This is reporting something MegaRev told me in the Vizzed Flash Chat: She's apparently been trying out Sonic CD and for whatever reason;

1) It has the Japanese redbook tracks but US FMV sequences/songs (Sounding like a quick hack, rather than a "good" version, was used as the basis)
2) Redbook tracks shift upon track end (I don't believe any tracks in Sonic CD do this - they repeat until the next appropriate track is called).
3) [Space reserved in case something else comes up]
and then something else came up.
"when using the F2 save method, the audio crashes and doesn't play at all after reloading. At least, for the section you start back at upon loading. The boss fight music loaded fine."

This sounds like stuff that could use some resolving. If you guys need different/"better" versions of the Sonic CD ISO, I can help link you up with some.

KiddoCabbuses : The file in the RGR is just Sonic.bin

Is there a more accurate dump? I ask because I didn't upload it...

That filename sounds vague. I can't even tell the source of the file from that name. Might be a good idea to try to see what it matches when you put it through a No-Intro or TOSEC database. Either way, there's no "official" version of Sonic CD that matches up with what MegaRev described.

CD disc image dumps are a bit of a quirky issue because they've been dumped various ways for many years and standards are still  changing.
That being said, for the sake of the load on the site, you'd probably want ISO/MP3 format so you can reduce the filesize of CDDA tracks.

However, most sites I can think to supply are prone to giving more "pure" BIN/CUEs, although those could be converted to ISO/MP3 with some effort.

For Sonic CD in particular, you have 3 good options if you want to have a version with the original audio;
1) Emulate the Japanese-region ISO
2) Emulate the PAL version ISO
3) Emulate the "920 Prototype", which is actually the Japanese version of the game set as US-region, and is the version gaming publications got when reviewing the game.

Most of these are available in BIN/CUE form somewhere, and I could find them easily if needed. ^^

KiddoCabbuses :
tRIUNE :

This doesn't seem to be an issue with just the Sonic CD iso as the save/load issue is happening with several games I have tried so far. I reported it in my testing thread.

The short of the story is that the game loads fine within the same session, but if you exit out and try to resume back at a later time there are graphic issues as well as the sound not matching up.

As I said you can read about it in the testing thread. https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=47091

Davideo7 : I have now found problems for these Games: Yoshi's Story (Nintendo 64) and 007 The World is not enough (Nintendo 64). These are the problems in detail: Yoshi Story (Nintendo 64): Has graphic issues when you jump and look up and down in all of the Levels. 007 The World is not enough (Nintendo 64): While on the second mission King's Ransom when you go to the fire exit to go downstairs, the wall disappears and acts like a wall. This only happens when I restart the level and it works fine when I start the Game (Emulator). This also happens when I am on the tenth level City of Walkways II.

System: Sega Genesis
Game: Hardball '95
Problem: The game doesn't seem to load at all. Immediately after the Sega logo, you get a red screen with white text that reads:

Cartridge Error Message:
SRAM Failure
Press RESTART to restart.

Of course, restarting doesn't actually solve anything. I'm guessing this is a bad ROM?

tRIUNE: (I don't have the slightest idea how people do the formatted addressing of users on this board) Well... it certainly loads now at least. The game is kind of screwy, though. I'd show you what I mean, all attempts to take screenshots gave me a "upload failed" error message. I'll just try to describe with text:

When I loaded up a test Exhibition game, the match-up screen looked a bit glitched. When I went to select teams for the game, the first two or three team names were actually blank, though those after it at least had their names. However, they had VERY random Win-Loss totals. Most were 0-0 but some had ridiculous things like 0-112. Going into a team to view its roster showed no player names anywhere nor any stats or anything. It was all blank.

I recall from when I played the real game on a real Genesis, that in the Menu, there's a reset cartridge option. Assuming that maybe there was some oddity with the data before the dump, I decided to do this to reset it to factor settings. That didn't seem to help at all, though. All it did was get rid of the 112 losses and such so EVERY team was 0-0, but the missing team names did not return, nor did any of the players.

tRIUNE : I thought I did that name-colon thing last post, but somehow I managed to botch it >.>

Well whatever... The game data looks to be displaying just like I remember it. Haven't had a chance to test an actual game yet, but I don't foresee any errors there. Out of curiosity, I do wonder which dump of the ROM that is. I know that when I tried emulating the game in the past, I got what you previously had up there with the blank data. Never could find one that worked properly like this one there now seems to. Anyway, thanks for finding the right ROM!

