Well running and biking are a great way to stay in shape. Another way is if you just play with your friends or something, that's all I do. |

I had the same issue a while ago and I looked up lots of ways to lose weight. There are lots of things that work for different people, but for me I drank more water, started eating more fruit and less junk, and I would go for a walk or something every once in a while, and after 2 months I had lost almost 30 pounds. You can take my advice if it helps, but there are lots of sites online where I'm sure you could find some useful tips on losing weight. |

Best Keep your concience as clean as you can, or charma will come with a blade in it's hand. It will strike all those who seek to gain without giving, and spare all of those who are weak and forgiving. |

How ironic, I just lost 15 lbs. over the summer. Lemme give you two things that are dire for losing weight:
1. Shrinking your stomach 2. Eating Healthier Now, shrinking your stomach may sound out of this world, but it's possible by simply eating more balanced portions. Make a menu; if you're too lazy to do that, buy some Lean Cuisines or some Healthy Choice. They're specially made in perfect portions. Once your stomach has shrunk, you will want to eat less. I'm not saying starve yourself; it'll do the exact opposite. By not eating enough, your body will naturally slow down your metabolism, so when you binge a couple of days later (and you will after starving yourself) you'll gain even more weight. Eating healthier shouldn't be too hard. Just throw out *most* of the crap (I'll explain why you'll want to keep some later) and buy fruit, vegetables, lean meat, and 2% milkfat or less milk. You'll want to keep some of the junk food because keeping oils and fats and sugars and the like are also vital for staying alive; a slice of pie or a scoop of ice cream isn't so bad every other day. Wow, that was long. I didn't expect to type so much. Hopefully it helps. 1. Shrinking your stomach 2. my opinion is drink more water (and less juice/pop) and take the time to exercise/run/bike for 30-60 minutes a day. Those 2 things on their own should help you lose weight. And try and be smarter about what you eat. More small meals are better than 2-3 large ones. It keeps your body digesting all day rather than starting and stopping. |

vizwiz123 : Two words: strength training. This is for both guys and gals. That's right, girls too! A lot of times when girls hear strength training they automatically assume they are going to get huge and muscular after a couple weeks of strength training and that is not true. Strength training will help you shed a lot of weight and also tone up those long lost muscles. And think about it, this only makes sense because when you're lifting heavy or heavier weights than you're typically used to, (without getting into the technicalities of carbs, etc.) you're using loads more of stored energy, thus losing weight. Of course everything that everyone has mentioned so far is important too but I highly recommend strength training as well, and when I say strength training I'm refering to lifting weights. When I first started lifting weights I thought I was going gain all this muscle mass right off the bat. Boy was I wrong. The first two weeks I lost about 15 pounds of weight (which was discouraging when you're trying to put weight on). Here, only a year later have I put on about 30 pounds of muscle mass. For guys, I recommend lifting higher weights, lower reps per set- maybe like 8-10 reps per set. For girls, I recommend lifting lower weights, higher reps- maybe like 12-15 reps per set. There are a lot of good routines available on the internet, you just have to kinda go through them and determine which one best works for you and will help you meet the goal you want. A couple words of advice and encouragement, the first two weeks are the absolute hardest to get through, but push through them, it is so worth it. Once you start seeing some numbers change on the scale and start getting compliments from others, you'll be so thankful you did. And if you can, find a friend to do this with, it's good to have support and encouragement from a friend and a spotter if you lift real heavy weights. Good luck! |

Trade out your normal beverages for water, especially if you normally drink soda. (An old trick to help you drink water is to add a little bit of lemon juice to each glass. It gives it just enough flavor to keep it interesting.)
I mentioned it in another thread, but if you're one of those people that says you 'don't have time' to exercise, do a google on 'Office Workout'. It's a 15 minute set of exercises with no more equipment than a stable chair and a wall. Another trick is to put your food on a smaller plate. Allow yourself to go for seconds if you want to, but chances are that you want. (Buffet restaurants use this trick all the time.) That depends on how much weight you intend to loose. From self experience, best tips are:
1. eat 5 or 6 times a day (but not junk foods, small portions of healthy foods, fruits, soups, that stuff). If you don't eat your body will begin to save calories and it will slow down the weight lost. Besides, by doing so you don't feel hungry and that candy bar don't look so temptation 2. forget soft drinks and canned juices. Got thirsty? Drink water 3. don't jump meals. By doing so you got more hungry and ends up eating more at the next meal 4. have some physical activities 5. don't go for a very harsh diet. You won't keep it for a long time and you'll gain very fast everything you lost Good luck! ---------- PS2: Fine. Mega Driver with 71 games: Nice. Super Nintendo bought at the fair for US$ 25,00: Double Nice. Turbo Game VG9000T bought at the same fair for US$ 5,00: Just Great. Black Mega Driver 3 found in a trash can with 4 cartridges: works like a charm. Long in the tooth Atari: running smoothly Xbox360 Falcon bought for US$ 700,00, used for 6 months: May devil be with it and guard it. 1. eat 5 or 6 times a day (but not junk foods, small portions of healthy foods, fruits, soups, that stuff). Number one thing that has always worked for me:
EAT FOOD FREQUENTLY THis keeps your metabolism and fat-burning hormones peaked at all times of the day. Instead of stuffing yourself full 3 times a day, try eating smaller lunches and suppers and instead eat more snacks throughout the day. Try not eating till ya stuffed, just try eating till you're satisfied. Now, don't go off eating a Twix every hour... Just eat something somewhat good for you pretty frequently - doesn't necessarily have to be "healthy". Just a cheese stick or something... Maybe a granola bar. Doing some sort of short, intense exercise will help you lose weight and strengthen up at the same time. Hopefully this may help you get into better shape mon. Good luck. It is a combination of things, you should limit how much you eat and how many meals you have and do a lot of workouts that cause you to sweat. |

