Just to comp[are this to the experience i have in the, basically, only game i play online DotA (a map for Warcraft III: TFT).

Online is best, more of a challenge and its real people. Ive even made friends online
And, 1v5ing the HIGHEST difficulty in the Ai version is a joke... finishing a game in 30 mintues most times.

Some games online end in 30 mins but most go for close to an hour. Online, just way more fun. Taunts are funnier, and killing someone with humor is good too

Like one time recently, an enemy was just killing some random enemys (allies to me ) and his hp dropped alot as he was taking all the hits and was stuck. He would of lived but the hero i was using has a 450 Damage, long range attack. i used it and he died it was funny as, and yeah he was pissed lol

DotA is awesome ^^

EDIT:

assuming it was you david who voted for Offline, please explain why. ^^ No point asking a question if you dont answer it yourself

I usually like to wait for a few people to give their opinions first so that when I submit mine, it blends with the croud. Otherwise if mine is the first, I'll be the main target for people to attack if they oppose my view point.

Here is my opinion:

I picked offline. Online is fun, but to addictive, to many annoying people online, and there's no story. Offline games are the greatest games out there, they are the ones that are legendary. With Offline, you can enjoy a rich and deep story line with characters - games like the Final Fantasy games, Shenmue, Pokemon, Mario series, Zelda series, etc.. are all games that are very fun whose entertainment cannot be replicated by playing them online.

Halo series, for instance, I'm sure there are many who will play the game's online mode to death but will never consider playing hte campaign. Though the campaign can be played online in Halo 3, it cannot in Halo 2, and in my opinion, that's the greatest part of the Halo games, the story, the music, the characters, etc.

I'm not saying Online is bad, I do plan to make Online multiplayer games for Vizzed someday. I just think offline is better because that's where the real adventure is. If it wasn't for offline gaming we wouldn't know the famous gaming icons such as Mario, Cloud Strife, Laura Croft, Link, Mega Man, RYO HAZUKI, etc. I like the fact that Online play can always be different depending on who your playing with or against, but still, I'd much rather play thru a game with my GF in co-op (story mode) such has Halo campaign, splinter cell games, star wars battlefront, super smash bros brawl, lego star wars, lord of the rings, etc. And of course I love the games that are only 1 player, just lately I've only been playing games when I'm with my GF.

I voted online.
The best games are ones that have both online and offline. I think anyone who has played halo online has played campaign, and most of them have finished it.
Theres only so many times you can play campaign untill you can beat it on legendary in your lunchbreak. That means you have to play online with real players.

The ultimate in video games are games where you can play online and offline to unlock stuff (battle field 2 is sorta like this), but then you can play online with your new unlocks.
Im not sure about halo3 armour, but armour is nothing special unless it gives you more health or something to change your characters stats.

Online is more sociable. People might think that some people hardly come out anymore when there playing WoW and stuff, but you think about it, they just have a new group of friends that all share a comen interest.

Halo 3's only disapointment was the fact that it doesn't have Bots, that is also something I was hoping for in Halo 3

What's UT? The only game I've played with Bots was Perfect Dark (n64) and it was so much fun because you could make the Bots act a certain way, adjust their difficulty, etc.

I've played Unreal Tournament, I'm just not familiar with all these abreviations people use now days, UT could really stand for several different things.

Last time I've played an Unreal Tournament game was for the Dreamcast, wasn't all that impressed by the game as much as I am with other games of the genre.

alot has happened since the dreamcast... CPU's on PC's can go over 2.0Ghz now!

UT is not what it used to be on Dreamcast, but you really have to be interested in that style of game play... you have to be able to kill without a purpose... or... well with the purpose of winning a game... not to save a life... protect an innocent or find the truth as most of us are used to doing these days... In UT your just proving that your better than the rest.. ^^

My top fav games (series)
1. Halo
2. NFS
3. Any decent RTS game

UT is really UT2004 right? UT was UT on dreamcast, theres UT on xbox too, but its UT3 or something, was pretty crap.
UT dosnt appeal to me, its barley realistic. Although halo isnt, it is at the same time.

