I have recently found an article on the internet i reads that obama would be allowed to shut down the internet because of cyber attacks because he is worried about important information getting out to terroris/criminal groups and things being worse than anything else that has already happened but i think he wants to take away our freedom im worried if he shuts down the internet there will be no more of sites like youtube or vizzed so here is a link to the page that has all the details:

Sounds like Obama to me. If he shuts down the internet, I'll survive. But I will join random rebel groups that pop up. Internet isn't something you can just take away from the country. We rely on it like blood anymore. tsk tsk. Also, how credible is this source?

I highly doubt it will happen, due to this quote:

"...which is very disturbing to those who believe in the Freedom of the Press which includes the Internet."

There is a, law I think it is?anyways, I think it is amendment. But there is something around where the third one is "The freedom of the press" which DOES include the internet. So they just cant go turn it off like it's no big deal, plus, that man was a SUPPORTER TO JOIN MCCAIN (if I read that right.), so again, he can't grant a kill switch for the Internet, to the president. Although that site looks very convincing/credible, I think it's a phony.

if the government can force people to join the army and die for their country then there is no reason why something like this couldn't be done too. And it's not like it would be used in any old situation.... it's not like Obama would be sitting around one day and just decide that he wants to turn the internet off. It would likely only happen after a real breach of security in order to protect government info and once the security of those places is restored then the system would be brought back up. Not a big deal if you ask me. Too much power for the president alone to wield but I imagine that there would be some sort of check to this power, or requirement to use it.

If that happens then, yes, people would go mad and groups would work to get it back. I would join them. This also reminds me of the whole "the Government might start watching you browse the Internet" thing a few months back. People wouldn't go for it, and if it happens theres going to be a whole lot of raids on Government sites, adding to the chaos.

But I doubt any of it will come to pass, because as others have said, we rely on the Internet way too much just to shut it down.

It would never pass in congress, thereof clearly disobeying our first amendment of freedom of speech/press.

I don't even know how it would be completely possible to shut down the internet nowadays. When it was created, it spread like a wildfire - one that will could be put out completely. Almost our whole world seems to revolve around the internet nowadays. Besides, like I said, it would NEVER pass in Congress. Most noboby in their decent mind would want to simply shut down something so necessary to most of the functionality of today.

I have about 100 feet of ethernet wire to donate that can be used to start our own internet. No matter what, I think the only way the internet could be shut down is if the power went out everwhere. This is also the system that is used for security isn't it.

I think the benefits outweigh the consequences. I mean, would you want all of your personal data probed and used by extremists or simply lose the internet for a little bit?

It's not even possible to "Shut off the internet", there's too many connections to the internet, and to do that he would have to shut down all servers and satellites connected to the internet on the planet. Not only is this not possible, it's unconstitutional, he doesn't have the right, or even a sufficient claim of reason to shut down the internet. This article doesn't seem credible not only because of it's logical contradictions, but it's lack of cited articles and information. It also seems that this kind of information would be widely available to the public if true, it would even be broadcasted by the news networks who would benefit from the ratings it would bring, suggesting this article is true is almost like suggesting that the cable news companies are not hungry for revenue which ratings create by allowing the networks to charge more money for ad time. It also seems inconsistent with released press information and the actions of the current administration.
Therefore I highly doubt the information presented in the article.

Eh, sorry, but in my opinion this is just plain idiotic.

This is just propaganda of sourfaced republicans.

Really, this won't happen.

The internet won't be going down no matter what.

Obama would never "shut down the internet" because of cyber-attacks.

I think that the page was just a phony.

Lagslayer : It is impossible to catch them all (unlike Pokemon), they can be anywhere, on Sonic the hedgehog 2 videos that play music from the game to a sesame street video, all on Youtube . I am serious just search "Oil Ocean zone" and look at the comments (forgot name to sesame street video but it featured Obama's wife).

Anyways, this feels like a threat, either the article is not too valid or Obama is actually for real.

This is what the internet has done to society, now that I think of it, the world cannot live without internet.

If Obama were to take down the internet a terrorist war or something will happen.

That is just an interesting thought due to how people cannot live without it, and the above replies adds "fuel" to the "fire" (I hope you get it) .