Even just raising your heartbeat a decent amount is going to help. The 'office workout' that I referenced is designed to be low-sweat, so that business professionals can do it in the office without having to go shower off. |

There's a few things that need to be addressed here.
First off, the key is whether you are talking about weight or fat. If you are talking about fat then strength training will help you out. Muscle weighs more than fat, but it also helps increase your metabolism. If you mean weight then this wouldn't help as at first as least you'd add mass. Same thing goes with running, running is aerobic exercise and will help you burn fat, but it does build muscle. Walking (especially right after waking up) seems to help give your body's metabolism a kick. Other than this, I think there's some good advice above. As for milk, if you like milk (and have been drinking whole milk) then Purity makes a type of milk called Zero Plus, it tastes very similar to whole milk but has no fat in it and very few calories. It may be preferable to 2% as I always thought 2% tasted gross. First off, the key is whether you are talking about weight or fat. Hmm... I guess don't eat too much carbohydrates, and always walk or better yet, run. |

1. Find some sort of exercise or sport you enjoy doing.
2. Drink more water, eat less candy & sweets. 3. Run or walk daily maybe around your neighborhood or somewhere. That's all the ideas I have for now. But there are many great ideas above. 2. There are two great ways and one expensive key to make it perfect.
1. Diet 2. Exercise (I always preferred swimming since it's a full body workout) Key: There's a somewhat expensive test that examines your individual DNA to determine the perfect balance of dieting and exercising so that you get in the best shape. For some people, exercise 24/7 won't be enough. I can't personally afford the test so I just stick with my kickboxing now. 1. Diet 2. Losing weight takes dedication and commitment. If you're not...you won't ever lose weight.
Create a diet plan of course....eating a certain amount of times a day....I try not to eat more than 3 times a day. Daily exercise...walking for me works wonders Anything that burns calories and makes you sweat.... Doing this for a period of time will result in weight loss. The most important way is to eat healthy. You can't eat as much crap as you want and work out, you won't be healthy. If you don't give your body balanced nutrition you'll just burn out. |

You need to eat right so you don't put on more weight, and you need to exercise to lose the weight you have. Your diet is controlling how much weight goes in, and your exercise controls how much weight you'll lose. Eating a plant based diet with regular exercise will make you a lot healthier. It's more important to be healthy than to be skinny, or than losing weight. If you have to get unhealthy to reach a goal weight, then it's not worth it. Your health comes first, and if you're healthy then your weight will drop to what's right for you. |

Annette : Some professor did a study where he ate only twinkies for a certain period of time and he lost weight and ended up healthier (better blood pressure and such) than he was before the study (I think he was fairly out of shape). I can't remember the specifics of but if I find the link I'll share it.
And I read somewhere that jumping rope (or jumping jacks, I would assume) burn calories faster than walking or running. I did it a lot to get myself in shape to run for PT, and thought it was easy and more helpful than just running. But that was for getting in shape, not losing weight. Good luck with however you do it. EDIT: Found it. Looks like he still agrees with you even after his experiment. Still just goes to show we don't really know what "eating healthy" is. soxfan849 : Eating healthy is eating a plant-based diet full of nutrient rich vegetables, sugar/carbs from fruit and healthy fats from avocados and plant oils. Maybe some whole grains thrown in there too. |

Annette : I wasn't trying to argue that traditionally healthy diets are really unhealthy. Just saying there seem to be more ways than just one to achieve the same results. |

The most effective way to lose weight is to run. There are other effective means, but running is the simplest and easiest. Putting a stop to that second scoop of ice-cream couldn't hurt, either. |

A lot of complex answers here. I think that just restraining your appetite (eat enough but not too much) a bit and doing any activity that gets your heart pumping will do the trick. The human body is designed to store calories, that's why it's generally easier to gain weight than to shed weight. Why do you want to lose weight anyway? Health concerns? Self-conscious? |

The easiest way to lose weight is eating small portions of food and stretch those 3 meals a day to about 5-6. Eat plenty of fruits and veggies, exercise 3-4 times a week. Cut back on the junk food and replace it with healty snacks like granola bars, yogart, dried nuts, fruits, etc. Make sure you have a good breakfest. That's the most important meal of the day. You should lose your desired weight in 1-6 months. I lost 10 lbs. in about 45 days by following these steps. |

