At first I didn't think this would end up being an issue, but after an hour straight of trying to make this shot I am beginning to think this isn't even possible with the controls...

What (I am pretty certain) you are supposed to do at this point in the level is shoot the eye-switch with an arrow to raise the gate, which I am able to do. Then you are supposed to quickly use the Longshot to grapple to the point behind the gate. Here's where the problem is: the shot is damn near impossible with a keyboard. Just tapping a key to aim moves the cursor too much to make the right shot. If anybody has been able to make this shot with a keyboard please respond or message me how you did it!

Here's what's going on: the keyboard aiming system makes it so that your aim is always too high or too low to hit the grapple point with the Longshot. This makes completing the level impossible...

Is it time to stop being a cheapo and just get an N64 controller for my PC or is there a way to make this shot with a keyboard?

Seriously, put some thought and effort in, he said that he cant aim properly because the keyboard makes it either aim too high or too low.
That means it wont matter what weapon is used.

Wow I thought this thread would have died by now, I was very surprised when I saw that it had responses.

I have long since gotten a PC controller and beat the Water Temple, but later in the game the Lens of Truth doesn't work which makes the Shadow Temple rather...difficult. Hopefully Davideo gets around to it some time.

Might be a video card layering problem, try updating your video cards drivers.
But if it doesnt fix it we'll see if we can get one of the RGR staffers to get the Lens to work properly

wait, I'm officially having the exact same problem in the water temple. Does this really mean it's impossible to continue without a controller? Davideo7 posted an announcement a while back, so I was hoping to wait and see if he ever released a Vizzed controller before going out and buying one...

What you want to do at that point in the water temple is to shoot the eye switch with an arrow and then line up the shot to the hookshot point with your longshot as closely as you can. Then you need to quickly double click the screen to bring up the controls menu and check the boxes that say "Smooth X" and Smooth Y"
This will cause the cursor to move smoothly over to the point you need to hookshot to, although it scrolls slowly, which is why I say to aim as closely to the target as you can before bringing up the control menu.
I had a ton of trouble with this too before I discovered this method of aiming more accurately. And through this method I haven't needed to get the controller adapter.

By the way, you don't necessarily need a Nintendo controller. I used a Saitek P990 controller and that has served me quite well.
