This is actually the second Metroid game I've defeated. Didn't care for the password data save of the first one, so I got the Game Boy's Metroid II and beat that one in about two months, then I began to play Super Metroid once I moved back to Colorado. I had it beaten but it's been some time since I've played it; having difficulty finding the grappler beam.

If there's anyone that can help with that, please let me know. In the game, I am at the tunnel before the elevator connecting Brinstar with Norfair. (The one that has the entry way to Kraid's lair.)

This is just opinion of course, but I thought that Metroid III was the best of the Super Nintendo games to hit the shelves in several categories, including graphics, ending, and the challenge. I find it challenging to this very day, and thoroughly enjoy playing it.

They have made it a bit difficult in finding a few things, but this game has made my favorites list, and been in the top 5 thereof for at least 15 years.

This was one of the first titles I got for my Super Nintendo when I was a kid. It is definitely one of the best games made for the system, in my opinion. Even without any dialogue or text storytelling past the intro, you still know exactly what is going on when it is going on, as well as why it is going on. That is a very hard thing to do in a game when you don't use any text to progress the story. Nothing in this game feels random.

Anyway, RetroGamer. Since you made this thread in the discussion, do you think you can contribute to the discussion? Maybe talk about it a little bit? Why is it so great to you?

Metroid is such an awesome game! I've only played a couple Metroid games, but it's all I need to get hooked on it. x3

I love how there's so much to explore and such a large map to traverse. It may feel tedious at times, but trying to find everything there is to find is just so satisfying.

DigiXros1971 : The grappling hook is in Norfair. If you go into the main vertical shaft in Norfair and take the door that lead to the Ice Beam, at the end of that hallway, before entering the door at the end, place a Super Bomb near the door in that room. This will open up a path on the floor that will take you to a cave moving toward the left of the screen. Make sure you're running and you'll blast through several enemies before winding up in a vertical shaft with collapsing floor platforms. Fall all the way down, killing as many enemies as you can before you hit the bottom, then take the door to the right. There will be another hall way that you must run through, and then you'll come to a four way intersection.

To the left is the way you came from, I don't really remember what is through the top door, but I'm certain it's worth looking into. It's either a path back to Norfair's main area, or it leads to some missiles or something. Actually I think it's both. Back at the intersection, if you head right, I believe the next room is a save room. Beyond this you will need the grappling hook, so you must go down. Here you will fight Crocomire, which is, in my opinion, one of the scariest bosses in the game, but don't worry, he's super easy. Don't waste your missiles though, time it right and attack when his mouth is open with a few Super Missiles. You'll never kill him, so don't let your stock of missiles run out. When he shoots at you, be sure to destroy his orbs. As you hit him in the mouth, he'll back up, and your goal is to get him to back up into the acid at the end of the platform. When you do, you'll notice a curious bubbling coming up from the acid and moving to the left. To the right is a missile upgrade, but you'll need the grappling hook to get it.

Head left, and the door should still be sealed. As you keep going, you'll see a wall of spikes, but watch out! Crocomire will return and try to kill you, even though the acid has melted away all of his skin. He will not pose a threat though, as he soon dies on his own. However, he has opened up a new path for you. Follow this and it should lead you straight to the grappling hook!

Anyway, as you can tell... this is one of my favorite all time games!

This is one of my favorite games of all time. Everything is awesome in this game, and it's still an awesome experience to play it even after all these years. I've played through it so many times, I lost count...and I still am not sick of it.

If someone that's reading this thread hasn't checked out this game...drop everything and play it NOW!!!!1

Lazlo Falconi : Given that DigiXros said in his first post that he beat this game, he probably already found the grappling hook because you can't beat the game without it. Not sure the whole walkthrough was necessary

I'm not the biggest fan of Super Metroid, but it's still a pretty good game. It's always so satisfying defeating bosses and acquiring all the powerups. Many save states were used on this game though.

Lazlo Falconi : Haha. Oops. So I see. I missed that part of the post. Then I suppose it was necessary. I just had a noob moment there. I guess it really does happen to all of us.

One thing I associate with this game is having one of the most emotional endings ever as far as SNES games go. Just in case someone reads this who hasn't beaten it yet, I won't spoil. But what happens there was the first time an SNES game made a chill go down my spine and made me feel genuinely pissed off at that mother brain. I got a lot of satisfactions hearing that mother scream as I continuously blasted her over and over again

The following post may contain spoilers. You have been warned.

Spoiler:

rcarter2 : You're exactly right. Have you seen the intro video for Metroid: Other M? That video is EXACTLY what I saw in my head the first time I fought Mother Brain, and it quite accurately captures the emotional distress of seeing the baby metroid sacrifice itself for you, to fight against the Mother Brain, who by all means should be controlling the metroid. And to be given the ultimate power by it... What a beautiful ending!

Lazlo Falconi : That was pretty freaking epic. I have actually never played the newest Wii Metriod game. I assume from that intro scene, this game is kind of a direct sequel to the events of Super Metroid? If so, does it dive back into that story by expanding it further, or could the events of this game stand on it's own without knowing the events of Super Metroid (not including that intro scene. Of course you would have had to play Super Metroid to understand that)?

rcarter2 : Well, the game starts off directly after the events in Super Metroid, and there are a few call-backs to Super Metroid, such as Samus' fondness toward the baby metroid. It also effects Samus mentally, and she feels very distressed toward what she believes was a betrayal to the baby metroid. There are a few other minor things, but over all, anything that you need to know is explained in the game, so it does sit on it's own very well, but it also links into Super Metroid.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
