I just wanted to ask what everyone thinks makes certain people act the way they do. Why do they bully others? Why do they hate on other people? Why do they react to certain situations the way they do? Any opinions?

There's always a reason behind our actions and the way we carry ourselves. It has to do with the way people are disciplined and brought up in their childhood.

For instance, most bullies are insecure and were picked on most of their lives at home and/or in school so in order for them to feel better about themselves, they belittle people...as they were their whole lives. It's an inferiority complex...

I was raised fairly well, and I love my parents for that. I was always taught to treat others how I want to be treated and that saying stuck with me my entire life.

YourMajestyKen : That's a good saying, unfortunately most people don't treat others how they want to be treated. Something I never quite understood.

I cannot speak for any other people in the world but what makes me tick is pretty simple.

I'm motivated by doing things to make others happy. About 90% of my actions are meant to get a smile out of my wife. She does not often share the same sense of humor so this backfires on me more often than not.

I try still yet because when she does smile, it makes my world brighter.

That's pretty much my motivation for doing stuff. I exercise and work out because I feel good and I want to look for her. I cook food and I try new things to try and feed her tasty stuff.

Before I met her? I dunno, I did things because I had fun. I do the same now but I have the added incentive of my wife having fun.

That's what makes me tick.

As for others? Who can answer? I think we all do things so we can be accepted in social circles. Humans are hugely social as a species and being accepted is an important thing. That's why more people are afraid of public speaking than death. You may get rejected by others if you speak in public. That's the worst thing because our history suggests being kicked out of groups means you don't make it in life.

warmaker : Too bad more people didn't have more of a positive intent like you do. I was referring to what makes people mistreat others. But it's good to know there are people like you in the world.

I think the same theory applies to mean people. People bully and mistreat others to gain respect and acceptance by fear. Perhaps when others are afraid of the bullies, they're simply acknowledging the bullies. A bully now feels like he or she has something going on in their life.

I think bullies learn that people react to violence and that is one way to be recognized as a person; they now feel like they're a part of something. It's not a good thing. We can all be friends and at least respect the differences between people but it's easier to get reactions by using force.

Again, I can't speak for others. This is what I think may be going on. I'm no Dr. Phil.


I think people hate other because they don't understand other cultures. People who don't know about something are afraid of it because they have no idea what's going on. They lose power over a situation when they're afraid. That fear manifests into hatred or anger because anger is powerful. They feel like they're in control again.

Education is the silver bullet. If we all learned about each other and accepted multiple viewpoints, we'd get along.

But we won't and we won't. It's too bad.

People mistreat others cause they can its as simple as that. Either your nice and people take advantage of you or you're mean and you take advantage of others. Most people lean on the taking advantage part because you get more out of it. Girls dont like nice guys or nice guys finish last; there is a reason for that its your job to find out who is screwing who and for what. Some people like to be controlled and others dont that is how the world works and that is what leads people to being mistreated.

Its sad really to know that people are somehow at one end of this battle. Either being mistreated, or mistreating others. I wish we all could just love one another more.

I can't say i can speak for the bullies, as i was always the one being bullied, i would never bring that feeling down upon someone else. However i think bullies act the way they do because, they have no sense of Morale Conscience.

I think it all comes down to ignorance, as warmaker alluded. Most people who do not understand other people culturally, personally, mentally, etc. often fear them. In the wise words of Yoda: "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering".

The environment as well as the upbringing of a person definitely has an influence in how they interact with others. A harsh environment coupled with a lack of direction (no parental or guardian figure to follow OR a bad parental figure to lead them down the wrong path) usually creates the type of person that will be more aggressive and more likely to treat others badly.

There are many theories of what encourages others to act immorally, however, I believe that everyone is born with a set of morals. No matter where you go, murder, theft, rape, are all seen as crimes.

I tend to get ticked off by many things such as when people disrespect art, baseball, group(s) of people based upon their nationality, sexual preference, etc. though, I usually contain my frustration or try to let it out in a constructive way.

I was at one time not happy with myself. For a long time I didn't have any self-esteem and I just didn't like myself. Then one day it hit me. This is not the person that I want to be. I began to try to change for the better. I haven't stopped. I try to have an open mind, be kind to others, help people when they need help, be kinder to myself, etc.

I changed. That is why I try to respect everyone, even those who are mean to me. Sometimes they just need some help.