Not every game out there is a first person shooter though. There are plenty games that aren't and don't require extremely intelligent AI anyway, like the Final Fantasy series.

Yeah... most RPG's dont because in FF you are also restricted ALOT by the programming... dodging attacks is luck based and not skill like in FPS games... RTS games need a pretty average AI but basically in RTS games you do the same thing every time... you start up, you have to secure extra resources. you have to build defence and manage offence. You need to build power and attack your enemys based upon your knowledge of their deffence.

Well, in a way, both. (However I'm not voting for offline gaming) In some circumstances, you just want to play alone and have time for yourself, other times or other people prefer to be on TeamSpeak in 30-player raids against massive dragons where there's always a Leeroy Jenkins in the middle to add humor. Depends on which game, which community, and which genre.

Oh man NOTHING is more offensive than a squeaker! (CAD Ref. #20060821)

I could read all the slander and insults in the world and still have my vision... some times... to a squeaker you can lose your hearing and often become disoriented and dizzy... Playing Online with prepubescent retards in NOT the way to play...

I have to agree with you Davideo, offline gaming offers so much. Most of my favorite games are offliners. My favorite video game series is Legend of Zelda (it was the first NES game I played when I was like 3-4 years old). I have played EVERY one since, and loved them ALL.

I do play some online games, but rarely. My favorite being Crimson Moon.

I had problems playing RE:OB after they closed the servers.
I can't even play without someone to help guide, let alone brainless NPCs/AI

Posit/Negat:

+ Spend time with long-distance friends
+ Learn faster/easier about the game and tips/tricks
+ Smart players, Helpful Players
- Hackers
- Flamers, Spammers, Cyber-bullying
- n00bs (Not newbies)

- Offline -
+ Better Storyline
+ Better Graphics
+ No Lag
- Brainless AI
- loneliness

Yeah that can suck, when I first started playing online games (dreamcast and phantasy star online), I had a dial-up connection and I was only able to play at night when no one was using the telephone (or when I'd ditch school and no one else was home ).

I'm going to have to go with offline gaming myself. I'm an RPG type of person and games like WOW, Everquest, and DII Don't do it for me. Although I probably will play DIII when it comes out, but only if it's free.

I was addicted to DII about three years ago and just recently started playing it... again. I recently quit playing it again because I remembered why I left the first time.

I hate the race. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. The race for good s***, or in DII "Godly EQ".

I can't deal with that. If I'm playing online I don't want to deal with a bunch of trading pricks only interested in swapping s*** for better s*** so they can say their dick is bigger. I'm sure this is not everyone online, but I just don't get into it. I play video games to take a step out of this world, I don't need a game where people try to implement the same traits as this one.

I play games like Oblivion or Morrowind. Final Fantasy games are great too and I love classics like The Legend of Dragoon and Super Mario RPG (which, by the way, just became available in the Wii's virtual console).

At the end of the day I can always find a good game to play offline with my own friends or by myself. I think if I were to play Online I would waste way too much of my time because I have books I want to read and college to tend to... plus I already have a 9" penis.

Speaking of online games' servers, there's obviously going to be a website that'll make a patch or hack to make new servers for RE: O

I think the Online is better than offline becuase you can vs. more Intellegent players that are actually alive and they can talk back, and you have people and friends to talk with. so online would be better for me.

im not really sure which to choose
online is cool with seeing people all around the world and stuff but (and im not saying anyone here is)you can get some real noobs. aka people who show off all thier upgraded stuff, peopl who are bad temperd beacuse u beat them etc

offline is cool cause you can play the story of the game either alone or with friends, or like halo 1,2 and 3 you can just sit back and kill each other to kill some hours. but you just dont seem to get as much thrill out of it after about the 3rd or 4th time of completing the game.

so im not sure

i picked offline cause ive had much more fun playing offline games then online ones.
no hackers, no flamers, no cheaters (unless im cheating ), no n00bs, better value BECAUSE its one time payment, etc.

i disagree with iBOCK3, plenty of offline pc games have updates/patches. console games NORMALLY didnt need them cause the games were actually finished instead of released early to please online players and get their monthly subscription fee (cough, wow, cough)

im a rpg gamer. if there was a good online rpg i'd try it.
but only if it didnt have monthly fees. im not paying $200+ per year to play a game...

