My favorite is definitely Final Fantasy 7. I think it has a great story, great characters, and great music. You can’t really ask for anything more.

Final Fantasy VI has always been mine. In my opinion, Uematsu's best on the soundtrack. The characters you actually wanted to root for, a great storyline and to me, the best opening in an RPG.

What, no Final Fantasy Tactics love in this poll?
Although as much as I love that game I still haven't finished it...
It has one of my favorite stories and I'm a huge fan of tactics games so its right up my alley, though I would love if a remaster came out that fixed the graphical slow down (Which the PSP version made worse) and cut down on the grinding or add in side-quests that develop the world and side-stories to make the grinding more bearable like in Tactics Advance.
If we're going traditional Final Fantasy I'm kind of stuck between IX and X... I used to hold VII as my favorite but it really hasn't aged so well. At least that remake is coming up.

Final Fantasy 7 for me although I have played and enjoyed all the series up to 13 which for me lost the plot a bit. FF7 was the one that started off an addiction to the series and has to be number 1.

I think the best one is FF6. It has great story, beautiful graphics (one of the best on SNES) and really good music. Also FF6 is the first game, where main antagonist is not a super powerful monster. In FF6 main enemy is a ordinary human.

Easily FFIII

That was like the only one I played on the snes, and I had my fair shares of frustration and enjoyment from that game,
That music theme though was really the most memorable part for me and learning the dark vile plots that went ahead through within the story.

I guess this is a weird choice but Final Fantasy 4 for reasons. It has a surprisingly emotional story with characters die, you defeat the darkness, and whatnot. You also have a new battle mechanic from the last 3 FF games and stuff. Also, it's one of the games that you really want to progress through as well. So yeah, Final Fantasy 4 (SNES) is one of my favorites.

Final Fantasy IV was my favorite. There were three different worlds that you could travel to. My favorite dungeon in number four was the final one. There were so many floors in it that I had to keep warping back to the beginning of the dungeon, go outside of it and heal all of my characterI also enjoyed the leveling up of the main character, and also the re-leveling through the beginning point of the game.

Ha ha Final Fantasy VII by a LONG shot. The stories way better than the rest (even though I only played seven onwards) The characters are kick ass and just the basic way of setting up your characters..From Materia to armour & weapons you have total freedom in what you choose to do unlike its follow on's where it started to feel like dot to dot especially in ten.

Nah eight was biz, nine had its moments more due to the story than anything, ten I was really excited about but turned out to be a disappointment due to the whole spoon fed attitude to the first half/two thirds of the game, and then once your on the map your restricted to where you go....eleven never played even though it look promising, twelve crap, thirteen worse and that's where I'm upto...but final fantasy VII PS4!!!? Its going to be one of the best games of next year or this year whenever they decide to bring it out....

Let me start of by saying this, it was a hard choice between 7 and 10.While they are both amazing games, 10 has to be my favorite. I enjoyed everything about it. The story was amazing, the charters was great, I still think it has some of the greatest graphics, and Blitz ball was super fun to play. To be honest I can't find a thing wrong with this game, or 7 for that matter.

After a lot of  grinding and thinking I think VII and X are very close to each other in terms of play-ability. The rest after, and VIII are, in my opinion not very good at all.

Final Fantasy 7 for sure.

The materia system was by far my favorite of the franchise.
The character's really spoke to my heart and felt genuine for the world they lived in.
Cloud has by far the best back story of any main protagonist in the series.
The story was epic, not to mention all the little details throughout the game that tied together so well.
The main antagonists (Sephiroth, the Weapons, etc.) always gave you that feeling of "I have to kill
THAT?!?"

In summation, it's everything you could ever want in an RPG.
It's not one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time for no reason

I guess my favorite Final Fantasy Game would be Final Fantasy 13. It's my favorite Final Fantasy game by default and it's the only final Fantasy game i've played. With that said I enjoyed the game the graphics were simply breath taking like serious very beautiful scenery and design but atlas I didn't ever get to finish the game because I didn't know the game was a 3 part disc game and gamestop only sold me the game with disc 1 in it so I never got to see anything past the cut scene on the ship.

I've gotta say that my opinion of the Final Fantasy series changed with XV, as I believe it to be one of the coolest open world games that I've played. I haven't beaten in yet, but I think it's become my favorite modern Final Fantasy game. I still stand by my opinion that VI is the best, but XV is a close second due to it's imagination and length.

I think the only Final Fantasy game I've ever actually played was XIII-2. It was weird, and the boss fights were a little difficult for me.
That being said, I will probably pick up the 7 remake once it comes out.

I've been playing through a lot of XV and out of what I have played, it has become not only my favorite Final Fantasy, but also my favorite game of all time. I haven't played VII, though. Hopefully I can get VII when I get the funds for it. There's a lot of them that I haven't played, actually, so it may take time for me to actually get all of the main series games.

Now I get this thread is from 2004, hence no option for stuff like 13 and 15, but I'm actually liking 13, as weird as that may be. I enjoy linear progression in video games, it makes me feel like there's an actual progression instead of me going toward some random location in hopes that there will be something that advances the story. However, that's not to say I hate games like that. I enjoy stuff like FF4 and FF6 because of the fact that you can basically go wherever you want to, though I think 13 definitely is structurally sound and fun, despite the hatred it seems to garner from a lot of those who like the series as a whole.

I feel like how high FFVII is in this poll, proves the nostalgia driven choices people here make. I personally played through the entirety of it, but I don't think it compared well gameplay wise to FF IX. And I know VI is considered to be great. (Great villain.)

Is anyone not tired of Sephiroth at this point?
