This wouldn't be it's own feature necessarily, it'd be part of the RGR but each issue would be treated like how each game is. Xfighter brought this up to me earlier today and I'm glad he did, this site really inspired me to consider this:

http://www.i-console.com/magazines.php
Click one of their magazines (to browse thru, either double click the corner or just grab the page). If I were to do this, I'd use the same flash script their using, I looked it up and they charge $69. Basically this takes PDF files and lets you browse thru them as if you were reading a magazine and it loads the pages on the fly and it loads an optimized version of each (until you double click, than you get the full res). And although the average magazine is 50 MB, I figured since most people would only skim thru the magazines and not view all the pages in full res, it'd probably only use up 5 MB per a person so I was thinking charging 30 - 50 Viz per a magazine.

Anyways, I thought this would be a great way to offer even more to those interested in retro gaming. Some of these magazines bring back insane amount of memories going thru them. Here's a few magazines I figured we'd add:
-Nintendo Power
-Game Informer
-EGM
-Dreamcast Magazine (I know we don't have dreamcast in the RGR but still the magazine is awesome and DC is probably considered retro to some by now)

Oh, I like that!!! That's a sweet idea! Go for it! I promise I'll buy every issue you have of Nintendo Power, I promise you that!!! Lol favorite magazine, seconded by Game Informer!

And is it gonna be the same flip-effects and everything like their setup? Cuz that's a sweet setup...

Hey, I only found this site a couple of days ago searching the web...but i love what you're doing. I miss playing all the games i played growing up, which this site lets me do. The magazine idea is a great one in my opinion, just thought i'd let you know! Anyways, hopefully the RGR will be back up soon so I can start playing again. Thank you for doing something so many others have tried at before and failed.

Zeldisaster: Yeap I'd use the same exact script, read my entire post for full details

quinniuq28: Thanks - Yeah RGR will be back up by morning, glad you posted though, we could use some more retro gamers posting on the forum.

Lol I did read your entire post. I don't skim like some people Lol. I just didn't think they used the original script exactly, I thought the format or something changed at least to fit what they wanted for their site. But I still think it's a cool idea. And at only 50 Viz each, buying every issue of Nintendo Power you put up will be a cinch. You should also see if you can make the issues people buy appear on their profiles like the games and toons do. Just pitching an idea, though.

interesting idea.... it runs pretty well from what I can tell.

I doubt I'll use the feature myself but I think it makes a good addition to the site. Makes things more well rounded.

geeogree: Yeah I don't expect it to get people to come here just for the magazines but I'm sure a lot of the retro gamers on here will go through some of them. I know I myself would probably read through a few though, I not only have a ton of memories in some of these retro games but I also have a lot of memories with some of the gaming magazines as well.

I think that's a really awesome idea. It'd be cool if you could get instruction manuals or strategy guides for the games too, but I don't know if that's possible, legal, or even an amount of work a mortal is capable of doing. If there was a function that could let you you click on the games featured in the magazines and vice versa, so you can play them on the site or see the walk through more conveniently, I think that would be an amazing addition. That would require a lot of linking and checking and stuff though. Maybe a few new staff positions for magazine linkers? Lol

I love the idea of having the games strategy guides...but that would be tough. This is what gamefaqs is for. haha.

I'd sign up for that position! I'm already a mod on JusTReaL's site, so I think I'd be able to pull it off. But the walkthrough idea is complicated. If you browse a bunch of walkthroughs for a bunch of different games, you'll find that a lot of walkthroughs are different. Some explain it better, some are even unfinished, and then others sometimes don't explain what a person is looking for. It wouldn't really work, though it is a nice idea.

I eventually plan to offer instruction manuals for each of the games. As for strategy guides, that's another possibility but it'd of course have to be for older games.

Yeah I would probably hire some extra staff to help out with this, thankfully it's not nearly as big of a task as the RGR is.

Zeld: What I meant by walk throughs is the ones in the magazines, like Nintendo power.

David: If you're planning instruction manuals, do you mean the official ones or user created ones? I think the option of user created ones could potentially be kind of funny, and maybe pretty helpful too, provided that there's a group of people willing to make them.

BTowns: Official, to much work getting users to create their own. I plan to have downloadable files for each RGR game eventually which would include the instruction manual, music files, strategy guide, other graphics and other stuff.

This is a totally cool idea, because it would make this site more of a mega play-place. If there were to be a small position, I would definably sign up. It seems like it would be very interesting and would drive a few extra people in. It would be a success for the site and all who inhabit it.

EDIT: On the July-August 1989 issue, it had a really cool Gameboy ad. The New Gameboy Compact System!

Yes, it's important to diversify. The more we offer, the more people we'll attract, and the more this site will be an all-in-one, so more traffic.

I think maybe there could be a "Subscribe" option. Instead of paying 40 Viz for each, you charge 360Viz a year with one Magazine a month. Giving them a small discount.

I really like the idea.

Light Knight: That's not a bad idea, very interesting to, would be like they were actually subscribed. Only problem though is I'd have to recode a lot of stuff and not sure if I want to put that much work into it, was hoping to just use the code from the RGR but we'll see.

I just thought of another idea, maybe a room for comic books, anything prior to 2000. Not sure how many would be interested though.

I like that idea, then there could be more than just game comics, like the really old
Archies (which owns the original Sonic comics) Superman, or something like that. (If they are not too protected by the sites and if you or someone else can find PDA's of them.) Anyways, it would be a perfect idea to have an entire room and not just to be a subsidiary of the RGR, thus expanding the site.

I'm liking this more and more. I love the old game magazines and wouldn't mind seeing old comic books. Does your use of comic book also include Manga? I would definitely like to see some manga here as well as comic books.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