I voted offline, i don't enjoy paying out cash every month for essential the same game that has a major patch every 6 or so months. Also I tend get very agitated with online games.

I prefer Offline gaming. I really think this windows live login busniess is ruining offline single player games, I mean.. What happend to the good old days where you installed a game, ran it and was not prompted to sign up or have an internet connection before you can play.

I prefer online play because offline doesn't last forever in say Halo 3 for example. You would then have to get more money to buy a new game.

However, offline doesn't have the hassle of setting up network connections, and being at the mercy of the lag from other people.

I still say online.

Hard choice... Both have their pros and cons. So i'll split them up and see how they do.

____________________________________________________________
Offline gaming-

Offline gaming is the product of legendary games. But online games haven't been out long enough to call any of them legendary (with some exceptions).

The music that intensifies each moment, the characters that develop through the vicissitudinous plot, and the story that drives us. These are all elements that can only be captured in a carefully orchestrated offline game. We experience each moment as if it were our own. I'm still pissed I couldn't avenge my father's death and kill Lan Di... Oh well... Back to "You Arcade".

The end gives you an extreme amount of satisfaction. You feel like you've accomplished something great(except cliffhanger games like Halo 2 and Shenmue 2).

Pros: The in-depth personal story, the music, art, character development. Sense of worth while playing as the the main character.

Cons: It ends at a point, and the characters are limited.
____________________________________________________________
Online gaming-

Online gaming is the supplement for offline gaming's con. In the online world... the story never ends. It may not have carefully planned stories, characters, or moments. But it doesn't lack'em completely.

You meet many people, and share countless experiences with them. You and your best mate can explore new worlds together like you dreamed of as kids.

You may not be the main character, but you feel like a part of the world. A world teeming with other gamers and their own characters. The moments are random, but they are still meaningful in their own right.

Pros: Never-ending story (TM), you make your own way with infinite outcomes, meet a lot of good people with similar interests, and self-accomplished worth in your character.

Cons: Addictive, no real plot, misplaced motivation (questing for the wrong reasons), grinding, too many idiots,
and monthly fees (most of the time).

____________________________________________________________
Final note:
Online gaming and offline gaming each have perks. But I will tell you this; I would rather see online gaming disappear, than see online gaming take over completely.

I vote offline

I always get randomly attacked and the spit beaten out of me if I even try to go online LOL. And I mean I could be a expert at a game but because of my sometimes laggy connection someone always takes advantage of it.

So i kind of have a slight stigma with online gaming

I would say Online because for some of those games that you beat and it's boring after that, you can just go online and play it more. It makes the gaming experience more intense, you also become a better player when you play online. Plus, I've always had to play video games by myself because no one in my family of 5 kids plays with me and when I play friends it's rare and I usually destroy them. Online lets me play alone, but not quite alone if you know what I mean.

Mmhmm.
I voted online.
Don't get me wrong, I *love* offline gaming.
Sometimes, even if there's no dialogue, it's just nice to actually have some form of human-human interaction.

And, as others mentioned, you get normally better at offline gaming when you get better at online. Once you can defeat human opponents which are much more unpredictable than a game's AI, chances are you'll be able to read computerized enemy's actions like a book.

Just as a quick example, I'm so used to playing Smash Bros 64 online that when I play offline I rarely lose a life. But when I log in and start fighting real people... I've still got a lot to learn.

I voted for offline though i had to think really hard about it for a few minutes... I mean offline gaming has it's perks deffinately and they make some amazing games... Alot of my favorite games are offline including the Dot Hack series, Final Fantasy, Wizardry 8, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time... But also the other side is online has amazing games as well such as Guild Wars, Diablo 2, Halo, and Starcraft... Yeah some of those games are old school but whose to argue classics aren't good? lol... It was a hard decision on my end...