I am losing weight pretty fast right now, I was 216 lbs and now I am 160 lbs. (I'm 6'3 btw) I just used to eat until I was full because food tasted good instead of actually eating because I was hungry. I just took up some hobbies and started drinking water only along with only eating when I am actually hungry.
Also started doing 200 sittups a night with weights on my shoulders. So pretty much cut back on the unnecessary carbs and then exercise. Also started doing 200 sittups a night with weights on my shoulders. So pretty much cut back on the unnecessary carbs and then exercise. |

well, if you're already fat, we can figure out WHY you're fat,
1 could be that your parents keep telling you at dinner "eat everything on your plate" or something like that, so then you have to even if you're full, which leads you (after a while) to no longer be able to tell if you're full, so you just keep eating and get fat. 2 could be that you're just not eating the right foods, some bad quality foods that don't have any nutrians make you fat because you feel "full" once the nutrians reach your blood and you have enough to last for a while, but then if there isn't any, your body tells you to keep eating to GET those nutrians, so then you get fat. 3 could be that you you're not eating ENOUGH, when you don't get enough food, your body thinks that you're unable to get food so then it turns all of the food that you would use for energy, (running, fighting,) into fat to try and make it through the winter, so to solve the first problem, try looking up what the right amount of food for someone of your age should be eating every day, (how many pounds or so) and limit yourself to that amount, to solve the second problem, READ THE INGREDIENTS when you buy something, if it has big words or stuff that sounds artificial that you don't understand, don't buy it. (saturated fat, diogluceide blah blah blah) and if it says "enriched" don't buy it, because they don't need to enrich stuff unless they took out some vitamins to start with, or just plain buy fruits and vegetables and learn how to cook. (EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE) to solve the third one, don't starve yourself, eat until you're full, simple as that! but my personal opinion, go vegetarian for a while, people who did that lost more weight than weight loss companies claim that their course gets you to lose, just eat the fruits and vegetables, and stay away from artificial stuff, (sugar, corn syrup, and the crazy stuff they put in potato chips,) and if you start craving meat, just eat meat, eating it just once on your vegetarian diet won't hurt, just go back on the diet once you've ate it! I think you'll do just fine with all this information, and if you need more, you've still got google!!! 3 could be that you you're not eating ENOUGH, when you don't get enough food, your body thinks that you're unable to get food so then it turns all of the food that you would use for energy, (running, fighting,) into fat to try and make it through the winter, so to solve the first problem, try looking up what the right amount of food for someone of your age should be eating every day, (how many pounds or so) and limit yourself to that amount, to solve the second problem, READ THE INGREDIENTS when you buy something, if it has big words or stuff that sounds artificial that you don't understand, don't buy it. ................................. Spend five bucks and buy a copy of Mens Health magazine. Definitely a good read. Here ..................................are a few tips. when you wake up drink 8oz of water before breakfast , dont eat 4 hours .................................before bed , get plenty of sleep the 8 hour rule still stands. Now you can .................................eat what you want just have smaller portions. finally keep track of calories. If you eat .................................100 calories and do nothing you'll gain weight. If you eat 100 calories and burn off .................................100 calories your weight will stay the same. If you eat 100 calories and burn off 200 .................................calories you'll lose weight. Its very simple , you just have to really want to reach your .................................goal. |

Get plenty of exercise, eat lots of grains and vegetables. And don't eat too much sweets and food in general, get all the nutrients you need. |

Limit you portion sizes (only have one serving), grab fruit or a vegetable instead of junk food when you want a snack, and exercise every day for at least 45 minutes. that should do the trick! and oh, drink more water, less soda, and don't eat at resturants that uch, and try to avoid fast food. |

I know I probably sound like a commerical but I have a sure fire way to lose weight with a extra nice side effect too (less dental trips). Replace your soda with water. About 5 of my friends did this and the average weight lost was about 15 pounds. They didnt cut out dessert or anything they just stopped drinking soda. If that is impossible for you, then do what my mother did- drink 8 cups of water a day. Really commit to 8 cups of water- it will keep you from feeling hungry, keep you from overeating, you probably arent going to want to look at too many other liquids and just think of all the calories you will burn running to the bathroom (I have tried this myself unfortunately you need to find a bathroom about 2x as much as you used to but you feel a lot better). |

Start by walking at least a mile every day, once a day. Try to move up to two miles. Start in the morning or evening. Then, after a couple of months, start to jog your walking route. Try not to take breaks, try to jog the whole way. You could also lift some light weights and/or do curl ups to help. How many of what is up to you.
with the walking/jogging part, you'll lose weight, get outside, get fresh air and sun, and feel better. with the walking/jogging part, you'll lose weight, get outside, get fresh air and sun, and feel better. |

Err.. I need to lose weight too. What do I do? Get a life.
Nah, I'm kidding... Eat healthy, it does wonders. That, coupled with exercise, will make your life easy. (except when you're all sweaty and heaving your breathing out and in) Nah, I'm kidding... I found eating smaller portions and jogging every day for 15 mins helps lose weight quickly every time. My weight goes up every couple of years and I have to start the serious exercise thing again, it's not that I stop exercising I just love to eat ! :^) and it creeps back on bit by bit. Mmmm got me a craving for chilli burritos and nachos now |
