Ok, if your not in the US, your safe.

The Second Amendment stands by a vote of 5-4.

But this little vote they had scares me! I'm a part of the NRA(national rifle association). I shoot and love guns. Our right, in our bill of rights is one vote from disappearing.

And they are considering bringing in someone who I thin will likely vote against our right. She compares the NRA to the KKK. THAT insults me!

What do you think?

2nd Amendment is a complete joke always has been. NRA is exactly like KKK since KKK are basically wanting to preserve whites in America just like how NRA want to preserve the right to bare arms.

Whether they have a vote on it or not its obviously gone and has been for a while. Many people get charged with possession of a deadly weapon even when they never threaten or use it on anyone. They basically take your weapon, hand cuff you, finger print you, slap a felony on you and make you do community service. To me it has been gone for a long time this vote wont really change much.

apparently....

the supreme court voted on it for some reason. I'm not really sure why you would want to get rid of the 2nd amendment... unless you were in the government... then you might be all for getting rid of it. Disarm the population and they really have no way to fight back against an ever expanding and controlling federal government.

This disturbs me greatly. Too think, if Obama nominates a liberal judge when a conservative judge retires, than it would be 5-4 gun ban in favor. I don't think the 2nd amendment was a joke. I just don't think that the founders gave us the second amendment just so we can act like weirdo's who brag about who has the bigger gun. I think the founders had specific and important reasons for giving us the right to take up arms. Looking back on history, I think it was not only for defense against intruders, or to hunt, but against our OWN government as well.

LOL

Thats crazy, I'm surprised I hadn't heard about this. Definitely not a god idea to ban all guns. But like geeogree said the only people that would benefit from that, is the government.

Actually, criminals would benefit from this as well. Do you really think they would actually just go into a normal gun store! No way! They get them illegally! The only people this will keep from getting shot is a criminal.

Another thing to think about if we had our guns taken away, the government could easily stop any rebellion if someone decided enough is enough.

I believe that if someone wants to wear a t-shirt, then no one should be allowed to stop them.

*Ducks barrage of rotten tomatoes*

In all seriousness, I'm a Canuck, but if someone wants to own a gun they should be allowed to. Guns SHOULD be to protect yourself. However testostrone ridden gun maniac are ruining it for everybody by shooting up people. All banning guns is going to do is keep honest people from getting guns to be able to protect themselves.

But again, I live in an igloo so what do I know?

"Disarm the population and they really have no way to fight back against an ever expanding and controlling federal government"
"if we had our guns taken away, the government could easily stop any rebellion"

Oh common, you really think that civillians would have any chance at all against the people that control the military?
I think not. This is all a big over reaction by people in the US, down here in Australia guns are outlawed except for the military, police and highly regulated gun clubs and we dont live under martial law or anything.
If anything it is safer here then it ever was when guns were legal for everyone, gun crime rates are drastically lower, customs became stricter and more criminals are arrested and locked away.
Certainly if all a government did was to outlaw guns without the backup laws put in place and the extra effort made by law enforcement then it would be anarchy, but the US isnt that stupid, is it?

DarkHyren : you forget that the military is also the population in the US. I would be interested to see how many soldiers actually fought for and how many fought against the government.

Plus you have groups of NRA members and such that have formed private militia groups. The US is WAY too big to be controlled via martial law especially if every citizen owns a gun. Sure the casualty rate would be higher on the civilian side.

The purpose of this amendment is less about allowing the civilian population to own a gun and more about keeping the government in check because it knows that there are a lot of gun owners among the population and if they had to they could overthrow the government.

I think America's government lost its backbone along time ago, but aside from that, while they think this would help them, it would hurt the public. If a burglar comes into your home or business and threatens you, you couldn't legally defend yourself. That's the point of the right to bear arms.

I agree with tRIUNE here. If the government takes guns away, not only will we be vulnerable to the government but we will be more vulnerable to common criminals. Its been proven quite often that being illegal does not stop them. You're just making it easier for criminals to pull their crap.

I don't see why it's such a big deal?
Don't only a few countries have the right to bear arms?

Hoochman : What do you mean by 'thank god this isn't Australia. Here in the US, we actually do have a gov't that would put down a rebellion'?

joebab : The big deal I see here is not so much simply removing our right to have a gun (although I'm really ticked about that myself )... it's that the government is trying to change our Constitution. Not even add a new amendment... they're trying to remove one. It seems that they have decided that our founding fathers are stupid. People are judged on this Constitution all the time, a law can be forcibly receded if it goes against our founding laws, and yet they've decided to try and overwrite them. I'm glad justice prevails... and it appears to be the hand of God acting kindly towards His followers in a once-faithful nation.

The US founding fathers were stupid.
I mean certainly the British government did not do right by the colonies when they raised taxes without allowing them to send representatives to London, but it doesnt mean that the people of the colonies were right either.

The reasons for changing or removing laws is simple; they no longer suit the best interests of the government or it's people.
Laws that were made hundreds of years ago may not be entirely valid anymore...
But "justice" as it is seen today is a warped concept by which those that follow a law are "just" while those that oppose it are not.

And honestly, the US population elected these people, if you think the government has too much power then stop electing power mad people.
Listen to their policies rather then the mudslinging, have protests when the elected officials dont honor their campaign promises or warp them into something else.

Hey, there are a lot of Americans here. Its the fact that we abandoned all those principles we had before that is screwing America over. The founders were very smart men. They certainly knew what they were doing when they gave us our rights such as the right to bear arms.