You can also play with your friends offline.

Anywho, I voted offline. For me, both online & offline are addicting so there's no contest there. :p

I mainly just play online stuff for the social aspect. I love the stories offline games can give. They're much more immersive than online ones.

I am much more sentimental toward offline games. The stories and the characters that are created are much more involving for me. Every so often I venture into online gaming, which is fun, but I just don't get the experiences that capture my imagination.
With friends around though, it is great to have fun together. I really like co-op play especially. Some games are doing it very well these days.

I like the whole principle of online gaming for many reasons, such as:
-The players are real and not as easily to predict
-You can interact with people
-It's a place to show off your skills
-The overall experience of the game changes all the time

While i was originally introduced to offline gaming when I was a kid. I like online gaming a tad bit more when playing consistently. Stories to games and such are always fun but the whole online atmosphere is very fun and changes rapidly.

I have to say offline games are best.. Not only does it focus on you just playing yourself and getting better, but the offline games tend to focus on Story and Full game play. II also have a few problems with Online play, as Online games can have many problems related to surver, lag, and the fact that some random Guy youve never met just creamed your party of three characters in less than a minute.. ((MVC2 reference.. I got toasted.. badly))
If it were easier to screen and haveyou , know.. Noobs be able to play other noobs.. you know?
Nothing gets a guys confidence down Like watching his best team get pummled to death in record time..

HOWEVER. I have Litle to no problem with games having The OPTION of online play. I may not be one of them.. but msot DECENT fighting game players out there thrive on PVP combat.. I also like that many games have DLC available. ((For example my current RPG game im playing called Cross edge has DL dungeons and special items and outfits..))

Online gaming is fine..but Im better off Playing on my own or with familly members.. I gotta say thats among the best thing about games like Super smash brothers brawl.. I likebeing able to play by myself, play with familly, OR take the plunge and play online.. I wish more games gave those options..

Though there is one problem with Games needing online support... and thats when your net is down. If you cant connect to your internet for whatever reason you are unable to play a shocking number of games. I dont know if any of you guys were afected but a while ago the PSN got hit by some kind of bug that prevented games that had trophies from loading.. and even erased Data via online bug. Offline games dont have that kind of problem..

I'd have to say that online gaming is way better than offline gaming. If you play something like WOW, if you play online, you can see lots of other people, therefore making it heaps more fun. PLaying offline is isolation-wise, and definitely not as fun as playing with other people. So yeah, I go for online playing.

I like to play offline games best, because then you can do what you want and you aren't restricted by the other players. It can be fun to play with other people, but every online experience I've had is either that you're being held back by the other players, such as in Nazi zombies, if you have to spend the whole match reviving your team. Or, in other circumstances, you might not even be able to play, getting killed the second you spawn. Some people like it a lot, but for me video games is alone time to try and chill out. Or, it's time to go crazy and beat your friends up and feel like a champ I haven't had any good online experiences, so I tend to try and avoid them.

definately online gaming because you can have a good time with all the people you meet and make friends with. except when you meet those a$$holes you meet quite often, especially on COD.

Offline gaming is way better in my opinion. I only judge games by how well they are put together through the offline experience. Think all the way back to N64, Super Nintendo, and PSX. Some of the best games ever created only had a campaign mode. The only exception for those consoles is Golden Eye, best shooter of all time. =P. I feel like this is what this site is about, giving us a chance to play the greatest offline games of all time for free. My opinion may be biased because my favorite genre is the rpg...oh well!

Its more fun online because when you play the game itself your only challenging the computers skills but when you play online your challenging everyone elses skills and abilities and makes it more fun to try to over come everyone

Belmontzar : I definately agree with you there, I dont mind if a game has online, but it shouldnt be the sole focus of the game.
The single player mode is most important, most multiplayer games end up just being PVP anyway and dont require any thought to make.
Offline games are far superior, especially considering that they are made better and generally have better everything then online only games.

