Should Nintendo stop making consoles and just stick to there epic video games and put them on all platforms?

They should start doing different things with their franchises like the Zelda games. Maybe they could make another Zelda game like the sequel to the first one. Make an action RPG. Mario's not going off the hook, either. They should at least make some other games like Luigi's Mansion. It was a great idea done well, and deserves another go. It was kinda like a Mario take on survival horror, which is cool. Pokemon isn't made in house, and should stay the same, since it works best the way it is.

I have tons to say about how they almost always have some gimmick that ends up being used right by few on their recent home consoles, but I hardly know how I can word my thoughts on this matter.

No, NO! Nintendo just had an off generation. Just wait when the next gen consoles come out Nintendo will sweep the floor! I still have faith in you Nintendo

I can understand the off generation but the wii u isn't looking like it is going to revitalize the way you play games on the wii. Zelda is still using wii motion plus. I would just love to see Zelda Metroid or Mario on my 360 or PS3. I am a long time Nintendo fan but I think that its time to hang up the joysticks and stick to what they do best in the video game market and that is make great games. 

carlile :  good idea about the oldies being available everywhere, but nintendo still got it. First handheld 3d console. First at home console with motion sensor technology, nintendo is the only platform without high definition and it doesn't matter to wii owners. They should put together an oldie pack though. But I'm okay with connecting my pc to my tv, and playing the oldies here on vizzed using my ps3 controller!!! Feels the same, plus it is free!

I give a ton of cred to Nintendo for doing what the did with motion tech, HD gaming isn't that big of a deal I lived without it for years. One of the big downfalls to me is the lack of online play. Think of Super Smash Brothers online it would be amazing Xbox and PlayStation are leaps and bounds ahead of Nintendo and with Xbox bring cloud saves the gap is only getting bigger.

Nintendo's systems are one of the most selled of all Consoles, I'd say only the PS3 beats it, but I'm sure other people would say different.

Galacta : well wii has sold the most units due to the cheap price and the fact its the only consoled geared towards familly games.

so long as they keep it different to the main consoles they have a future but if they try to competed with the hardcore consoles they will be swept away.

I think they should try to do what Microsoft did there new thing that came.

oh i thought you meant the ps3 was the only console to beat it in terms of sales. no i totally agree the ps3 is better than it, thus the reason i only have a ps3.

ethaniel : The first 3D handheld console was the Virtual Boy. I don't care how much people want to forget it, it's a mistake that should be given credit for being first in the line of 3D handheld. The Wii was far from the first console to be motion control based. That crown goes to the Xavix. Nintendo's Wii did something most attempts at motion control didn't, it actually worked. The Xavix was one of the other few that actually worked.

Just because Nintendo innovates, doesn't mean they were first at everything. In fact, I believe the first controller to have analog control was the Atari 5200. Nintendo just knows more about how to make what their popularizing better quality if it's something like motion control or analog sticks. I'm not ganging up on you, just giving you the facts.

That aside, Nintendo is doing things like a high roller at a casino right now. They could easily do without something like a touch screen on a console controller. I hope they learn this someday, because just because you can do a million things just to create the unneeded idea known as giving people who aren't huge gamers yet like video games a different idea doesn't mean you should.

I'm not trashing Nintendo, just saying they are going too far with all this innovation. Remember the Gamecube? It hardly did much new, and that had nothing to do with the sales. It just was not selling as well as the Xbox or PS2. Nintendo did a good job with that console despite not adding some innovative thing. The sales, sadly, probably hit them like they were playing Duck Hunt drunk, and ended up thinking everything must have a touch screen, motion control, or even use what could just be a fad.

Go ahead and say I'm whining over nothing. I like their consoles, but am not happy with the way they are going too far by making everything have stuff it could do without ever since the Wii was such a huge success.

Even though that Nintendo aren't on the good side of their consoles, but I think they still can improve with the upcoming consoles too. It may seem like they really can't make a good console, they might redeem themselves in the future, so I say no.

No, I would disagree with that actually. Nintendo should continue doing what it's doing. A lot of devices that seem really "gimmicky" at first actually turn out to be great ideas. People said the DS was a terrible idea, but it turns out it's one of the biggest sellers out there in the gaming world ever.

The reason why the Wii flopped on its back is because many developers didn't take the time to finish making their games because they thought of the Wii as a simple gimmick. But as you can see, Nintendo made great games on their own platforms. So I don't see a reason why Nintendo should stop making consoles and just make games when it can do both really well.

Someone70 : This is very true. The DS was using an idea that had been used by the Tiger Game.com, which was having a touch screen. It wasn't as gimmicky as the Wii in my eyes since it was a handheld. The 3DS is just using a fad that will only be kept alive by that thing, most likely. The Wii's motion control is the most widely accepted on this site, as it seems. I would rather they just try stuff that gives the developers less bright ideas. Many games for the Wii that were shovelware are examples of this.

Nintendo will find their console making days dead with a dog licking the blood in hopes of finding some meat if they make things less easy to make shovelware for. The DS has some, but a touch screen makes it harder to be as lazy with. With the Wii, you can develop stuff like that Smurfs dance game where you can do things wrong, and end up beating the game just because the controls in that game suck so bad. It's easier to mess up motion control in general, but at least the Kinect lacks need for controllers, which actually means lazy developing is harder to do when you have to be sure the body of the player can at least control the game. Sonic Free Riders was a terrible game, but it is part of a minority of bad examples of Kinect games.

Nintendo should think about how well the idea of each console they make goes for the developers, and how to make a natural quality control when they are working on a console.

An internet comedian can get money from being a Youtube partner, but they won't be making enough to live off of by just making videos. They have to find other jobs often times. Nintendo will die as a console maker if the only thing worth getting their consoles for anymore is their in house products. That's how Sega started to become a bad omen to third parties. Sega made great consoles, and I believe the Sega CD and 32X were great if you looked at the games they had, not the concepts. They quickly began to crumble after the Genesis. Why? How many good third party made games were for their systems that weren't the Genesis?

Apply this to the Wii. How many good third party games can you find without digging through the mud for that system?

I might be ranting about something that is less common now with the Wii. Who knows. I have given up on following Nintendo games for the most part because I don't bother with the Wii, and I find Mario games a bit unappealing in most doses. I get bored of Zelda games easy, as well.

I really have to agree with the Sega statement.
They made great systems, but one of their biggest
downfalls was how fast they released the Dreamcast.
They didn't give any developers a chance to get to use the system that
long before they launched. They are now making games for all systems.
 As for Zelda and Mario, I believe that they can make a great Zelda games for
the current generation of systems if Nintendo was making games for all systems.
Mario I feel has run its course in the gaming world and that it is just a gimmick
for Nintendo to fall back on to make money.

I actually like Zelda being on the PC but all I want Nintendo to do now is to do something relating to Earthbound D:, my favorite Nintendo series .

I think it is high time Nintendo returns to their roots, and focus more on innovation...I mean their only real edges left are their few major franchises. I would like to see them explore other genres and whatnot a little more thoroughly, because I think Nintendo has been milking their star children for way too long now.

No I just think they should do some other thing rather then stick to one franchise.
