Link1238 : that would be awesome for them but I don't imagine with the team they have this year that they are likely to win it.

I would like to see them in the playoffs though because I get tired of watching certain teams get in every year.

Wow, a Blues fan... haven't seen one of those here before. I wish them luck.

So... watching the Pens vs Flames game right now and they were talking a bit about Calgary and stuff.... Chuck wagon races, Geeo?

Elara : yes, every year in July we have something called "The Calgary Stampede". There are chuckwagon races every year. They can be pretty exciting

Head shot on Matt Cooke... ironic, but dirty. Very dirty.

And I'm not seeing the guy that hit him in the box... the hell?

Elara : head shots are legal in Canada..... or, legal on Cooke.

Or the ref missed it. I doubt the league will miss it.

And really, why are you whining about this? 4-1.... come on.

It sparked a fight, and Cooke hasn't come back yet. Apparently they got a double minor, but they gave one to Engellend for the fight after the play so it canceled out.

Doesn't matter that we are winning, head shots are not cool. The Flames need to quit making cheap shots and focus on playing the game.

hey, I'm not defending the hit.... lots of hits are missed. I was watching the Leafs/Sens game earlier tonight and they missed a hit to the head. Malkin also delivered a hit to the head earlier in the game to a Calgary player that wasn't called. It's not a perfect system

I missed the Malkin hit as well... granted I wasn't paying 100% attention to the game since I was also online. They got him back and then some though with the knocking him down in the faceoff and then that slash. I hope his knee didn't get re-injured. But yeah, Flames did good on coming back there in the third period, but it just wasn't enough. I think they did fairly well over all when they kept their cool though.

yeah, I'm honestly not really sad about it. They are 2 of my favorite teams and the Penguins have a much better chance of making the playoffs and doing well so I would rather see them get the 2 points. And to get off to a good start without Crosby is also a good sign.

I thought Malkin had a better game last night than against Vancouver. He seemed more in control of the puck (and his skates ).... seemed like much more of a threat.

Also, the hit he delivered was not that bad, but according to the rule as it's written it should have been a penalty. The Calgary player was fine but technically it was a penalty. I didn't see the Cooke hit though... I stepped away from the game for a bit so I don't know how bad it was.

I agree, Malkin played better against Calgary than Vancouver. He looked a few steps behind in Vancouver. Not sure if he had an assist or not, either way he is  close enough to the Gordie Howe Hat Trick. Gotta love players who can score that fight too.

10 minutes until puck drop in Pens vs Oil game. I hope Malkin plays more like he did against the Canucks lol.

I cannot believe that we lost to the Oilers. What.the.hell? At least it was an overtime loss so we still got a point, but I turn my back for one second and we go from 1-0 to "it's a shootout"

Ugh.

As for the Cooke hit, no suspension was given to Sarich and they say it was incidental. Since he didn't get injured I won't complain too much... but it was one of those hits that, if it were Cooke making it, you just know they would have suspended him even if it was not on purpose.

Elara : yeah, but Cooke is one of those players that has made enough dirty hits in the past that they don't give him the benefit of the doubt anymore. He built himself a reputation and now he has to live with it. Sarich doesn't have that reputation.

And yeah, I can't believe you lost to the oilers either.... but at least it was an OT/SO loss so you got a point.

7/8 points to start the season for Pittsburgh. I'm happy with my East pick so far.

And to think they've managed it with no Crosby and 2 games with no Malkin. People really underestimate the rest of that team when those 2 guys aren't playing. They still have one of the top 5-10 goalies in the league and some hard working, talented players. I can't wait to see Crosby and Malkin healthy again and playing at 90+%.

geeogree : I don't underestimate the rest of the penguins, that's why I think Ovechkin is better.

Also, Sabres 2-0, and in very easy fashion. Fantastic start.

trouble982 : you might be right.... but it is entertaining that without playing a single game this year Crosby still has a better +/- than Ovechkin does right now

And I would still take Crosby over Ovechkin any day of the week if I had to pick between the 2.

And so would I.

So Crosby has a doctor appointment this week, and if that goes well we could see him back on the ice quite soon.

The home opener last night was pretty awesome. That one save Fleury made with his hand twisted around... that was just awesome! I really cannot wait to see our four IR guys healthy and back out. I know most people fixate on Crosby and Malkin, but Orpik and Jeffrey are also great players. I'm super happy that Jeffery is on the team this season, even if it was IR that got him there. He was amazing last year before his injury and I cannot wait to see how he does when he is recovered.

geeogree : I really don't think you could go wrong with either pick...It would be like deciding between Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers in the NFL. They are all such good quarterbacks that any of them would be great. I think I would take Ovechkin, just because I like him better, but It's really a coin-flip.

Sabres haven't played in a week, and now they play tomorrow at 7:30, while I'll be helping out at my Church's youth group....hopefully I can watch the Saturday game against the Penguins.

Crosby has been cleared for contact. I expect this means he'll be playing ASAP. He's been practising with the team for months (without contact) so I expect he's pretty much as close to game shape as he can be....

I wonder if anyone will hit him high in his first few games. I fully expect the game he gets his first hit to the head to become a brawl. I'd pretty much pound on the first guy who tries to take Crosby out again.

Elara : I'm not too surprised the Oilers beat the Penguins. It was a really close game and a goaltenders duel.  If the oilers get good goaltending they can beat any one on any given night, soo much talent with the forwards. Things may have been different with the Pens best 3 players in the game ( crosby, malkin, fluery) but I could also say the oilers would have finished much higher with their 4 best players last season ( Whitney, who was leading the team in scoring before he got injured, Hemsky, Hall, Horcoff, and others). I truly feel the oilers are closer to being an above average/playoff bound team than they are given credit for.

If any one has NHL 12 on PS3 send me a message with your account name if you want to team up ( or have me beat you lol) and maybe start up an EASHL team.

Word here is that he will go two to three weeks in full contact practice with the team just to make sure that no issues present themselves.

I just hope his first game back isn't the one against the Islanders or they will go for his head and it will be ugly. I'm sure they aren't that stupid though.