Im in complete agreement but am also aware that a lot of the times, you have those games that only you in your group like, and with the right game its just not very fun on your own. an online option is good for those types.. I just don't want to feel like I NEEED online to get the full work out of my game. So many games lately are released and feeel Almost half finished, with the other half in DLC.. its wrong in my head.. When I go to a store and pay 40 bucks for a game, I don't want to learn that the majority of the game is in DLc that probably costs More money. It also seems that many Game publishers are taking advantage of that, Rushing games out faster, and Later putting the finishing touches or modes Online as DLC.. instead of just taking the time and making a FULL GAME. From what I can tell the only game series that still releases full games is Dynasty Warriors, all of its DLc is extra costume sets (from what I have seen I could be wrong). Im just worried that at some point, your gonna get a game, for 20-40 bucks,, play it for an hour, beat it, and then wait two- three weeks for hte next part of the game, which you then pay 10 dollars to download and play.. I'm sorry about my little rant here.. but.. Im just irritated. I understand supply and Demand and basic business, but personally id RATHER wait and get the game when its actually finished, instead of having to pay almost 2X the actual game cost for the full game. I like the idea of DLc, I support he idea that Developers had Extra ideas, or wanted to add higns to the game after it was released.. releasing those as Extra.. but that's all DLC should be, extras.. but maybe that's just me..

I like both in truth.

Online gives me an opportunity to make friends and play against real people.
Offline is for when I don't feel like being connected, I can just play the story.

However, certain games are meant for certain styles. Personally, I dont want to play Final Fantasy online unless they turn it into a world of warcraft esque game. I play that game solely for the offline.

On the other side, I don't play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for the campaign, I play it for the online. Why? That's where the meat of the game is.

A good example of that would be Dreamcasts phantasy star online right? you have your single player campaign, where you play andleanr the story, and ten you have all the missions and stuff.. then online you can play again on a harder difficulty, and have more missions to complete. That type of game id love to play on and offline.. id be happy if they re released PSO for ps3.. that way I could play solo and online when I get stronger or want more missions.

Belmontzar : Phantasy Star Universe (PC/PS2/360) is similar to the old PSO I think as well, so they might make a newer one in time.
I'm not sure if it has the ability to play the same character in offline mode and online mode, but might be worth a look if it still has support, which is more likely at least seeing as it's newer then PSO.

Okay I voted for online gaming but I would also vote for offline gaming if I could.

I like online gaming just a smidgen more than offline gaming because you can have so many different choices at little to no cost, and along with having the choice of countless flash games you can choice to play games you can play offline on a game system.

one of the only downsides to online gaming is a lot of the time you can only play by yourself not with another person which I think can get boring.

another and what I believe is the biggest down side to offline gaming is the cost of game systems and games.

Although offline gaming has it's downsides it's major upside is portability. It's not so easy to game online all the time but it is easy to pull a game boy of PSP out of your pocket and start smashing monsters and racking up points.

I think they're both pretty even. Online gaming sometimes has lag, and sometimes you can't even connect with someone, but it's fun to mess around with your friends. And even though offline gaming isn't the same without your friends, the story, gameplay, etc, is better.

I'm more of a laid back guy when it comes to playing games so I don't like the stress of other people screwing me over. So I vote offline. I gotta say, when you just wanna run around and do things, those people who like to run around and kill other people are real jerks. It's like, I can't take five steps to get something before someone else takes it or kills you. (That's not in a specific game, just generally speaking). I guess I'm just not that competitive. That's one reason I like Pokemon so much, no stress. I don't have anything to worry about and it is just plain fun.

I say offline because I'm sick of people taking video games too seriously when youre against other players. You can't enjoy a game when everyone is stressing out. Gotta relax, and unless I'm playing in a server with friends or a LAN party... I'm disinclined to play games online.

Also, WoW. Case and Point

I voted offline because I like games with a deep story line and character development and you just don't get that online. I also don't like how serious people get when they play online or how immature some of them are. The only online game I have played and liked is WoW but I also found it very addictive and haven't played it in about a year.

