Just got home from seeing it at the drive-in. It was interesting, and I thought it was a nice movie... though as usually they did deviate from the book in... interesting ways.

For those of you who have seen it, what are your thoughts? Both on the movie and the end of the franchise.

Oh... and on the effects for the end of the film. I think they could have done a better job.

I am going to see it tomorrow but I do have a question for you as you have already seen it, do you think it should have been split into two movies? Seemed a little much in my opinion considering the first deathly hollows seemed a little bit empty...

Before this conversation continues, I haven't seen it yet. So I appreciate using spoiler tags, as will anyone who has yet to see it.

Anyway...

My girlfriend said it was amazing... but sad.

billythekidmonster : I thought it was a good move to split it into two, but I think they did it poorly. Honestly I think that the sixth one should have been split as well just because of how much they cut out. I know a lot of fans of the books feel the same.

Spoiler:
The scenes with Snape are indeed sad... not as well done as in the books, but honestly my favorite moment of the film

Elara : How straight did they stay with the books? Did they stay pretty much exactly the same or did they do what they did with the first one and just go their own way? I have heard a lot of people saying that they took too many creative freedoms with this one.

billythekidmonster : For the sake of people that haven't seen it, I will put this is spoiler tags. Be warned that I write with assumption that you've read the book.

Spoiler:
They took A LOT of freedom with this one. The whole Battle of Hogwarts is different... they got essential plot points and changed almost everything else. Neville is still a badass, but they drug that out in a strange way too. The Gringott's robbery is pretty accurate to the book though, not 100% but I would say 95%. As usual there are a lot of references to things cut out, like Lupin's son being mentioned once after they die but never seen, no mention before, none of Harry being his godfather, etc. Percy isn't in the movie at all. I really felt that those two things cheapened the major deaths.

I have not seen it. My fiancée went to the midnight opening with a friend, which made me sad because I wanted to go. Hopefully, she will be willing to go again. Otherwise, I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD because I feel lame going alone. But she said it was really good. She also said the same thing as Elara. She thought the ending was weird, but that doesn't say much because the ending to the book was a little weird anyway. I didn't ask if they put the epilogue chapter in the movie (I hope not since I think that chapter should not have existed with how cheesy it was). If I hear by others that it is really good, I might consider going alone despite feeling lame.

if its anything like part 1
iv got 0 interest in
seeing it,it was so
different from the book
and as a friend put it
"most of the film seemed
like an advert for british
tourism"
There are economic
benefits though,most harry
potter scenes are shot in
scotland and jk lives here
so major tourism bucks
but personly,i was
disapointed in the movies.
i really like the
philosophers/sorceres
stone and the half blood
prince but the rest i was
less than fond of,the
books were better
(in my opinion)

rcarter2 : The epilogue is the weird part I was referring to. I think they did the aging poorly.

thenumberone : You actually liked HBP? I wanted to scream after seeing that one. Honestly, this one was better than the last one because all the action happens in this one... but they did cut/change a lot of things. It was worth it for the Snape scenes, though. That part was well done, even if it wasn't 100% like the book.

thenumberone : I can see that. The scene with Bellatrix in the field was rather funny in its absurdity, despite how much it made me want to scream inside (Christmas time my ass).

I haven't seen it yet, but when I get the chance, I will go and see it for myself. I got a feeling that its going to be pretty cool in my part.

What I really love are the books, no movie will ever compare to them so I don't expect them to. I didn't go into it having high expectations, I just wanted to share the moment of the series "ending" with my best friend... My mind wasn't blown, but I did like it a lot.

Ok I have seen the film now and I loved it. I thought that it was the best film of the series. I am sad that it is all over but it is ok.

They split this book into 2 for money. They should have split the 4th book into 2. I'm still buying the DVD and watching the series as a whole on Christmas but I felt let down by the movies. I understand they couldn't put everything from the book into the movie and that they had to change certain things. Nevertheless, I think they did a poor job on it. It felt very rushed with no emotion.

I was impressed overall by this movie. Of course it's not going to be a perfect representation of the book.... they "hollywood-ize" every book to movie ever done.

I did think overall it was well done though. I feel satisfied by the overall series. I like how this one ended and am happy about it.

Elara : yeah, the aging at the end wasn't great but really.... trying to make a bunch of people in their early 20's look like they are 35 isn't exactly easy to do.... it's a hard transition. It would probably have been easier to make them look 50 than 35....

My impression was "meh" when I watched it. I liked how they did the battle of Hogwarts, to a degree, but what I disliked was how they handled Harry acquiring the memory, the memory scenes themselves felt rushed, and how Harry interacted with those around him when going into the woods. I felt for these scenes he should have been truly alone, and the memory scenes should have been well done...I also disliked the final fight between Harry and Voldemort, because I felt that was one scene that should have been true to the book, and should have had that build-up with the talk between the two in front of all the people just watching in anticipation.

As for the aging part, the mental thing is that that scene was actually one of the first filmed, so it should have been a little more refined, and it felt very rushed and tacted on.

Overall it was alright, but they missed some very key facts that made certain scenes pretty pointless (like mentioning Remus' son  towards the end but ignoring him even having one until then).

I laughed at the end, seeing all four supposedly grown up. There's a limit to what special effects can do. I'm surprised JK allowed this script to go through with some of the main points missing. It's those small details that make a story work.

Hopefully, no one would try to remake this in the future. I think not since J.K. and many fans won't allow it. lol.

I expected the end to be better too. Plus did anyone else think the movie was too short? They even left out so man details out in the book. They only mentioned one of Harry's kids names Not even Ron and Hermoinies . And you could tell they rushed Snape out of that movie as fast as they could. And Harry never even got his wand fixed with the elder wand and now he has Dracos wand

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
