I believe that only God knows when the world will end.
But even to those without faith, another apocalypse scare should seem like total bull.
Seriously! How many times has the world been "promised" to end on a specific date?

I'm not the least bit worried about 2012.

The world won't end for billions of years and that's when the sun goes supernova.

Well, I don't exactly believe in the catalytic events, but I'm kinda hoping it could happen, because that'd be something!

The people on TV who spoke about 2012, Revelations, etc., had some good points, though, so...

No I don't and even scientists believe that now it was just the end of the Mayan calendar. I don't think they can know when the earth will end. I go with my religion and believe what it tells me. And just to let you know they also thought the world would end in 2000 and that was false and this is sated to be even more false than that.

I once read that between various organizations, religions, and cults (not to mention people like the may 2011 guy) the end of the world is predicted on average every 7 years. Sorry I cant remember where I read this and don't have a link for you guys.

As for the Mayan prophecy, it is actually not a prophecy at all. There is no record of Mayans predicting the end of the world. Like a previous poster said it is just the end of a cyclical calendar , and will end at the winter solstice on 2012(the solstice is the Mayan new year that's why they picked that date). What I do find very interesting is an ancient society's ability to create such a much more advanced calendar than we use today. Their calendar has days, months and years as well as a galactic year of sorts in which our sun/solar system move around the galaxy. Also their calendar was more precise as it didn't have leap years. There was 13 "hours" in a day and 13 "months" in a year.

Basically on December 12, 2012 the sun will have made a complete revolution around the center of our galaxy and  the cycle restart. I can't remember if it takes 72,000 earth years  or 52,000 earth years, regardless it is quite amazing an ancient civilization was able to create such a calendar.

thers been loads of these kinds of end of the world prediction and like everything i believe in cience the workld will end when the sun explodes or w/e the mayans just couldnt be bothered to make a calender that reaches the end of time because that would take quite a while which they could spend doing other thigns like hunting and gathering or building pyramids.. not being generic here my family if you think about it are probably decendants from the mayans (south american) but yeah in conclusion.. i definatley dont believe the end of the world will happen in 2012 i wouldnt mind a zombie invasion with like shaun of the dead zombeis though

I'm a celestial clockmaker theorist myself, but I also like to think there's a remote possibility we're just some science experiment being preformed by aliens (Hence why no intergalactic contact, you don't interfere with an experiment).  So my end of the world scenario is that our purpose for teh alienz gets served, and then they humanely destroy the planet because it's a big gassy ball that takes up a lot of space. 

I don't think that the Mayans could have predicted the end of the world, just because their calendar ends at 2012 doesn't mean that that's when the world ends. It's pretty simple, the Mayans didn't have a chance to finish their calendar because they were busy being wiped out by the Spaniards, so it's not that they purposely didn't finish the calendar because that's when they knew the world was going to end. They didn't finish the calendar because they never had the chance, BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL DEAD!!!

No, I do not believe in that 2012 Myan prediction. This is just another prediction that will skyrocket suicide rate just like it did when Y2K was the end of the world. Nothing will happen, just like The Rapture prediction. It won't happen. Garanteed.

I believe in the prophecy of revelations rather than the 2012 stuff. The reason is that there is more credibly in biblical prophesy as more of it has been and continues to be fulfilled.

In my opinion, people are scaring themselves, with myths and rumors. According to scientists, the world would end in about 5 billion years or so, that's when the sun runs out of fuel.

I agree that no body know when the world will end, or how it will end one day. I don't think that the universe is gonna disappear or anythin, just that mankind will eventually die out... Or something will happen to the planet like a Super Nova or something. But that won't happen for a LONG time so no worries, right?
Don't get me started on that Mayan bull crap.... And I don't even know what it says in Revelations, so I can't go there

...this stuff is funny to me; when it happens - then it happens, although I firmly believe the scenario in the book of Revelation, most people don't, so I think it will be a big shock to people... but we'll just have to wait and see, right?

Since I am a Christian, I believe that the end of the world will come with Revelations. I think that it will happen exactly as it happened in the bible. But the Revelations signals the rapturing of Christians to heaven and after the beast and the false prophet come to earth they kill the people who refuse to take the mark of the beast. Then after a time Jesus will come with his army to take out the devil and his followers followed by 1000 years of peace on earth (earth is still there) and then the devil gets 1 last chance to temp us before the judgement where everyone who's name isn't in the book of like goes to the lake of fire. And then A new civilization is started on earth if I'm correct. So I'm pretty sure that Earth is never actually destroyed, but the way of earth that we've come to know will come to an end. But I should definitely read Revelations again before I make a definite statement. So don't quote me on that.

I don't think that ANYONE knows when the world is going to end. People (like Harold Camping) have been trying to predict it for ages, and nothing's happened. Y2K never happened (and trust me, I was only eight then and was a little worried, myself). Most likely, it'll happen billions of years from now when the sun dies. If it DOES happen, it's not like the people who predicted it will be here to say, "I told you so." =| No, they'll be dead, too.

Just because 2012 happens to be the end of the Mayan calendar, doesn't mean it's literally the end of the world.
