I am sick and tired of being summoned to the chat room to deal with people's drama.

There are features available to you in the chat room to ignore people you don't like or don't want to talk to. USE THEM! Ignore the people you don't want to talk to or don't want to see what they say. That is the correct course of action. Much better than arguing with them over something like which band you like or what color font is being used.


From this point forward if I get summoned to an argument going on in the chat I will mute/kick/ban the offending people. I don't care who started the argument. The fact that it's still going when I show up means you're both now at fault and I will punish everyone.

I hope I'm making myself clear. I don't know if the rest of the chat staff will follow suit, that's up them if they are in the chat room at the time that incidents occur, but if I get summoned to come deal with something you should expect punishment.

I completely agree without any hesitations or small disagrees. 

I think the chat really should be a fun place to chat in, have your fun, and find a quote-wall-worthy sentence to paste on your quote wall, not a bickering place where you say a word, then everyone's all over you, raging and all.

Definately agree with you 100% with this. Lately the chat has been really filled with drama and we nearly lost a user because of it. Peace is always the answer, the chat is not an angry house, its for friendly talk. Fun is always the answer. Love not war. (insert cheesy love and peace quote here)

oh, one other thing to add. There are like 6 rooms available to people but most congregate into one room.

USE THE OTHER ROOMS. You don't even have to talk on the room topic if no one in that rooms cares. Just use other rooms if there are people you want to avoid or conversations you don't like.

geeogree : I think this is very fair. If both parties are arguing, then both should be punished. Also, I think using the ignore feature is the best way to solve the problem too. If one person says something, ignore them instead of saying something back and keeping the argument going. I have been guilty of this in the past and I am going to try my best to use the ignore feature instead.

You should really get a break from going to the chat room

The thing is though that this plan will backfire and the users will create threads on being abused in chatroom by other members or staff. If it becomes a problem I would start enforcing forum bans from chat abusers so they cannot create threads about it on the board. Forum is the main attraction not the chatroom. Chances of people fighting are much higher in chat then on the board because people have less time to think about what they are doing before insulting others.

Well, I don't think I'm allowed to ignore people cuz I'm a mod. =P
But I try to encourage others in chat to use the ignore feature to deal with drama.

JigSaw : I disagree.... I've found that the times I kicked or muted both parties that people accepted the punishments far better than when one or the other were punished but not both.

People are more likely to complain if they feel that only they were targeted.

That makes sense.
I just simply stopped going to the chat room.. It's getting really annoying listening to people whine all the time.

I have never summoned you and I'm glad that I don't have to deal with other peoples issues when ever a problem arises and it probably is a real pain so I feel bad

I'm following suit.

If I get summoned to a chat room issue, and it's still going on when I arrive, I will kick everyone involved, and ask questions in private.

I'm not standing for chat drama.

The drama in the chat really sucks. I've seen it just yesterday in fact I left as soon as I saw it I just like to have fun and talk in chat not deal with this. I just want it to end and have the chat back to what it for.

One last thing to point out:

Just because you were involved in an incident with another user does NOT mean you are privy to the punishment the other person received. The moderators deal out punishment they feel fits the crime of each party. We probably get it wrong sometimes but we factor several things into our decision and make a choice. We're not perfect so we may over or under punish some people sometimes but in the end I think we've got a good idea of who are the problem users and who aren't.

Totally. Even I'm getting tired of it myself. It came to the point where I created a chat room and bring some people there to separate them from the bickering. People are too stubborn to use the ignore feature, because they want to win the argument. I've been muted once and I accepted my punishment like a adult. Most of them still bring up the subject. I don't want to use the ignore feature, but sometimes you got to do what you don't like to do.

I personally think it's getting worse an if it's not fighting it's the spamming noobs.there just can't be peace in the chat anymore.

Personally I think that the general chat is getting a lot of You tube video spamming and random post spamming. I think that it is a waste of time spamming in the chat room, you can't get much from spamming.

I like to abstain from the conversation with certain argumentative language. I recently have taken up the use of the ignore button, and frankly just leave the chat room seeing as it's either really bothersome to have to deal with that kind of stuff, or I just stay the underground room. I would say (long period of time) kicks are in order.

and THAT is another thing that many many many of the regulars could do. No one is obligated to use the general chat room. The underground chat room is exclusive to trusted members.... most spammers/flamers don't have access to it.

My general policy is to sit and watch for a minute or so. I don't have the logs of who started the fight so I pay attention to who is causing the most trouble at that moment. I will Kick whoever that person is. Unless what's going on is really ugly (massive swearing/spamming or posting links to inappropriate sites), I won't ban until I see the logs.

My bottom line is the same as geeo. I don't care who started it. The current troublemakers get punished.