SuperGameBoy1 :
tessier25 :

Those problems are not actually problems with the games per se, the 2 N64 emulators we have in the RGR are more likely the problem - we have 1964 and Mupen64Plus because they're open source, but Project 64 would probably be without those problems and we don't have that emulator because it's not open source.

However, various updates have been made to improve N64 emulation with the RGR Plugin. Initially we did not have Mupen, but only 1964. Also included in an update was the option to switch the video plugin for each emulator. You could try each available plugin via the links in the top right of the play window. Other than this, there isn't anything else that can be done with the current supported emulators, other than try the game on a different computer that has a different graphic card, or perhaps check for an update to your current display adapter's driver.

Crazy Li : Yeah the first rom I had for that was HardBall 95 (U) [f1], current rom for it is HardBall 95 (JUE) [o1][h1]. Fortunately I was able to fix this one by just replacing the rom, however sometimes if a Genesis rom won't work you can reformat the file type with SBWin:

tRIUNE : Just adding another problem I found with Sonic CD.

When I try to load State by pressing F4, it takes me back to the "Checking Disc" screen, and it gets stuck there.

Also, when you enter to a Special stage, the SFX stop playing.

This happens with both versions of the game (US and EU/JAP)

Davideo7 : If this doesn't happen on my Gens emulator, would you know why it does with the Plugin? Or maybe the save path in the RGR has misconfiguration?

A few current notes on the beta test items:

1) There's a substantial amount of MAME games that complain of missing files for various reasons, and solutions may need to be on a case-by-case basis.

In a few instances, such as "Street Fighter Alpha (USA)", these may be games which have mistakenly been listed as "Parent" when they are in fact "Clone" ROMs. (this one requires a slew of sfz.xxx files).

Some of them require BIOs files. Sometimes you can find the BIOs listed on RGR Separately. A nice example here might be "Samurai Shodown 64", which needs the Hyper NeoGeo 64 BIOs. I can play this game by loading up the HNG64 BIOS (which will crash, but whatever) and then loading up this game. On the other hand, the "Super Famicom Box" ROMs which require a spc-something file, I can't do anything with because that file appears to not be anywhere on RGR. Anything on the Naomi hardware, also, appears to be missing important files.

Some of them require CHD files. Unfortunately, CHD files are large. Probably the most infamous and unfortunate example here would be the "Killer Instinct" arcade games, which require CHD files that are as large as CD ISOs. There is no version of the original arcade Killer Instinct or Killer Instinct 2 that can play without CHDs.
Slightly more confusing, but manageable, are the CPS3 arcade titles -  the "Parent" versions request CHDs, but as you can see in my screenshot gallery I managed to get certain clone ROMs to play, and those don't need CHDs.

2) On the note of Sega CD.

Popful Mail crashes after the CD BIOs on me, most likely an emulator incompatibility. Unfortunate, since this is a very high-quality Sega CD game that deserves attention along with Lunar and Snatcher.

KiddoCabbuses : Certain BIOS files were added with the batch of MAME games as in the case of Hyper NeoGeo 64 BIOS, but eventually will be removed before the system is made public. Basically during this testing phase the Plugin can be set up to load the necessary files from the data base and a lot have already been automated, but some still need to have it manually set up. I've done that now for Samurai Showdown 64.

The Super Famicom Box games require the BIOS which would be sfcbox. I've went and set up those games to work now:
-New Super 3D Golf Simulation - Waialae No Kiseki + Super Mahjong 2
-Super Donkey Kong + Super Bomberman 2
-Super Donkey Kong + Super Tetris 2 + Bombliss
-Super Mario Kart + Super Mario Collection + Star Fox
(if there are other Super Famicom Box games, please let me know)

I'm not sure yet if the Plugin supports the CHD files, but that will have to tested. I wasn't aware of the CPS3 arcade titles needing CHDs, but if you're able to get them to work without them let me know and I can set up the Plugin to use that method.

Yeah Popful Mail crashes for me as well, I'm going through and testing the SCD games so I'll see if it can be fixed somehow.

KiddoCabbuses : I just realized I skipped over the part about the Street Fighter Alpha 2 games. The current setup is correct but for some reason the zip for the parent was missing roms so I added those and it should work now along with the clones. But you'll have to delete your current sfa2 file from your RGR Plugin Data folder in order to play the new file because I didn't rename it when I reuploaded it.

I am posting problems with Killer Instinct Gold.  It is the worst working game on the N64.  The speed is very low and the keys are hard.  It doesn't even really show you any of the main menu.  And it doesn't show you your combos that much either.
