Super Mario World was the best 2D Mario.

Super Mario 64 was great, but I never finished it.

Super Mario Galaxy was challenging, but there was no Yoshi. The second playthrough was also pretty lame.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 was a bit easier, but they had Yoshi and I loved the Green Star Challenge. The Grandmaster Galaxy Prankster Comet was agonizing, but beating it was such a fun accomplishment.

And the winner is... Super Mario Galaxy 2!

It encompassed everything a good game has. The protagonist had lots of special abilities. His partner had a few fun abilities. The playthrough was actually different from the storyline. And getting to the very end was actually enjoyable.

BNuge : Wutzorz? Sunshine was THE best Mario game. How could it not be worth mentioning? Riding on Yoshi, spraying acid on stuff was awesome. And the music was the best in the series to me. I played through it, and is the closest Mario game to being perfect. Although SMB3 comes really close.

I left it out because of the storyline. The thing with Peach and her "son" Baby Bowser was good, but the concept was odd. Run around an island with a water pump strapped to your back so you can follow a court's order to clean the island. While you're at it, try to beat Bowser by squirting water at him. The final battle was nothing special either. Ground pound 5 times will dodging Bowser's attacks.

Yoshi was the only really great part of it, but he didn't change it much. You run faster, spray juice instead of water, and you can't use F.L.U.D.D. accessories.

Despite all of that, I did enjoy the game and I still know that F.L.U.D.D. stands for Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device. I should have included it. Galaxy 2 definitely still beats it though. Yoshi was 10x better in that game.

Personally my favorite would be Super Mario World. It had everything great about a Mario game. I remember being amazed when I saw it when the game was released. Super Mario 3 would be close behind, with Super Mario Land given an honorable mention. Super Mario Land really deserves more credit. It was a totally different experience, but it still had that mario goodness.
