| - Is Sega finally coming back? |
|
| ||||
|
I saw David's video about there eventually being a Dreamcast 2 in our future.
Personally, since the Dreamcast 1, I've been skeptical if Sega would eventually come back to the consoles. It's been, what, around a decade. Looks like their time has come to enter the console wars (or so we think). But are they really coming back? What if it's just a rumor? It is said to be released this year. What do you guys think? I honestly do not know much about the Dream cast. It looks like an old console that would be popular when the PS1 was released. I would not believe anything about a Dream cast 2 coming out.
1sam234 : How about finding some more information about it.

It would be neat if they did produce a Dreamcast 2, but it would have to be incredibly advanced if they were planning on profiting. With the current advancements on the market, it would be a bad move for them if it didn't exceed the competitors.

Well, I would love it if they could make a Dreamcast 2. I mean, the original Dreamcast was pretty awesome for its time, and is still awesome today. If they could make a console that an outdo everything current home consoles do, it would be awesome.

I'm actually looking forward to this console. I don't know too much but knowing Sega is making a comeback I might want to check it out.
Vita is still number 1 on my to-get list

I can kinda confirm it's not going to happen, Nya~.
1) It's too risky to throw a new system into the ring, due to the competition (PS3, Xbox 360, 3DS, Wii) 2) It'll ruin their relations with other companies, which won't allow them to put any more games on any other systems (Sonic won't be on a PS3, etc anymore if this were to happen. Only the DC2). Both of those reasons would cause a major wipe out in money and such, which could cause them to get out of business, Nya~. |

I can't say if I think this will happen or not. I LOVE the dreamcast. Hands down it's my favorite 6th gen console next to gamecube. But, the dreamcast has more of a cult following over popularity. I feel that Sega, if they released another console, would screw up somewhere down the line and we'd get another 32x.

Personally I don't think that the Dreamcast 2 will ever exist. (As sad as that may seem) Sega Realizes that there's no extra room on the market to oust the Big 3 right now. The video game industry also has added the Tablet PC and phones over the past few years, and even though you may not see that as being a viable gaming platform...it all contributes to watering down the market that much further.

I actually watched an interview with the president of development of SEGA. They brought up this rumor about Dreamcast 2. He said that they don't even have an plans to think about the possibility of throwing their hats back into the console ring. They have a safe seat where they are right now with the other consoles by providing their brand games for the systems and he always finds it a little funny when these rumors about bringing back the Dreamcast name is brought up. I love the Dreamcast. It still holds the spot of my favorite console of all time and had my all time favorite games, but I won't torture myself by making myself believing this will happen. I do that enough by bringing my hopes up every time SEGA or Yu Suzuki talks about Shenmue III.

I agree with rcarter2, Sega have it going for them when it comes to games. To me, it seemed that the only successful consoles they have ever produced was the Genesis and the Game Gear, as people actually remember them and the Dreamcast is overshadowed by the PSX and N64. Once they've stopped making consoles, I found that their game quality got better with their newer games, not that their games were bad to begin with. I've played the Genesis and Game Gear a lot at a friend's house when I was younger, but never found the point of getting one myself as SNES and Game had better games and more companies willing to make games for them. Same thing happened to the Dreamcast, everyone was heavily into N64 and the PSX. I still find people that are like "lol wut?" when I mention the Dreamcast, or the Game Gear for that matter. Dreamcast is the only Sega console I've ever owned, while it only had very few games I enjoyed I kept it because of Phantasy Star Online, and I'm really heavy into MMORPGs because of that game. Other than that, I would play the N64 at a friend's house or play the PSX with the vast collection of RPGs that it had.
I have the feeling if Sega would get back into the console market, it would just be 'another game console' amongst what Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony already have, and it might kill Sega's profit from their actual games if they were to make them exclusively for their said console, since it would just be silly to make games for their own console and yet release them for other more popular consoles. Very counter-productive. |

As a huge Sega fan, I don't think this would be a good idea. Sega waited too late to try to make a comeback in the console wars. Don't get me wrong, I would love for Sega to make a new console and blow the rest of the competition out of the water, but this should have happened a long time ago. The way I see it, if this console is made, there is a lot they'd have to do to keep up with just one console. Just saying.

I don't think Sega would - or could - enter the console market again any time soon. There are already many Sega games on other consoles already, not to mention many Genesis games that have been ported to nearly every current system. If Sega were planning to make a comeback, then we would probably be seeing those games removed from the consoles of their competitors.
Not to mention the Mario and Sonic series... |

I watched a video on Youtube and the president of Sega said they would not ever make another console, so no Dreamcast 2.
