No he meant after HTML. Just the way he listed it first was backwards If you make it the default. I remember making my main sites page index.html but wanted it .php, I had to make the .php one default with the dreamweaver setup.

Yeah some sites you can choose the order what file type gets called first. Than there's stuff like default.aspx for windows servers, seeing how Vizzed board is on a windows server I've played around with that stuff
(also i work with .aspx files at work with visual studio 2005).

Ah, i thought it was just a default webstandard unchangeable thing. In my experience a .html ran before a .php did (not meaning one after anohter, meaning only the .html one ran).

Yeah that's what I was saying is that .html ran before .php

Yes, that stuff is changeable on a server, of course you need your own windows server to change what gets called first, I've messed with this stuff before lol.

Warning: fread() [function.fread]: Length parameter must be greater than 0. in /home/domains/upload_progress.php on line 65

This is the error I'm getting while trying to upload to filesend so there's no way for me to edit there script But just wondering what the deal is cause I'm not able to upload anything.

Question:
Which would be better to make a site?
PHP or HTML?

(Or are they both combined into the same thing?)

Well PHP pages usually consist of HTML tags but there is a huge difference between making a website with PHP and making a website with HTML. I would pick PHP over a static HTML page any day because PHP is just better and easier in ever way. With PHP, you can create a footer, header and menu that appears on every page of the site so all you gotat do is edit one file to change the header and menu and footer of all the pages; this also applies to the site's layout. In just a static html site, if you wanted to change the menu, layout, footer, or header on all the pages of the site, you'd have to do it manually to every single page.

Can't think of any more examples but just know that PHP is way more flexible.

It depends on what the site is for. I don't think I've ever make a normal HTML site ever again mainly cause I like what PHP is able to do with css, saves time and makes updating a breeze! If you don't know PHP go with HTML first then when you want to venture further into PHP study it and use it to your advantage.

If your not good at math you probably won't be good at programming. I'm not sure, I've been studing it on and off for a few months and it's nothing easy that's for sure

Wait.. what does PHP do with CSS?

PHP is just to do more backend stuff, but the end result is your still writing stuff to the browser screen.. and the end product on the user end is just a html page.

I meant like header and footer files and making the site in all CSS/PHP. I think it works better and is more dynamic then using HTML/PHP. Basically they do the same except I like the CSS/PHP way a lot better.

Echoing or printing would be the PHP way. What's the difference between echo and print? They do the same thing dont they? Or is one better then the other?

echo is slightly faster, print returns 0. Apparntly a useless 0..
Theres a few things to do to make it faster, like drop out of php tags to directly print large blocks of html and stuff. Want me to keep going?

How do you make modules in PHP??? I tried looking all over and cant find anything on it. I know how modules are created like so: module ( ) , but are you allowed to make your own in PHP?

Would it make any logic to make a file for a database connection and then another file to close the connection and include the connect () at the beginning of the code you want inputted into a database and disconnect () at the end of it?

For example:

require ('connect.php');

$query = "INSERT INTO blahblah (test1) VALUES ('{$_POST['test1']}')";

require ('disconnect.php');

?>

ill repl when im not using onscreen keyboard

From what I can google, you can make modules.. I have no idea how to, or even what they are... Are they like classes?

It makes logical sense to me, and I do it (I think...) but after a quick google seems its not requierd.

If you are doing big querys, you might want to call mysql_free_result( [result] ); to free up memory for that query, but other then that, php will delete variables, and disconnect from mysql when the script ends. So dont bother.

I thought it was a security problem, but I guess not.

Sort of like how variables get deleted when the run out of scope. Follow?

I'm not sure modules would be considered classes; more like functions. For example these are modules:

stristr ( )
is_numeric( )
unset( )

So basically they are parts of a program and or functions of a program which do certain tasks. From what I can gather so far, PHP has tons of built in modules but as you said, how to create one is questionable.

The book for my class does not mention PHP anywhere in it all it talks about is C and C++ and VB so I assume that you can do that in those languages and that's maybe why they are considered more powerful then PHP.

Basically I was going to use them as a template so I don't have to go through all the pages to alter a script when I need to change something. I guess the require () module would make best use of this I'll probably end up doing it that way.

Since variables get deleted at end of each script I guess I will need to use cookies or sessions to pass those along? But yea now it makes sense, they would be bad for passing variables unless there are sessions or cookies involved. Thanks
