Are you going to a costume party this year?

septembern : My Halloween was actually really boring. I came home and fell asleep at about 6pm.

But my weekend was awesome. I went to a costume party as a witch. It was an all-adult party, invitation only, so it was a really nice atmosphere and everyone there was awesome. I'm glad I got to see my friends.

rcarter2 : Yeah. It does get really boring. Usually I sleep or stare into space. I don't drive because I can't afford a car (unemployed ) - I take a bus, and a train.

billythekidmonster : Outside, in the summer. It might be on my grandparent's lawn (they have a really nice lawn and house), or on a golf course. Not interested in doing it at a church or any other type of religious location.

My question is now this: Will you read the following without automatically objecting?  Read it, let it sink it, think about it.

I know you're 19.  I was 19 and in love.  In fact, I was dating the girl who became my wife down the road.  But why hurry?  If you're going to be with this guy the rest of your life, you should be confident and comfortable with the relationship without being married.  You're not yet developed into the person you're going to be the rest of your life.  You're still in your formative years.  Hell, I'm 30 and I'm still discovering things about myself.  I've been with my wife 13 years now and we've grown together but we did a lot of it while we only dated.  We didn't get married for seven years.  We didn't rush into it.

I only ask because I expect your parents said the same thing.  Maybe you're enamored with the status of being married.  Maybe having a husband is important to you because you can say it.  It's everyone's dream to find someone they can call their own.  But how do you know your tastes, life goals, and way of life will be on the same page when you're 25?  How do you know your fella there is going to be able to grow and agree with you?  Six years difference isn't a big deal if everyone's over 30 but when it's between 25 and 19.... that raises an eyebrow.  My 25 year old self was LIGHTYEARS away from my 19 year old self.  I was in two different places with the various experiences and lessons learned along the way.  I couldn't imagine dating a 19 year old girl when I was 25.

I'm not pooh-poohing you.  If you absolutely have to get married, think about why you absolutely have to.  Take the next year and really ponder what's going on.  I've read the things you've said on here and you seem very intelligent and you seem like you know what's going on but you're still learning about yourself and the world around you. 

My last question: Why not wait until you're 21?  Or 24?

Lastly, I'm sure you've heard it.  I'm sure everyone is criticizing and attacking you.  I'm sorry if I offend you and I apologize.  The real reason I type all this out is because I think you're a good person and you have a very level head.  That's why I'm interested in the rush.
