That really depends on which game you are talking about. In Super Smash Bros for the N64 my favorites were Pikachu and Captain Falcon, I liked them because they both had good move sets and they were both fast. I never played Super Smash Bros Melee. In Super Smash Bros Brawl my favorite is the Pokemon Trainer, I like the Pokemon Trainer because He/She has the perfect balance between fast/weak and strong/slow and you can change your strategy in a matter of seconds. Squirtle is fast and weak but has an amazing launch move, his/her upward smash and it is really fast to perform. Ivysaur is a perfect balance between weak/strong and slow/fast and also has an amazing launch move, his/her upward smash it is slow if you fully charge but one quick flick of the c-stick on a Gamecube controller will solve that.. Charizard is the slowest and most powerful of the three, he/she doesn't actually have one good launch move, all of them are good.

In the SSB, I liked Kirby the most.

In SSBM, I liked Ganondorf. Sure, he was slow and not that flashy, but DAMN did he hit hard.

For SSBB, I still gotta go with Ganondorf. Others come close, but Ganondorf is just so much more satisfying. MK is alright, but I don't like the death by a thousand cuts approach. Lucario is strong, fast, and straight forward, but he has this tendancy to wall jump all the time. I hate Captain Falcon. I REALLY hate Captain Falcon. Always have, probably always will.

I am very surprised no one said Sonic, He is extremely powerful, but a bit too cheap with his recovery move.

My favorite would have to be a 3 way tie between Lucas (and Ness, but I prefer Lucas),Fox and Sonic.

Lucas is very powerful, he has Pk fire, PK freeze (hard to use, but useful), PK Thunder (Quite a cheap move but also quite hard for recovery) and a Rope snake. He is very powerful if used right, as he has a LOT of unique moves (Sonic's spamming spindash moves are NOT cool).

Fox, I don't know why I like Fox, I just do .

Sonic, I used to only play as him but now I am trying all the characters, he is very fast, he has some pretty good moves (let's B smash that noob over and over) and he AWESOMELY PWNT TABCUU IN THE FINAL FIGHT. I just hate how cheap he is, I wished his Up B is replace with something else, like a controller-able spin dash (like Pk thunder, but you are moving Sonic).

In the original SSB, I liked Kirby. He was 1 of 2 characters who had more than 2 jumps, he could copy abilities, and his Stone move was very powerful.

In SSBM, I liked Young Link. He seemed like an odd choice for many players, but I liked his speed advantage over adult Link. Utilizing this, he could make up for the shorter sword range.

Lastly, in SSBB, I like Ness. His PK Fire is great for immobilizing opponents, setting them up for a back-throw, which in Ness' case, is one of the best throws in the game. PK Thunder is good for playing mind-games, as you can choose to directly hit an opponent with it, or go for PK Thunder 2 and hit yourself with it. His B-air has a great sweetspot, and his D-air is an easy to perform spike, which can be set-up using his forward throw.

Mario for me. My friends and i have massive tourneys at my apt and i always pwn em with him. The only real challenge is when my friend Tito picks Fox cuz that guys is incredibly fast. He's my 2nd fav but im just not good with him at all.
