What are your thoughts on today's military? I think that they are awesome men and women who are far more brave than I am to go and risk their lives very often. I am one of the few people that I know anymore that actually loves our military as much as our country. You guys mean a lot to me and I wanted to say it. I salute you.

Though what are your thoughts on the Military?

I have great respect for the military volunteers out there. It's because of them that our country is safe the way it is and that we can live out these comfortable lives. I thank all of you.

Cyro Xero : Thought you might want to see this too.

I have great respect for service men and their choices and decisions to do what they think is right.

I personally would never join them, because I think any and all violence can and should be avoided. It's probably wrong of me, but I have my own way of fighting.

Military here (philippines)is severely underpaid by the government. They don't even have good shoes to use in the battle field. I have great respect for them because despite of their very low income (that isn't enough to support a family these days) they still serve and protect the country at all cause.

I think anyone should be able to post here. Not everyone here is American, and I wouldn't want to leave out those members in a thread. I'm glad someone from another country posted here. As a whole, I respect the military. What sucks though is that I know so many people personally who joined the military who are complete scum bags, and they think they deserve everyone's respect just because they are in the military. It defiles the military's good name. But I am respectful to the whole, just not all the individuals that I personally know. For those particular people, even joining the military can't earn my respect.

rcarter2 : I know people sort of like that. Some of my friends in high school are sadly ignorant, and plan to join the military to, "shoot terrorists and blow s*** up!" I respect anyone and everyone who's willing to throw down their lives in the service, but I don't want to hear about some of my buddies dying because they were careless. I'm sure boot-camp sets them straight, but still.

As for supporting the forces, just look at my layout and what-not. 'Nuff said lol

I have immense respect for the U.S. military. People who have the guts to protect a country are awesome in my book. I might not be singing patriotic songs daily, but I am grateful our military exists. You need... a really brave Voltorb or two to even get past the training part of military.

It's hilariously sad how people think the guys who do the shooting are having fun... Of course, I only heard such an insane idea from someone who was young. I was young when I heard it, and just thought they said crazy things...

The military is great. The me and women willing to go out and risk their lives so we have the right to sue people because we spilled hot coffee in our laps. But that's a rant for a different thread.

Also, did you know that the U.S. Military hires the most full-time musicians in the country?

On another train of thought, I'd think anyone can talk about their own countries military, they should just specify.

My father joined the US Navy to fight in World War II. Oddly, despite the nature of the job, dire circumstances, and awful living conditions aboard ship, if you ask him he would tell you all of the good experiences that he had. He considered it to be a great experience in his life instead of a bad one like you often hear.

I have friends who have fought in wars; some returned and others did not or have not yet. As far as I am concerned, regardless of why they are a part of the military (be it a soldier, a medic, or even the guy that fixes a busted radio,) they are all to be saluted and respected.

I encourage any of you (I don't know how it is done in other countries; I live in the USA,) if you hear about a homecoming that is coming into your area to go (even if we are talking about convincing your parents to take you) and shake the hands of those men and women returning from battle. It doesn't matter whether or not you believe in the current wars going on. Soldiers don't get to pick and choose their assignments. They go where they are ordered, and if you respect them, you should do so with only that in mind.

You might be surprised just how much they appreciate it.

Today's military is good, but I wouldn't call it as "legendary" as it was in, for example, World War II. In WWII, we had a much more pressing matter to fight for, but now we're fighting to abolish terrorists. I'm not saying that it's bad, but we're spending SO much money on the war it's almost absurd. I think it's impossible to "get rid of" all of the terrorists; they exist all over the world and no matter how many we kill new branches of Al Quada will sprout up.

Good people that are willing to give up their lives for us, amazing people that live to protect. True heroes. However, 'The Man' is using them as puppets. It's inhumane. They want fighting robots it seems, not heroes.

I totally respect the military and respect everything that they do. I think that they have probably the hardest job in the world. I hate that the military is always the first to have funding cut when determining a budget, and even benefits for our service men and women are declining daily. I have the up most respect for veterans as well but I agree with what someone said early on here about people who join the military as a means to act out COD or some other dumb reason. I believe that there are 2 good reasons for joining the military:
   1. You want to preserve your countries liberty and the freedom of citizens
   2. Or you join the military to help pay for college to help better your life (Many who do this option still decide to serve in the military and use their careers in the armed forces)

Regarded the men and women that make up the fighting force of our military, I have nothing but the utmost respect for each and every one of them. They have found it in themselves to do things and go places which I would never be able to do myself. The idea of killing another person, even if in self defense, is one a have difficulty grappling with, and these folks have to deal with that issue on a nearly daily basis.

The same cannot be said, however, for the individuals in charge of our military. I feel that they force our military to be far too aggressive and have us getting involved in matters that do not warrant our using out military. I good example would be interjecting ourselves into a war being waged between two other countries. We are not the police of the world and we need to stop viewing ourselves us such. If two countries that are in no way associated with the United States have a tiff and feel the need to settle it via war making, then they have the right to do so without our involvement. A military should be primarily for the defense of the homeland, not for mediating the wars of other nations.

I think we have a pretty strong and reliable military. We need to increase our military power that way countries will be to afraid to mess with us, so in return we become a peaceful nation without war. Just an idea.

billythekidmonster : I agree with what you have said. The only thing I shall add is that I believe that military personnel, whether enlisted or officers, should have increases in their salaries; they make shamefully little for what they do. Also, I want to go to Navy Officer Candidate School after college.

Ugh, I know a lot of these people too. I'm in the military and usually these people are Non-Commissioned Officers. I don't know how this started, but it's gotten to the point where the only thing you really need to do to be in charge of anything is stay in the Army for about 10 years. If you're not already an Staff Sergeant, you're about ready to get it. This is because all of the people in charge have been in the Army their whole lives and never done anything else because they were too afraid or stupid to get a real job, so they get all of this "power" and use it to pointlessly harass those under them.

I apologize to Cyro Xero, because I know he's an NCO, and I would hope this doesn't apply to him, but it's been my experience that NCOs are the problem with the Army today. But I guess that's why I only talk to officers unless I have to.

. What sucks though is that I know so many people personally who joined the military who are complete scum bags, and they think they deserve everyone's respect just because they are in the military.

Ugh, I know a lot of these people too. I'm in the military and usually these people are Non-Commissioned Officers.