Davideo7 : Well, I have a mixed opinion here, I usually play Fight Night online after I beat career mode a couple of times, the one thing I don’t really care for in regard to it is that some people resort to dirty tactics rather than play by the rules when trying to get a knockout. For instance I fought a couple of bouts yesterday against some people who were very good skill wise where as I am trying to re-familiarize myself with the controls because up until a week ago I wasn’t able to play for months.

Anyway, I ended up getting knocked down with one of my fighters in the Middleweight division and I got up and beat the count only to have the guy I was fighting throw a head butt and a low blow to stagger me so he could finish the fight. I ended up leaving him a message on PSN that for someone of his record which was something like 23-2,15 KO’s to resort to dirty tactics to win a fight doesn’t speak well of his skill and such.

He responded with some trash talk saying that I wasn’t really that good and sucked etc (Which in reality I’m not bad, had a few ranked fighters before I had a YLOD problem.) I didn’t think much of it and simply said I may not be on your level just yet but at least I play by the rules.

It isn’t that big of a deal obviously because it was likely a kid with nothing else better to do with his time and it's a game after all but, something like that probably annoys me more than most because I actually cover Boxing for a living and have a natural appreciation for technique and skill rather than dirty fighting.

I do think that offline play is good also and gives you a better chance to get some skills before competing online depending the game. What I like in the case of PSN is that likely you have the chance to download some add-on content for most games, what I think they should do is reduce the pricing on some content though but for some paying $.99 to $5.00 isn’t so bad.

I also think that online gaming has gotten considerably better over time and as new games come into circulation that it seems to have more enhancements. One thing I think needs to be improved though is servers especially for games released by EA. Sometimes you'll be playing a game and either right before the game starts or in the middle of gameplay the server will disconnect you from the person your playing seemingly at random.

It will likely get better in time. I do enjoy the competition though when I have the time it's relaxing.

I personally enjoy offline gaming more. Mainly because 1) depending on your connection to the Internet, your game might lag, cut completely, etc, 2) n00bs and conceited jerk offs will often curse you off when they are beating you in any way. The only reason I really use online gaming is so I can play with my friends, I don't like just playing with random strangers.

I could go either way with that. Online games get updated every so often, adding to their game play. Offline gaming is fun if you're bored or hanging out with friends or having a party.

Offline without a doubt.

1. Offline games offer a better story because they allow phasing more easily than online games.
2. Offline games offer better gameplay because it can add endless amounts of diversity while online games are stuck trying to be as much like chess as possible (if you check out WoW you will see what I mean, World of Chesscraft is more like it these days).
3. Offline games offer unlimited progression.
4. Offline games require no subscription fee after a X amount of time.
5. Offline games don´t "need" you to be there for a raid or something, you can take a break whenever you want to.
6. Offline games neither have elitists nor noobs.
7. You can choose any of the different things you want in a offline game, sure you can go for the best spec in the whole game but unlike in online game no one forces you to do it and you can be a bard or whatever you want to be.
8. No hackers or gold sellers messing up your game.
9. Never unplayable because of connection issues.

And I can go on.

Only thing that Online games are better at is that you can more easily play with friends, but online games consist most of the time 99% of strangers who most of the times are either elitists who put you down for playing the way you want to play (even when you´re not even asking to play with those people...) or noobs who believe it´s your duty to either do what they want you to do (boosts, giving money, help them... ect) or get spammed by them logging between different characters between each ignore.
Offline without a doubt.

it all just depends on the game to me. if its console, then i like online gaming better. but if its pc then typically im gonna enjoy offline games more. but games like wow and starcraft 2 are incredible and im pumped for diablo 3. (im a huge blizzard fan)
once diablo 3 comes out, im probably going to prefer online gaming more.

Offline gaming is great for practice and stuff (if its competitive games) but Online is where you get to showoff the fruits of your labor and hard training! Its also a good way to make rivals and such!

I voted for Online, but I guess it all depends on your preferences. I recently got Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for the PS3, and have had just as much mastering the offline Arcade mode as I have mashing it up in the Online lobbies. There are times when the Online fighters bug or annoy me with cheap tactics, so I go back to offline for a while and cool down.
