I've purchased a new Chat Room for vizzed board, so much better than the old chat rooms. To access it, click the 'Chat Rooms' link from the top of the site. It was about $85 and I might get some additional plugins (which cost extra) so for those who plan to use it often and have money, show your thanks by donating

Features Included:
-Faster and runs better than the old chat room
-Users can adjust their font color and style
-Users can change their avatar which represents them in the chat room (I'll eventually allow users to add their own custom avatars)
-Shows who is in which chat room the right side
-You can exchange pictures and files with other users (do this only in the appropriate room and abuse will result into a ban)
-A roll dice feature which is nice for sim battles
-Lets you change your user status for people in all rooms to see
-Other various IRC Commands available
-You can block users who are annoying so that you don't have to see what they're saying
-Flood control and swear filters
-Users can vote to ban someone if there's no mods around (it takes 3 votes for someone to get banned)
-Transcript button allows you to see chat log
-32 Smilies to use
-Users show up as idle if they are inactive for 5 minutes and get booted after 15 minutes of inactivity
-Staff now have mod powers which allow them to ban users
-From user profiles, you can see how many hours each user has spent chatting in the chat rooms (it's right below the thread stats toward the top center of the page)
-Users can create their own rooms and also put passwords on them (rooms disappear after 60 seconds of inactivity)

This is a much improved chat. I love that we have the option to kick/ban, that will erase a TON of drama.

Another thing I like the ability to have is to vote to ban if no mods are around. However, I do have a question. Are you able to see what users voted for a ban?

Like just off the top of my head, what if Jordanv78 above was causing trouble in chat?

And if users abuse it just to ban someone they don't like (Even if they are obeying the rules) would you be able to find out and properly punish the offending banners?

legacyme3 : Yeah I can see who voted to ban someone and if they did it unfairly, I'd ban them from the chat room.

This is awesome. I've already logged several hours in there, thank you for spending the money to get this and thank you for spending all of your time modifying it.

I have one question though. When you are banned via the chat rooms, is that a total board ban (as in when you get your name crossed out and turned gray), or is it a chat room only ban? And how long do these bans last?

the_casualty : The chat bans are only for the chat room, usernames do not go gray and it lasts forever until a staff member unbans the user from the chat room.

Thanks so much, it truly is better. All of us appreciate the extra money spent toward the improvement of an already incredible site. Everyone's font choice is different so it is easy to distinguish who is talking, a great improvement. Love it!

It really does look a lot better. I like being able to adjust the font so messages don't all blend together. The filters will probably be nice when the time comes. The inactivity feature will be good. It gets a bit weird when someone is just watching the chat and not doing or saying anything. At least that's what it feels like, even if they just opened it and left.

There is one feature that stood out to me as a possible problem

This was denounced as a problem feature in an old thread about blocking posts by certain users in the forums. The general problem being something like this:

Person 1: My Pokémon game won't save.
Person 2: Use the Plugin to save...
Person 3: Try the plugin. That usually works for saving. To use it...

Person 3 blocked Person 2 and then repeated the post. On the Board this could become annoying if multiple people were saying the exact same thing. There could probably be some scenarios when this would happen in chat and start to bug some other people.

That's what I first thought of when I saw that feature. I think it was one of the Globals (maybe DH) who used that example in the thread I'm thinking of.

BNuge : Yeah it was me who was against the idea of blocking posts but to me it's a little different in the chat room but if people don't like that feature, I can see if I can remove it.

Tried the new chat room out last night... even though I'm not normally a chat room person (especially not when I could be working on the VCS), I enjoyed it a fair bit.

bigNATE : I'd much rather people post than chat, chatting doesn't really help vizzed out but posting definitely does (but for those who wouldn't or don't like to post anything, than the chat room is a great alternative to posting). I think I'm going to reduce the amount of time I spend in the chat room, since the new one has gone up, I've spent 15 hours and that's 15 hours I could've spent developing (I've never spent this much time in chat, I somehow got myself addicted lol).

The new Chat is great, much better than the old chat was. Keep up the good work David!
