LaVeyan Satanism-Satanists do not believe in the supernatural, in neither God nor the Devil. To the Satanist, he is his own God. Satan is a symbol of Man living as his prideful, carnal nature dictates. The reality behind Satan is simply the dark evolutionary force of entropy that permeates all of nature and provides the drive for survival and propagation inherent in all living things. Satan is not a conscious entity to be worshipped, rather a reservoir of power inside each human to be tapped at will. Thus any concept of sacrifice is rejected as a Christian aberration—in Satanism there’s no deity to which one can sacrifice-to quote Anton LaVey

Scarecrowcalls : I know, but listing your religion is essentially listing your beliefs. I guess they differ in that this one will allow people to debate, while the other is just asking a question. So I brought it to the attention of the Local mods for this forum, they can decide if it is too similar.

They are similar but as long as this one is about discussing your religion instead of simply stating it then it's fine by me. However, I changed the title of the thread to reflect this. Good enough for ya?

I'll kick it off:

I have a religion that is mix of fatalism, hedonism, and asceticism. I believe that I should simultaneously enjoy all life has to offer and do everything for pleasure while I exercise complete restraint from any and every temptation.

While that is happening, I'm fated to do what I do anyway so none of it matters. If I experience life or death on any given day, that is my fate and I accept what comes my way.

I like to cover my bases. It's like the book "A Separate Peace" where the one character doesn't believe in God but prays every night just in case there is one.

Surprisingly, it works well for me. I'm a happy person.

Cyro Xero : Better. Sorry to seem like a nitpick, but you know... There is no reason to have two threads the same. ^.^

As for my beliefs, they are too complicated and varied to post here in too much detail. In brief...
I am a Pantheist: Nature/Universe are the same concept as "god". I do believe in a higher power, but not in a personal or creator deity.
I am a Wiccan: A highly eclectic, Earth-based shamanic religion. Nature, spiritual growth/enlightenment, balance and positivity are most important to me. I attune to the natural cycles and balance of nature through various methods, including by celebrating traditional Wiccan holidays that are timed in accordance with the changing of the seasons/tilt of the Earth. I believe everything is connected; the power and bounty of the Universes is manifested in all forms of life. All life is sacred and important. I celebrate life as much as possible, and I know I am extremely blessed to have everything I have. I am extremely thankful.
I practice European shamansim (also known as Witchcraft): Channeling will and personal power bring about needed & positive change in my life. Usually through ritual practice, which includes meditation, chanting, and other changed states of mind; and using certain spiritual tools such as incense and an altar.

That is just a brief overlook of my most basic/important beliefs. I do not believe my personal path is the "right path" for all humans on Earth, it just one of many ways. For this reason I am not really prepared to debate with people about it, it's just a combination of everything that is important to me and what brings me true happiness.

Annette summed up the bulk of my beliefs when she described her own, as I follow a similar path. The only real difference is that I am also influenced by Discordian philosophy, which is rather difficult to explain... it encourages not taking life so seriously that you don't get to enjoy it, as well as the knowledge that just because you perceive reality one way does not mean that is the only way (i.e. cultural paradigms vary). Also, the numbers 5 and 23 show up everywhere. More info can be found here though I will make the disclaimer that to one degree or another Discordianism is considered a joke religion... I mean, it was created by a couple of stoners in a bowling alley in the 1960s... but it does have a lot of very interesting philosophical views that really are not all that crazy.

I grew up going to Baptist churches, various ones over the years. Some lasted 45 minutes, others I went to lasted more than 3 hours. Not once was I interested in any of it, except maybe reading the Book of Revelations. I guess you could say I come from a Baptist background, but I'm not religious at all. My beliefs lie in what's in the physical universe. What we can see or what is observable. I don't believe in a higher being or anything. If I could describe that as a religion it would be waking up every day hoping to hear about a new and interesting discovery.

I guess Atheist is what I am, but because I was brought up going to church for so long, I haven't exactly let go religious beliefs completely. However, with every day that passes those beliefs are fading.

I am an ex-Anglican and practicing atheist . As atheism is not technically a religion, I'll talk briefly about Anglicanism. Anglicanism is a form of Christianity that originated in England as early as the fourth century. As this Anglican website I'm on states:

"Anglicanism is not a faith. It is rather a simplified, purified and reformed expression of the Catholic faith, the ancient faith of the Apostles and the early Church. It omits nothing of the essentials – Biblical, Creedal, Sacramental or of Order."

That's all I really have to say about it.

"7) Religious topics. Since this is a debate forum and not a religion
forum it is requested that you refrain from posting religious topics in
this forum. You're more than welcome to post on a wide variety of topics
but if a topic becomes too "Religious vs. Non-religious" then the
thread will either be moved or scrapped.

While we are okay with
people expressing their opinions from their personal religious point of
view, you must accept that this is a debate forum and there are going to
be people who disagree with you and your "sources" (religious texts)"
Aren't we not suppose to have religious topics in this thread?
Well anyways, I am a Christian. I don't belong to a particular section but the church section I usually attend is the Church of Christ. They aren't really a section, but they just went ahead and gave themselves a name. The goal is to get as close as possible to the original  church that was made before all these sections came around which means that it's constantly changing and if we find out that we're doing something that the original church didn't do, then we'll stop doing what ever it was in order to better the church. That's why I like the church I go to so much. But I would also attend other Christian churches, though I'm not sure how I would feel about attending a church for Jehovah's Witnesses or a Catholic church. :/ But ultimately at the core, it is the same thing.

DarthDub : I was always under the impression that Mormons were Christians, since most Mormons I know have stated it repeatedly. I am curious as to why you say "similar to" as if it was not.

hackerman : A Shea Muslim? I had no idea we had any Muslim members at all. I've always been rather curious as to the differences between the sects of Islam. Would you be kind enough to tell us?

hackerman : I know the belief is the same. I also know that the Sunni and Shiite split was over who they felt the first Caliph should be (Ali or Abu Bakr) and that there are some basic differences in doctrine. I've just never had the chance to really talk to someone that knows more about it than I do from my anthropology and history classes. For example, I know a bit about the Qu'ran (in fact I think I have an English copy somewhere) but I know very little about the other books dealing with Islamic law aside from a few names.

DarthDub : To quote the dictionary, "Having a resemblance in appearance, character, or quantity, without being identical."

Ergo, saying "similar to Christianity" implies explicitly that it is like it, without being it. Therefore I am compelled to ask if you understand what similar means.

Also, you came across as very disrespectful.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
