Margoth : You hit the nail on the head with that one. Anyone realize that our enemies always get our weapon knowledge? So yup here is another weapon we have to fear!

The only thing this could be good for is disabling nukes in mid air and not letting them get to their destination. Imagin what we could do with lazers attatched to some satalites?

there are a few problems with this,
1:if you are firing from the ground(or a ship)you can only really use it on the sea or else youll blow up some poor persons house
2:even if you had it on top of a hill or on a ship, you would need a massive amount of energy to fire it far enough to hit a real target, such as in another country or a missile.
3:shooting a missile is fine and well but they move a lot faster than a stationary bobing boat, and if we're talking nukes here its a very bad idea to blow it up in the atmosphere, instead of 1 city you could cause the death of the planet.
4:the chanches of mounting it on a plain are slim, which makes the distance thing a hard problem to overcome, and even if you do get it on a plane its kinda pointless seeing as the planes already have missiles.

Great... another weapons made... I mean, i really don't like people to kill others... I know that we should be happy for Osmama to be dead, but he is a human being... we all are human being... I never wanted for any wars.. i just want a country or lands with wars free...

Actually, based on the research I did in ten minutes of internet searches, most agree that the laser and other weapons currently under development such as the electromagnetic railgun are drastically cheaper than the missiles we use now. Currently we use $15M missile to shoot down $5M ICBMs (intercontinental ballistic missiles). You know how much it is costing them to fire a shot from the prototype EM Railgun? $7. Because the electricity that the laser and railgun run on is cheaper than all the stuff that goes into the smart missiles, and they are faster to target and more accurate.

So while it is still valid to complain that we are still making weapons, and that war is bad... which is all true... feel better know that the research (that has been going on for years) is actually trying to make more cost-effective weapons.

I remember seeing this in school some day. What Elara said is rather interesting. Just goes to show that weapons are improving all the time for the better.

Though I guessing having no war at all would be better...
