I prefer Link to the Past.

I say Zelda II. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer Zelda II because of how much of a challenge it was. ALTTP was also a challenge, but not as much as Zelda II. I also found Zelda II's music more memorable for obvious reasons

Also, it was fun discovering pretty much anything in Zelda II. ALTTP had more items and such, but I'd rather waste time on Zelda II.

Link to the past is visually far better. Also the game play is way tighter and also it is just larger in play time and larger in awesomeness.

Link To The Past definitely. I've never been a fan of Zelda II.

zelda II was a great game but ALTTP was just awesome

i say Link to the Past only because i haven't played Zelda II. Plus, Link to the Past is challenging and i'm not saying that Zelda II isn't, i just haven't played it so i don't know if it's more challenging or not.

A Link to the Past was significantly better in my opinion. It felt like an actual adventure, not a Frankenstein of two different genres.

I played Zelda II for about ten minutes. It was ok. A Link to the Past is nowhere near my favourite in the franchise (probably around 4th), but it's much higher than Zelda II (currently last).

Link to the Past has the more recondnizable, Zelda 2 isnt really a Zelda game, kinda like Castlevania 2.

I haven't played Zelda II, but my brother owned LTTP from the very beginning. I love it, and in my opinion it's the classic Zelda game that you have to play to understand how strange and difficult Zelda is.
If you think about it, the first 3 games are sort of "linked" together. (Sorry for the unintended pun!) In the first game, you're looking for, what, the Triforce of Wisdom? You know Ganon has the Triforce of Power. Then in the second game, you're looking for the Triforce of Courage. We don't know what happens to the Triforce after Link uses it to wish Zelda awake. What if Ganon somehow got hold of all 3 pieces and then employed Agahnim to do his dirty work?
This is all in my mind, but I always thought it would be so fun if that were actually true. My suspicions were confirmed when I went into Ganon's secret room and saw the Triforce spinning there. Either way, LTTP rules.

A Link to the Past is better in my opinion and I've played both games. Zelda 2 isn't a bad game either it's actually very good 2d game.

I prefer Link to the Past because Zelda II was just extremely annoying. At least LLTP is like the original Zelda. 

Link To The Past set the bar in my opinion on what all Zelda Games should be like, as far as action and puzzles go on Portable Console Zelda games, as all Zelda games since then have been like Link To The Past, with the overhead view. Ocarina of Time seemed to set the bar for the rest of the consoles. So in my opinion, Link To The Past was much better. And in my opinion, is my 2nd favorite Zelda, next to Majora's Mask. And Zelda II can rot in flames for all I care.

I would choose Link To The Past.  It is just like Four Swords Adventure.

I am now casting the 20th vote for A Link to the Past, you can't beat that classic, and I hate Zelda 2. :/

I'm the 21st vote for ALTTP. It just had... more. That and the fact It has a better story. 

I think Zelda 2 was awesome, but the actual cartridge (no emulator save states) was a flop because you had to traverse through the whole game to get back to where you were after you died. It was still a good game because of this challenge (when I felt like picking it up and playing it again after the frustration subsided).

ALTTP was and is better IMO because of the graphics and game-play (minus the frustration of Z2 lol).

Zelda II or the Link to the Past? That's a hard one. On one hand, Zelda II had its charm with a different layout and gaming style, which still played like a Zelda game, with intense difficulty and addictive game play. But on the other hand, Link to the Past is a masterpiece of a RPG with great graphics, in-depth story, challenging game play and fluid controls. I can't possibly say which I prefer. So I'm saying neither, not because they are so bad they don't get considered a choice on which is better (because that clearly isn't the case here, your gaming preference would have to be pretty shallow to think that), but because they are two great games that seem to have the same impact on me, but in different ways. In reality, I think Link to the Past would win, but Zelda II blows me away on how it's so different, but still feels like a Zelda game, which is why I have chosen a tie.

A link to the Past cause of the gameplay and story.

Zelda A Link To The Past is what I prefer. Game play is similar to the original, compared to Zelda II. On top of that, there's more items, challenges, more stuff to do, which makes it a better game. Zelda II always seem similar to Dragon Warrior, in my opinion. The way you travel in the over world makes it feel like Dragon Warrior.

I think The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is better even though I didn't beat it yet. I didn't really like Zelda II because of the different approach the series tired to take. It was still cool but it was like you were getting too much added features to it like how the battle system was almost like a rpg ( when you were in the grass lands ) .

I like Zelda link to the past way more than i like Zelda 2, because i actually got somewhere in link to the past, in Zelda 2 i was like confused you know.

I like Zelda II because it's gameplay style and the sheer difficulty of the game.

I preferred A Link to the Past because I felt like that game had a much more developed story to it than Zelda 2 and I've always hated the format that Zelda 2 was in.

I'll also be honest and say that I didn't like how difficult Zelda 2 was. Not that A Link to the Past was super easy because it wasn't but it was more difficult in a puzzle solving sort of way than in the actual battles. There are a few battles that are tough for different reasons but it's not the same.

I still think that without A Link to the Past that the Zelda franchise wouldn't be where it is now.

I've yet to play A link to the past, but Zelda 2 just didn't impress me at all. It didn't feel like a Zelda game. I can respect that Nintendo was trying to branch out with the franchise, but I'm glad that they didn't go that way with it after all.
