Nintendo Leads The Way With New Home Console

Many gamers are excite about the E3 announcement that Nintendo made with its new home console the Wii U. The new home console is estimated to release early Spring of 2012. This release comes at the start of Nintendo’s new fiscal year. Many gamers have mix emotions about this release date, mostly about rather or not what happens if the new home console is a dud instead of a home run. However, looking at Nintendo’s history of letting consoles hit the market the earliest they release a console was September with the N 64. Some say that this is actually a good idea with the early release date. With Nintendo wanting to hit the market fast they will boost their income twice if the console does as well as Nintendo hopes. This is compared to only once if Nintendo waits for a Holiday release date.

Another thing that has most gamers worried about, is the new controller for the Wii U. This new controller looks like a copy of one of apples Ipads. The new controller has, “Approximately 5.3 inches high, 0.9 inches deep (not including buttons and other projections) and 9.0 inches long. The new controller incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 touch screen and traditional button controls, including two analog Circle Pads. This combination removes the traditional barriers between games, players and the TV by creating a second window into the video game world. The rechargeable controller includes a Power button, Home button, +Control Pad, A/B/X/Y buttons, L/R buttons and ZL/ZR buttons. It includes a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope, rumble feature, camera, a microphone, stereo speakers, a sensor strip and a stylus” according to e3.Nintendo.com. One thing that it does not say about the new controller is that it will not be sold separately from the console package. The site also does not say anything about rather or not more then one “Wii pads” can be used at once. However, The site does say that everything that the original Wii offered will be backwards compatible. Allowing four Wii remotes and nun chucks  to be connected to the console at once.

The e3.Nintendo.com site does say that these details are subject to change. However, one must wonder why the Wii U’s CPU will be running on an IBM based multi core possessor. Could this be the reason why Wii U has a controller that looks like apples Ipad?? There seems to be a lot of questions about this system that are still not answered. The Wii U’s GPU will be running on an AMD Radeon based high definition GPU. Some reports are saying that this will be more powerful then Nintendo’s rivals Sony’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft’s X-Box 360. There are also reports that Sony and Microsoft will move up there productions on their the home consoles sooner then most expected. Sony and Microsoft were expected to introduce their new consoles in 2014, however, with Nintendo’s announcement of the Wii U’s release date could this 2014 date be moved to a sooner date? Will Sony and Microsoft rush the production of their new consoles to counter Nintendo? So many questions with no answers.

Another question that gamers are asking is about the games. Will Wii U have better games then the Wii? Will the Wii U last longer in game development then the two or three years of game development that the Wii had? Sega seems to think so. According to wiiu.Nintendolife.com Sega’s West President Dunn has stated that, “ Development teams are finding it easy to understand architecture allowing games and engines to be transferred across to Wii U quickly and easily.” Dunn also goes on record that Sega will not make quick and dirty ports that will not take advantage of the new Wii U controller. A lot of gamers are hoping that more third party developers will take the same path.

Some games that are looking to come out for the Wii U are: Super Mario Brothers Mii, Dragon Quest X,  Lego City Stories, Killer Freaks From Outer Space, Pikmin 3, The Legend of Zelda HD, and also said to be released Super Smash Brothers. These games  are said to be the top games that are going to come out with the Wii U system. There has been really no release dates for some of these games. No word on if there is a Metroid game in the future for this system or not. There is also no word if there will be a Star Wars game for this system. Will be interesting if this Wii U will meet the high standards of the hard core gamer, or if it will be more a pealing to the family and younger gamers.

I have a feeling that the Wii U will turn away what people call the "hardcore" gamers, but since there are a lot more casual and family gamers out there, it's really to Nintendo's benefit to invest in those. And if the company lasts long enough, they'll be bringing up a loyal generation that will have an incentive to buy future Nintendo products.

Nintendo's goal is to bring in the hard core gamers back to there system. However there are way to many questions that have not been answered since the announcement of the Wii U. Mostly they are trying to stop the wait and see buyers from waiting and see what is coming out with the Wii U by having this new controller. However, it would be smarter to let leak what games will be coming out with the system. The rumor price of it also blends with this strategy. Wii U is predicted to run at $250 when it is first released. The low cost is to also stop those who would wait for a price cut and buy it earlier. Thinking about its a smart move as the PsP Vista or whatever it is called is right now running at $250 so would you rather get a console or a hand held???

I would rather get the PSVita than the Wii U. I'm not really a Nintendo fan, cause they don't normally make War Games. They do have War Games for the Wii, but they aren't made by Nintendo. To me, the PSVita is a bit better. By the way, nice thread, it's very detailed. I might get the Wii U when it's worth about 100$, I don't get that much money.

I can't wait for the WiiU to come out. Whenever they make something, the other major video game companies seem to copy them.

trouble982 : I agree with you there, the PS 3 Motion and the x box 360 Kinect. Both Sony and Microsoft have still not come out with any games that have gotten good reviews. They tried so hard to copy the Wii but have yet to match what the Wii has to offer. Even the critics are saying that Nintendo's Wii is STILL better then the PS 3 Motion and the X-box 360's Kinect.

trouble982 : again I agree with you, That is what the Wii U is suppose to try and get back for Nintendo. However, I have a feeling they are going to find themselves still more family friendly then that of the PS3 and the X-box 360. Honestly, more props to Nintendo for keeping the games out of the mature ratings. Don't get me wrong I like most of the mature rating games that Microsoft has come out with. But....I'm not going to play those games around my little ones. Its bad enough that I have a 2yr old running around the house going "pew pew" every time he sees a commercial that has guns in it.
