot until then. Thanks guys.

I got one that I bet you could make an amazing story from. Have you ever played the game E.V.O - Search for Eden for the SNES? It kind of has it's own little story on the creation of all life on earth. Anyway, I'm not saying do that story, per say. But when I was a high school student, I ended up making a 20,000 word story using the concept that that game followed. A little creature that starts out as a fish, and guided by Gaia through all the major eras (fish, amphibians, Dinosaurs, Mammals in the Ice Age). I made chapters that followed his journey through each major era. If the thought interests you, make a quick play through of the game for inspiration. I would love to see the kind of adventure story you could make with that. You can do anything you want with it. I might be misguided on your writing style though. Just a suggestion

An interesting theme that I've always thought about is what would the world look like through a ghost's eyes? Wouldn't you think life would be pretty lonely like that? Going through all of eternity, seeing people, hearing people, but never being acknowledged? Could a "ghost" somehow find happiness or contentment with that? Or would he/she forever be cursed to eternal loneliness?

rcarter2 : I like that idea, but I don't think it's something I could write myself. I'm much more of a poet than a long story writer. But I do think that is a nice idea. Maybe it's something you could write yourself and make some money off of.

Someone70 : Now that is something I could do. I might even be able to make a short story out of that if I try hard enough. That's a really neat idea.

Thanks. I have several other ideas swimming around, too, so don't hesitate to ask if you're ever stuck. x3

What about a short story or poem that is from the perspective of a guardian angel. As a guardian angel, he/she has one that they look over, but unable to directly interfere. Does the angel truly care for the person the are given to watch over? Does it feel heartbreaking or just frustrating when there are times you can't seem to give the person a message that they take as a message to listen to? What if the guardian angel is given someone like a murderer to have to watch over? Would they really care about what happens to the person?

Someone70 : Hey by all means. If you have any new topics put them here. I have a lot of writing to do and not a lot of time to get it done, so any bit of help is appreciated. However, I don't want to steal any ideas that you may want to use, so if it's something you want to write about in the future then don't tell me.

rcarter2 : I like that idea. I may be able to use that. Oh and look above at my response to Someone. I don't want to steal any of your ideas either.

Oh, it's not stealing. I might come up with an idea once in a while, but I am by no means a writer. I couldn't write stories or poetry to save my life. That is why in theater, I have always been an actor and not a playwright Feel free to use anything I suggest because I am not going to make something out a story idea I come up with. Can't really steal something that won't exist otherwise

Don't worry, I have my own safe of ideas that I plan to write on. These are just brief things that I've thought about. But, you know, the same theme can be interpreted in different ways, so that's ok too.

Someone70 : The 'ghost eyes' concept is pretty good, but I must ask if you've ever heard of or read Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison? It's a fantastic novel and kind of goes off of that concept a little bit, but the main character is "invisible" for different reasons.

XxChaosxX : "CREATIVE writing--need ideas." lol sorry, I just thought it sounded a little ironic. Totally understand though. I once wrote a few pages in like 9th grade about someone who's business bought out Wal*Mart. I don't know if you'd be interested in writing about anything like that, but I'd say it'd be interesting to write a story about 'the next big thing,' so to speak. Most of my other ideas are sci-fi related and i hope to publish them someday, sorry. lol Good luck this semester, though! I need to do some bogus 10 pg research paper for my final Gen Ed class, Human Sexuality and Culture. It's quite a terrible class so far, organization is mainly to blame. Don't understand why it had such great reviews as an easy class on ratemyprofessor. Have to interview people...about uneasy topics. Sounds fun...

Hmm, I guess I have a few Ideas that you can try, and I may list more later in different posts.

1.)Narrate the life of a fictional character suffering from an existential vacuum searching for a reason to exist. Document their progression as a human being through their interactions with people, subtly change their character every so-often as their experiences shape them, and end the story with the answer that they have found for living, whether it be their friends, their will to live for the sake of living even if there is no answer, their family, or their faith or whatever else you may think of.

2.) Make up a game, describe the rules in explicit detail, make it a major league game that people play whether it be in school, or in life, and make stories out of the sport following those who play it and their playing of the game. i.e., a fake sport, and a school team enters a tournament to make it to the top. Follow this team and describe their interactions with each other, their opponents, their feelings about the game, and their playing of the game.

3.) Someone is trapped inside their own mind (maybe a sad, depressed, person, or a person who denies who they really are) and must explore the vast reaches of their own mind in an effort to come to terms with all of their flaws and quirks, through strange, mysterious, yet comedic encounters with bits of there personality. And they're trapped there unable to wake up until they come to understand and accept themselves. Or maybe, this exploration happens during their dreams, whilst they continue life normally while they are awake, and what they do during their dreams can directly affect how they act when they are awake, and they probably don't have any recollection of these dreams.

Those are just a few ideas that I thought of on the spot, that I think can be tampered with, and expanded into 10 pages worth of story quite easily. I will try to think of more in time. Maybe of different, less psychological genres. And of course, feel free to use these. Hopefully this helps.
