I don't think so. There's too much pollution in the world already so I think we've kind of screwed ourselves in this situation. What are your thoughts?

I don't think it is possible anymore, we have already crossed te point of no return. although we could easily decrease our imprint on the planet, everybody knows what will happen when the world runs out of resources, but nobody cares anymore since they think that it will not impact them in they're lifetime. I don't think a green world is possible at this point and that the only way to convince people that we are killing our planet is to wait until the worl turns to crap and they can see for themselves.

Best Keep your concience as clean as you can, or charma will come with a blade in it's hand. It will strike all those who seek to gain without giving, and spare all of those who are weak and forgiving.

I think not. We're basically too late, with all this pollution such as the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and factories and such. People in this world just don't care anymore, and they will only give a damn once they see everything truly fall apart.

Here's the thing..we're not actually trying to save the planet. Mama nature is one tough broad...this amazing little world has some pretty awesome tricks. Now, I'm a pretty Green guy, always have been. But I'm not buying into the whole gloom and doom scenario just yet. Oh yeah, you're probably wondering if we're NOT out to save the planet, what are we trying to save?

Ourselves. Believe me, we need earth a whole heck of a lot more than it needs us.

Just my two cents.

I'm positive that the world can be green; it just needs less people on it. As the poster before me stated, the Earth is strong. It is we, the human race, who will be in danger if anything drastic were to happen.

well, humanity used to be able to live in harmony with the planet.... or at least less disharmony

I think we have a consumption problem. We believe that we deserve to have so many more things that we truly need. There is so much waste and poor use of land and such that I think we could actually support the current population easily and even support more if we had to if we simply built smarter. But we've got this entitlement mentality that says that because one person has something the rest of us must have it too. That kind of thinking won't solve anything.

I think changes can be made to have a more green world, but on the flipside of that, the cost of living would go up dramatically, and many familys wouldn't be able to manage. Food will cost more, as will gas and clothing. We would have to find other types of material to make paper from, and our currency as well. So it's a two-sided choice. Live a less wealthy life for the better of the environment and make life harder (more expensive) for future generations, or keep on this path we're on now and possibly ruin the world for other generations to come?

Everything that is not Green in the world is more convenient. Until Green energy sources can completely outweigh sources that cause pollution, we can't be a green world.

It is possible if people cleaned up even one piece of garbage off the ground then that would be a huge step right there.

No, Because a 50% of the planet is water. Ok, just kidding... It's impossible, the people doesn't understand the fact that someday we will be doomed because of their Irresponsibility, But if we work together we can do a great work trying to keep it clean and Healthy.

I'm waiting for a virus, natural disaster or war to wipe the human race out, then once there are no human beings left, our civilizations will crumble with time and be overtaken by nature once again. Then the earth will be environmentally stable.

Annette : but the earth has never been stable.... it has gone through ice ages and droughts and mass extinctions that put what humans have done to shame.

I'm not condoning what we've done to the planet or our need to fix it but to think that humans are the worst thing to ever happen is a little egotistical The earth has always been changing and will continue to change.

It is POSSIBLE, but it won't happen with us. The only way that could happen is to completely redo everything we have. Convert every single thing into an environmentally friendly thing. Then, eventually, the plant life could clean the air after a few lifetimes. But since we keep killing plants, there goes that. The earth's capacity of human life was calculated, and if the population continues to increase along the same trend as it has been, the predicted population is supposed to reach that calculated capacity within 50 years. At that point, the earth will not have enough resources to sustain all human life.  When that happens, there is going to be a huge drop in the population for a few years while the planet rebuilds itself a little. If we work a way around that point (which is more than possible), something will happen eventually.

Annette : It's funny you posted what you posted. A few hours ago, I was sitting with my fiancee, and there was something about the dying planet, and she just said "we need another plague".
