I just figured as a big Tron fan that there should be a thread for discussing Tron, Tron: Betrayal, Tron: Evolution, Tron: Uprising, Tron: Legacy, and TR3N.

Oh yeah. If it weren't for Tron, we wouldn't have such great films as Avatar, or really any other effects-heavy film you can think of. Tron was the first movie to extensively use CGI technology. Alot of people say, when making arguments of why "Tron" was better than "Tron: Legacy", that Tron was better because it was a pioneer in the computer graphics industry. Now, Tron: Legacy did pioneer the "digital de-aging" effect (used on Jeff Bridges for his role as CLU) but it has been used in other films before, such as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

Tron suffers from a lack of storytelling/character development, however it will still remain one of my most favorite films of all time.

I just saw Tron finally, and it was a very interesting movie... though very 80s. I have not seen Tron: Legacy yet, since I wanted to watch the original first... what are the others that you mention? I have not heard of them.

Well, there's a graphic novel called "Tron: Betrayal" which is what happens right after "Tron", then, after that, there's a video game series called "Tron: Evolution" and after that, is a new TV show coming soon to "Disney XD" called "Tron: Uprising".

Aside from that, there's also a whole continuity of Tron that's set in an alternate universe, containing "Tron 2.0" a direct video-game sequel to "Tron", followed by another video game called "Tron 2.0: Killer App" and a graphic novel called "TRON: The Ghost In The Machine". All of which has come out within the last decade.

OK as a huge Tron original fan.. I have been putting off seeing Tron: Legacy for a long time!!

I have heard so many mixed reviews I am not sure what to believe anymore!!
What would those who have seen both suggest??
Is legacy a complete destruction of the original Tron concept or a great (dare I say "much needed") revamp??

Special fx aside, as I hear that they are great in legacy, I just want to know if I will come out unscathed if I was to see Tron: Legacy??

i watched Tron Legacy before going back and watching the original/first Tron movie, and it only made it seem like it was like it had gaps in the story, (since I believe they are part of the same story right? feel free to confirm this for me in ur reply) but it its more of an action movie with less plot to me. i did like the original and Legacy. I hope they develop the plot more in the sequel to Legacy.

I only watched Tron: Legacy but I think it's a great movie. And from the start of the movie I thought Sam's Dad looked like a video game character but turns out the face is actually fake

UserMike : I understand about the whole "gaps in the plot" thing. After seeing Tron, and subsequently, Tron: Legacy, I felt the same way. Luckily, Disney has spawned a plethora of material to fill in the 30-year gap between Tron and Tron: Legacy. If you're looking to get the whole story, this is how to go about doing it:

Read the graphic novel "Tron: Betrayal". It picks up immediately after the end of Tron, and ends in 1983.

Then, play the Nintendo DS version of "Tron: Evolution" which takes place prominently in 1985.

Next up is the Wii videogame "Tron Evolution: Battle Grids" which takes place in 1988.

Next is the PSP version of "Tron: Evolution" which takes place in 1989.

Then is the core (Xbox 360, PC, PS3) version of "Tron: Evolution" which is what most people are reffering to when they say "Tron: Evolution", which actually takes place over a 10 year span of 1990 to 2000.

Then, coming soon in 2012, you will see what happens after the year 2000 in the grid, set in a different city starring Beck,(played by Elijah Wood) as he is trained by Tron to be the next big security program as he creates an uprising in the grid. The main villain is one of CLU's henchman, known as General Tesler. This entry features a prominent cast, featuring Bruce Boxleitner, Elijah Wood, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen, Emmanuelle Chiriqui, and Paul Reubens. "Tron: Uprising" will start as a 10-episode miniseries broadcast in Fall 2011 on "Disny XD", and then will be picked up subsequently as a traditionally-formatted TV show in 2012.

So... yeah. Im a nerd

LemonFizz90: Hmm... I don't know. Most Tron fans were quite happy with Legacy, although alot of people whose first exposure to Tron was from Tron Legacy said the story lacked a well-written plot. So, basically, my suggestion for you would be to see Tron Legacy but be prepared for a barrage of plot-holes and badly-written dialogue.

However, a good thing to do is join with some Tron fans at the website Tron-Sector. The community over there is accurately debating and sort of coming up with explanations as to why certain things happened, and basically filling in said plot holes. I know, it's a big turn off to have to fill things in yourself, but when you get that oppurtunity, it really allows you to think outside the box.

I don't know. I loved Tron: Legacy, and personally, I don't really think that sequels can harm the wonderful memories of the original. Alot of people were worried about whether or not Legacy would step on the original and just, well, be really bad overall. I however think that no matter how bad Legacy can be interpreted, it shouldn't make a difference on what you think of the original.

Anyways, if you're worried that your not going to like it, then maybe you should instead go out and get a copy of "TRON 2.0", which is a non-canon direct sequel to Tron. It's very good, so you've got nothing to worry about in that department. It also has a videogame followup for GBA and Xbox (NOT 360) called "Tron 2.0: Killer App" and a 6-Part comic book miniseries called "TRON: The Ghost in the Machine" and while I haven't experienced them, I've not seen a single person who dislikes them. If it's really important that the sequel does the original justice.

If the shortcomings of the plot won't bother you, I reccomend you see Tron: Legacy just for the special effects and the action scenes. It really was quite a treat
