John Titor was a man on the internet that posted about being an apparent time traveler from the year 2036. He posted about weird stuff on the internet in 2000 and 2001, and it was all really strange.

I don't have the actual article link, because my brother just copy and pasted me the text, but I'll paste what he gave me in this thread down below:

John Titor is the name that was used on several Internet bulletin boards
during 2000 and 2001 by a person claiming to be a time traveler from the
year 2036. In these posts, numerous predictions were made about
occurrences in the near future, starting with events in 2004. The person
described a drastically changed future in which the United States had broken
into five smaller regions, the environment and infrastructure had been
devastated by a nuclear attack, and most other world powers had been
destroyed. The first post appeared on the Time Travel Institute forums on
November 2, 2000, under the name TimeTravel_0.

The original posts discussed time travel in general, the first one being a "six
part" description of what a time machine would need to work and responses
to questions about how such a machine would be created. The information
was extremely accurate and was written by someone familiar with scientific
theory. The time machine was described as a "stationary mass, temporal
displacement unit powered by two top-spin, dual positive singularities,”
producing a "standard off-set Tipler sinusoid.”

Other posts were even more specific, indicating that the time machine held
two magnetic housing units for the dual micro singularities, an electron
injection manifold to alter mass and gravity micro singularities, a cooling and
X-ray venting system, gravity sensors, four main cesium clocks, and three
main computer units.Claims were made that the "Everett-Wheeler model of
quantum physics" was correct. This model, better known as the many-
worlds interpretation, states that every possible outcome of a quantum
decision actually occurs in a separate universe.

The name "John Titor" was not introduced until January 2001, when
TimeTravel_0 began posting at the Art Bell BBS Forums. He began
answering questions and started to reveal a more complex picture of his
future. He sometimes talked about current events; for instance, in an early
post John Titor stated that "The breakthrough that will allow for time travel
technology will occur within a year or so (2001) when CERN brings their
larger facility online.”CERN is also known as the European Organization
for Nuclear Research, the world's largest particle physics laboratory .The
Titor posts ended in late March of 2001. Eventually, a number of his threads
became corrupted, but many of the posts had been saved on subscribers'
hard drives and were copied to various websites.

In his online postings, John Titor claimed to be an American soldier from the
year 2036, based in Hillsborough County, Florida, who was assigned to a
governmental time-travel project. Purportedly, Titor had been sent back to
1975 to retrieve an IBM 5100 computer which he said was needed to
"debug" various legacy computer programs in 2036. This is a clear
reference to the UNIX 2038 timeout error. In the year 2038, a problem
similar to the Y2K bug may cause some computer software to fail.
The problem affects all software and systems that store time as a signed 32-
bit integer, and interprets the number of seconds since Thursday, January 1,
1970.  The latest time that can be represented this way is 03:14:07 on
Tuesday, January 19, 2038. Time beyond this moment will "wrap around"
and be stored internally as a negative number, which these systems will
interpret as a date in 1901 rather than 2038.

Titor claimed to be on a stopover in the year 2000 for "personal reasons,” to
collect pictures lost in the (future) civil war and to visit his family. He was
also trying to alert anyone who would listen about the threat of Creutzfeldt-
Jakob (mad cow) Disease spreading through beef products and about the
possibility of civil war within the United States.Titor also expressed an
interest in unexplained mysteries such as UFOs. The most immediate of
Titor's predictions was of an upcoming civil war in the United States having
to do with "order and rights.” He described it as beginning in 2004, with civil
unrest surrounding the United States presidential election.

Titor claimed that as a 13-year old, in 2011, he fought with the "Fighting
Diamondbacks", a shotgun infantry unit of Florida, for at least four years.
According to his claims, as a result of the war, the United States splits into
five regions based on various factors and differing military objectives.
According to Titor, this civil war will end in 2015 with a brief, but intense,
World War III. “In 2015, Russia launches a nuclear strike against the major
cities in the United States, China, and Europe. The United States counter
attacks. The U.S. cities are destroyed along with the American Federal
Empire. The European Union and China were also destroyed.”

Titor refers to the exchange as "N Day.”Washington D.C. and Jacksonville,
Florida are specifically mentioned as being hit. After the war, Omaha,
Nebraska is the nation's new capital city. He is vague as to the exact
motivations and causes for World War III. At one point he characterized
hostilities as being led by "border clashes and overpopulation,” but also
points to the present conflict between Arabs and Jews as a harbinger of
World War III. His assertion that CERN would discover the basis for time
travel with the creation of miniature black holes about half a year after his
departure did not occur and has never been reported.

Civil war was not even remotely close to breaking out after the 2004
presidential election, with no further conflict in 2008 in the way Titor
described. Titor also claimed that there would be no international Olympic
Games after 2004, which is clearly not true. He claimed that he was sent
back to obtain an IBM 5100 because it could translate several types of
computer code. According to IBM engineer Bob Dubke, Titor's statements
regarding the IBM 5100's little-known ability to emulate and debug mainframe
systems were correct. This information was not publicly available in 2000 or
2001 when Titor made his declaration. The true identity of John Titor
remains a mystery.

What do you guys think? I'm not sure if I believe on the entire thing (actually a don't), but it is weird. He did predict some things accurately, albeit a little off. Somethings he got wrong, but you can't just say it's fake merely because he got things wrong. That, and the way the time traveling works sound sort of... logical?

Or, this could be a guy from 2000-2001 trolling people. That too is a possibility.

I do not believe any of it. Unless he is Micheal J. Fox and he went and met doc brown this is not legit. Mainly because right now and I would assume in that year time travel is impossible...

billythekidmonster :

But that's where his whole theory comes into play.

To put it more descriptively, our time line is made out of seperate mini universes. Each little universe follows a line. Which something changes, we change course a little bit, and go off into a little line.

