i picked offline cause ive had much more fun playing offline games then online ones.
no hackers, no flamers, no cheaters (unless im cheating ), no n00bs, better value BECAUSE its one time payment, etc.

i disagree with iBOCK3, plenty of offline pc games have updates/patches. console games NORMALLY didnt need them cause the games were actually finished instead of released early to please online players and get their monthly subscription fee (cough, wow, cough)

im a rpg gamer. if there was a good online rpg i'd try it.
but only if it didnt have monthly fees. im not paying $200+ per year to play a game...

I voted offline, i don't enjoy paying out cash every month for essential the same game that has a major patch every 6 or so months. Also I tend get very agitated with online games.

I prefer online play because offline doesn't last forever in say Halo 3 for example. You would then have to get more money to buy a new game.

However, offline doesn't have the hassle of setting up network connections, and being at the mercy of the lag from other people.

I still say online.

Hard choice... Both have their pros and cons. So i'll split them up and see how they do.

____________________________________________________________
Offline gaming-

Offline gaming is the product of legendary games. But online games haven't been out long enough to call any of them legendary (with some exceptions).

The music that intensifies each moment, the characters that develop through the vicissitudinous plot, and the story that drives us. These are all elements that can only be captured in a carefully orchestrated offline game. We experience each moment as if it were our own. I'm still pissed I couldn't avenge my father's death and kill Lan Di... Oh well... Back to "You Arcade".

The end gives you an extreme amount of satisfaction. You feel like you've accomplished something great(except cliffhanger games like Halo 2 and Shenmue 2).

Pros: The in-depth personal story, the music, art, character development. Sense of worth while playing as the the main character.

Cons: It ends at a point, and the characters are limited.
____________________________________________________________
Online gaming-

Online gaming is the supplement for offline gaming's con. In the online world... the story never ends. It may not have carefully planned stories, characters, or moments. But it doesn't lack'em completely.

You meet many people, and share countless experiences with them. You and your best mate can explore new worlds together like you dreamed of as kids.

You may not be the main character, but you feel like a part of the world. A world teeming with other gamers and their own characters. The moments are random, but they are still meaningful in their own right.

Pros: Never-ending story (TM), you make your own way with infinite outcomes, meet a lot of good people with similar interests, and self-accomplished worth in your character.

Cons: Addictive, no real plot, misplaced motivation (questing for the wrong reasons), grinding, too many idiots,
and monthly fees (most of the time).

____________________________________________________________
Final note:
Online gaming and offline gaming each have perks. But I will tell you this; I would rather see online gaming disappear, than see online gaming take over completely.

I vote offline

I always get randomly attacked and the spit beaten out of me if I even try to go online LOL. And I mean I could be a expert at a game but because of my sometimes laggy connection someone always takes advantage of it.

So i kind of have a slight stigma with online gaming

I would say Online because for some of those games that you beat and it's boring after that, you can just go online and play it more. It makes the gaming experience more intense, you also become a better player when you play online. Plus, I've always had to play video games by myself because no one in my family of 5 kids plays with me and when I play friends it's rare and I usually destroy them. Online lets me play alone, but not quite alone if you know what I mean.

Mmhmm.
I voted online.
Don't get me wrong, I *love* offline gaming.
Sometimes, even if there's no dialogue, it's just nice to actually have some form of human-human interaction.

And, as others mentioned, you get normally better at offline gaming when you get better at online. Once you can defeat human opponents which are much more unpredictable than a game's AI, chances are you'll be able to read computerized enemy's actions like a book.

Just as a quick example, I'm so used to playing Smash Bros 64 online that when I play offline I rarely lose a life. But when I log in and start fighting real people... I've still got a lot to learn.

I voted for offline though i had to think really hard about it for a few minutes... I mean offline gaming has it's perks deffinately and they make some amazing games... Alot of my favorite games are offline including the Dot Hack series, Final Fantasy, Wizardry 8, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time... But also the other side is online has amazing games as well such as Guild Wars, Diablo 2, Halo, and Starcraft... Yeah some of those games are old school but whose to argue classics aren't good? lol... It was a hard decision on my end...

You can also play with your friends offline.

Anywho, I voted offline. For me, both online & offline are addicting so there's no contest there. :p

I mainly just play online stuff for the social aspect. I love the stories offline games can give. They're much more immersive than online ones.
