In Gods eyes a sin is a sin, any sin is like any other sin to Him. Or at least I rember reading that, but I'm pretty sure it says that in the Bible.

There isn't much point in discussing the degree of sin as it applies to God, because aside from blasphemy(aforementioned) all sins are punished and forgiven the same way. The idea of "degrees" of sinfulness is more of a product of the Catholic church's system of punishments than scripture. If you measure a sin by the harm done, than it could be any sin depending on the result. Finally, one thing I have to say, NONE of the "seven deadly sins" are sins of themselves except for envy. Rather, they are emotions or traits that invite sinful behavior.

Glyphomancer : Actually they are. [THIS BRACKETED AREA HAS BEEN EDITED BY THE POSTER DUE TO GRIEVOUS MISTAKE ON HIS WRITINGS]
God does not only sees your actions as sins, but your thought life as well. Jesus talks about how looking with lust is considered adultery in the heart." (Matthew 5) Simply put, "sin is lawlessness" or "transgression of the law" in different versions (1 John 3:4) (last edited by play4fun on 01-07-11 11:02 PM) |

play4fun : That chapter is talking about the intent to commit sin, not the thoughts that lead to it. You could be angry with someone, but it wouldn't necessarily mean you intended to harm them.

Glyphomancer : You are correct that being angry is not sinning. However, God does see both our deeds AND our thoughts and intentions. That is why in that same chapter, it talks about how if you are angry at your brother without cause, you are subjected to judgment, and calling someone "you fool!" is subjected to judgment. Here it says that being angry without cause is sinning.
You can continue looking at 1 John, where it says that whoever "hates" his brother (no action, just the thought) is a murderer. You also see in 1 Timothy, so many people mistaken that money is the root of all kinds of evil, when 1 Timothy 6 says "For the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evil." From the thoughts of greed for money is enough to cause evil. What the Bible is trying to point out is that evil does not start with the action, but from the heart and your mind. You can think of talking bad things as well. The Bible says this: "A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." It points out how evil starts from the heart and that when you speak evil things out, it is showing what is stored in the heart. So, sin is not limited to what you do, but also what you think, what you intend, and what you plan, even if there is no action that comes with it. That is how corrupting sin is to human nature. I always thought that pride was the worst sin. Envy is probably second. They all seem pretty bad though.

Breaking one of God's laws you break them all. We as humans tend to put things into categories, for instance White lies, they are not any smaller than bigger lies. All sin is sin and that is all there is to it, God looks at them all the same.

I believe the worst sin there is, the only sin that will actually get you into what lots of people call "hell" is to have a sure and definite concrete testimony and faith in the lord, then turn your back on it, and lead others away from that faith. I believe even murder can be forgiven if one is truly penitent, but the nature of a murderer is such that more often than not they wouldn't feel remorse for their sin, and thus don't deserve forgiveness. As for all that seven deadly sins stuff, I don't really believe in defining sin by those categories. I think it's more a matter of common sense and what you believe and feel is right and wrong.

Probably the worst sin would have to be suicide. The reason is that if you commit it, you're going to Hell no matter what. It's unforgivable.

Mattishere5555 : "Probably the worst sin would have to be suicide. The reason is that if you commit it, you're going to Hell no matter what. It's unforgivable."
Theologically, I disagree with that statement. Suicide is forgivable, just like any sin, except for denying Him, which leads one to not be forgiven with the rest of the sins as well. |

The worst sin is taking your beliefs and putting them above everyone elses and telling them that they are wrong.
Trying to hurt other's core beliefs just for pride and fear is inherently wrong. |

septembern : Disagree with this too...how is telling someone that they are wrong....wrong? (get it?)
I can agree with the whole pride thing to an extent. Putting pride to yourself about how right you are is definitely a bad thing to do. |

According to the Bible, the worst sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, but only because it is the only unforgivable sin. But after that...Romans 6:23 states "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Ever sin is equal in the eyes of God. That all being said, if you mean what is the worst sin on earth and what should be punished more on earth, then of course Murder, Child Molestation and Rape are the worst.

Well there's no sin that worse then thee other. Maybe some don't seem as bad as others. example: lying or murder? Which one seems worse? I would think murder, wouldn't you? But in Gods eyes, they're all equally evil. The seven deadly sins are the ones you need to look out for. Those are mortal sins which i believe you won't be forgiven for to enter the kingdom of heaven. Pride, envy, greed, sloth, gluttony, wraith, and lust.

gamernate : ummm....2 things concerning the "mortal sins":
1. Where in the Bible says that they can't be forgiven? 2. I'm sure you have done these. In fact, I'm sure all of us have done one of these. Are you saying that no one will be entering the Kingdom of Heaven? |
