I dont know much about computer hardware, so I hope on of you out there does and can help. My computer looks like it has four RAM slots in it (two are black and two are blue). My RAM fits into the black ones, but not the blue ones. So I dont know what they are for.

Here is a picture, but its not very good since my phone camera sucks. Can anyone help?

I Don't know the type of computer you have, so I can't really help.

I am afraid that is the best my phone will let me do, and I dont have a digital camera available. I will see if any of my friends have one I can borrow, but the prospects are minimal.

The different colors usually mean you can do Dual Channel. But since you said it doesn't fit between colors... i have no clue.

I think (but am not 100% sure) that they are the same as each other, its just if you put in 2 ram sticks (ones that are dual channel), put them in either of the same slots (both in blue or both in black)...

Thanks Bob. Its still a mystery as to what the other two slots are beside my RAM, but I know they are not for RAM. According to this site (http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner) I only have two RAM slots and they are both in use. So...I dont know what the others are for.

I have 2 graphics card inputs on my comp, and (I think) two ram slots.

If they look like ram slots, they are ram slots (like if they are identicle).

Download and run this and export a log, in either html, or betterly, .txt format. And post it in here, ill tell you what the slots are for.

Well search in windows help for "Computer information" then go to the hardware section on the right side. You should be able to figure out your motherboard specs and its name. That should help us help you. I don't know why they wouldn't be ram slots b/c its a different part of the motherboard that the graphix and pci slots are.

Exactly my point. Atleast if I got the motherboard, I'd be able to google it and find it in a computer store and they will have specs about the parts.

Ok Bob, done deal. Here is the TXT file:

http://www.geocities.com/canarith2006/cpuz.txt

EDIT: But I decided to google it myself:

Short Specifications
PROCESSORS
462 pin Socket A supports the AMD® K7 processors
Athlon XP / Athlon / Duron processors
CHIPSET
SiS 735 System Chipset
Super I/O and LPC - ITE8705F
System Hardware Monitor: Built-in ITE8705
LAN: MAC integrated in SiS®735 & PHY on board (Optional)
AC97 Audio Codec
SYSTEM BIOS
AMI 2Mb Flash EEPROM
Supports Plug and Play 1.0A, AMP 1.2, Multi Boot, DMI
Support for ACPI revision 1.0 specification
MEMORY
2 DDR DIMM sockets and 2 DIMM sockets support (can not be used simultaneously)

Two 184-pin DDR SDRAM (DDR200, DDR266) or
Two 168-pin 3.3V SDRAM (PC100, PC133)
Maximum: 1.0GB (DDR or SDRAM)

So I do have 4 slots, but only two can be in use at a time. But now I ask, what is the difference?

I would assume if your ram is DDR (buy DDR ram if you plan to buy some) it goes in the blue slots. They were for Dual Channel, and I assume Dual Data Rate is somehow Dual Channel (I could be horribly wrong though).

If you put them in the wrong slots, you wont destroy them, your computer will just beep and wont start up.

So yeah, keep your ram where it is, they are both SDRAM. If you got DDR, I think they woudl go faster though.

Hope that helps.

184 pin is what you would want to use. 2 512meg sticks might run you 50$. I bought 2 back in the day for 70$

DDR is old though, they are up to DDR3 and higher I think.

Apparenlty old hardware prices go up (well, with ram anyway), because I was going to get 2 x 512mb DDR (or might have been DDR2) sticks, and they wanted AU$150 each.

If system was made to support DDR, then use DDR for best results I guess..