Assuming this was real, and he went back in time such as the article is about... If he went forward in time again, by that time, his old timeline would be absolutely changed and would have veered off a completely different "line". Essentially, this means that there is an unlimited amount of different timelines, as there are several different little universes that are just slightly different from each other. These itself are different time-lines-. Each timeline is constantly separating off into very slightly different scenario's based on percentages. The larger percentage that is changed, the more it veers off.

It brings a whole new meaning to the classic saying: The future is always changing.

my guess is that he got more wrong than right.

We're half way through 2011 and there has been no civil war in the US yet. The last paragraph of the article also how other predictions of his were wrong.

IF it's true (and that's a big if) you run the risk of changing the course of history by interacting with it at all. If what he claims is true then by talking about it at all on the inernet he has actually erased his future and created a new course for our reality. The reality he came from would no longer be possible from where we are now.

Makes your head kind of spon trying to think about it.

Well if the future is always changing then what is holding the past in place? With his theory and others like it there is the small loop hole that you could change the past that changes the future that makes a new mini-verse. So what would happen if they killed the person who made the time machine? For more on that paradox look up grandfather paradox.

I think it's less that the future is always changing and more that there are an infinite number of possible futures from now. Every choice that is made by you and everyone else creates a new possible future.

To travel back in time means moving back on the path of your timeline.... if you change the past of your timeline you effectively have cut off your "current" time from the past.

And yeah, if you go back in time and kill your own parent/grandparent then you should cease to exist. Although that's not the only paradox of time travel. You could go into the past and change the order of your life to the degree that you become uninvolved with the program that sent you back in time in the first place or like you said, what if they killed the person (or parent of) the person who creates the time machine.

Or, what if you don't go back in time very far and you meet yourself time traveling and maybe you kill your past self and take over your current life? You would be older than you were when you went through time meaning that your future self coming back through time should get older and older and eventually you would become so old that you wouldn't actually come back through time because you died before you got to the time machine and therefore you wouldn't go back through time and kill yourself and take over..... I'm confused

geeogree :

Going back in time itself, if you did that, you would alter the "time line pathing" of the current timeline. That is why I previously said that by going back in time, he has altered his timeline.

He was wrong about several things, but he was right about the miniature black hole experiment. He was off by a couple of years but it did happen.

The article actually doesn't go in much detail, but I'd suggest try looking some of his posts up. They were saved by many people so they are still on the internet somewhere. When you read how he explains it, it's scary because it actually makes perfect logical sense. I haven't even scratched the surface of how complex it is, but you should be able to understand the gist of how he explains the time traveling method.

Vincent Swiftstrike :
I don't think he got the black hole experiment right.
CERN is based on all sorts of advanced scientific explorations and discovery.  It's like me saying, "The U.S. government will develop a new weapon system in 2012 and it will be incredible."

It's incredibly broad and easy to guess that a group like CERN will do something.  You may as well say the Red Sox will make the play-offs in the next few years.

I watch way to many Wormhole shows on the Science Channels...

According to the many worlds theory, there are infinite universes each with infinite choices based on other choices. If you were to point a gun to your head and pull the trigger, in many of the universes it would fire and you would die. But in some, the gun jams and you live. And maybe, who knows, a monkey falls from the sky and knocks the gun out of your hands. Any possible outcome has it's own dimension, and any dimension will split into billions of more choices, over and over again. This man mentions a Civil War that should be occurring right now, and it probably is in another dimension. Which would make his time-travel trans-dimensional. Makes you dizzy, eh?

At least in another dimension, the capital is finally in it's rightful place.
Nice shoutout to Nebraska. I'm probably President in one dimension.

This reminds of the other man who predicted many on coming events who lived like in the 20th century I think, or maybe it was of those ancient or AD philosophers who accurately, albeit a little off by date and detail (but still in a general sense) *only* major events that did occur later on in history up until the new millennium. I don't believe most of it, but what Tj said makes a good point.

Honesty it sounds like a physics student decided to mess with people.

UserMike : Edgar Cayce or Nostradamus? Neither was a philosopher. Cayce was never very accurate, unless the event was obvious. Nostradamus gave no dates, and people only ever pair his quatrains with events after the fact... they are so vague you can fit them to any big disaster.

tj4bigred : You are probably right, Mr. President.

DARKANINE :

It's not made up. The guy's posts are still saved and is widely distributed on the net. "John Titor" may not be an actual real person per'se, and could just be a fake name somebody made up. But all these things did actually happen in the year 2000-2001. Someone made these posts. This isn't like a creepy pasta where the events COULD have happened. This DID happen.

EDIT: I found a good spot where it shows John Titor's posts and answering people's questions: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread61544/pg1

This used to be known as the Many-worlds interpretation. It means that everything that could happen has happened in another universe. Say that you got to a crosswalk and decided to go left. In another universe you went right. Some universes exist with you hale and healthy but others exist were you were never born.

Elara : people have analyzed the posts and the sources of the posts and the people who replied to him apparently were in on it. Not everyone but enough people were in on it so they steered the story along with him...

Look up the guys name and at least 2 or 3 of the results on google will automatically pick as hoax or fraud.

As Monarch of World 876551493573249867137713546278587458 I think this man should be taken with a grain of salt. The other future seers, like the man who predicted the Rapture(wrong) and Nicolas Cage(in Knowing), shouldn't be taken seriously because of the many worlds theories.

How to put it?

If Barack Obama told everyone the world were to end, in 2015, not many people would pay much attention. But enough people in the US would say, "Our President is probably right!", and would make choices, tiny insignificant choices, but choices that alter the future, nonetheless. The future world, now altered, may not end do to changes made. Sorry if I'm having trouble getting this across.

Whatever, just ask Morgan Freeman what he thinks.
