Do you think chidren when ther born get microchips implanted in them? so if they get lost authorites can scan them and see who they are. or they can just track them to find out were there at. and if a crimanal kidnaps them they can track them,or they wouldnt be able to take them over the border with out being scanned.

i ask this question because people are putting micochips in pets nowadays.

Like, right now? No... at least, they didn't two years ago when my sister was born, and I highly doubt they're doing it now. Wouldn't it be rather dangerous? They're newborn babies, performing an unnecessary surgery to implant a microchip would be irresponsible and rather stupid.

I meant to say do you think they should get microchips implanted in them. im not saying there doing it wright NOW. but some people are putting them in there pets.

No. Oh, you want reasons? OK, fair enough.

1) Someone will abuse it. Think Big Brother. Moving on.

2) Like bignatealpha said, it's a bad idea to perform surgery on infants.

3) It would be incredibly expensive and impractical. Think of it this way: We owe too much money to even print the money we need to pay it back. Why should we increase taxes to put microchips in people that would allow people to monitor us without our permission?

4) If the child kidnapper knows there are microchips in the child, (s)he'll be motivated to have his/her way with the kid before quickly disposing of him/her--which may include killing the child--before we even have a chance to start negotiations. That's the OPPOSITE of what we want here.

5) Children aren't pets: they can't take care of themselves. Instead of giving parents the tools to allow their children to wander off on their own, why don't we smack them upside the head every time they allow this to happen so that it won't happen in the first place? I guarantee it would cost less.

EDIT Another note on 5, just to clarify and put it in perspective: It's like trying so solve the AIDS "problem" by giving people condoms. You're not solving the problem, you're giving people with AIDS an excuse to have sex with people and say it's "safe," and teh statistics have shown us that it's not working. In addition, as a side-effect, more teenagers are getting pregnant. You'll be solving the same number of problems by putting microchips in children because parents would be encouraged to think it's "safe" to not watch their children.

They will in future, if not then they will be placed in your id's. I got 2 pets from the pound a year back and I think their rule is all animals will get chipped before going to a new home.

Also, another form of chipping would be the kind in those new cell phones where you can see where your family is located. That is obviously not the only people who could see it, FBI would be all up in their system finding criminals.

Basically from what I hear. You either get a chip or your screwed. You wont be able to buy food or get a job without it. Also at anytime they could turn off your chip and that would be just as bad as not having one. But this won't be for a while... It will probably be a lot like Minority Report in future though

I highly doubt it will go that far... even though I am using that idea in my book. But no, I don't think that they would do it... at least not in the brain and not at birth. Far too risky.

Yeah probably not a birth, but I expect it to be something needed for later on in life to get a job or something. Kinda like credit cards, social security cards, and photo ids all integrated in one.

Come to think of it, the Bible predicts that something like that will happen in the book of Revelation... but I don't know if we could be considered "ready" to try something like that.

My opinion on the matter is that the government would abuse this. But will it go that far? I believe that, unchecked, it will go that far and so much more.

Yeah, in Revelation chapter 13, verses 16 onward, it says that everyone will eventually receive a mark (microchip) on their right hand or forehead, and whoever doesn't have it won't be able to buy or sell. The people who get the mark are all conformists who worship the beast and follow the false prophet (likely a politician in my opinion) while the righteous know enough not to get it.
I'd suggest you use the website I linked to read the whole book of Revelation to get an idea of what's going on. Some people claim they're seeing signs of the end times even today.

That's what the writers of the Left Behind series portrayed the mark as. Think about it, isn't that really kind of creepy? Any good hacker would with one click be able to prevent you from earning a living. Why would you want a future like that? No, it should not go that far. I'm okay with putting micro-chips in consenting adults for ease, but necessary to buy or sell? That's preposterous! And definitely not in children, as Crawldragon said, it will cause parents to be less responsible.

I don't think its practical.. Wouldn't their bodies have problems undergoing that at such a young age? It's not safe to cut a baby, they are very prone to infections and complications. They have no immune system.

Surely there would be some complications down the road as well... You would hear about people's bodies rejecting them, getting infections, malfunctions/breaking, etc.

I imagine it would be bloody expensive, too.

How about we just put the microchips on the eggs in the ovaries of women? Then we don't have to worry about making babies undergo surgery and they'll just have a big chip stuck to their face and everything will be okay!

Just kidding. I think that there will one day be a form of chipping or some kind of bar code tattooed on each of us, but not at birth. They might do it when we first are sent to school, and that may become a new kind of tradition, "chip day" or whatever. It'll be like a new form of birth certificate or passport, because if you don't have a birth certificate, legally you aren't alive, and you legally don't exist.

I don't think they do it YET, keyword yet but I believe we will see it happen in the future sometime. It's been talked about alot over the last couple years so who knows maybe we will see it soon...

Yeah, JTRL is right, it would be too dangerous to implant chips on babies today, but later on they MIGHT do it.

On our days I'm sure that this will not happen,
but in 100 years I'm sure that they will try to make this "legal".
But, in my mind, it's the worst thing that will happen to people, because they will never have a true personal life.

With our shady corrupt government i believe anything of that nature is possible, probably not in my lifetime, but in the future. I've watched shows on the history channel about it too. I'm not a very religious or reichous type person but stuff like that has been foretold for a very long time.

One thing i do know is that i'll fight it every step of the way if it ever begins to happen that I can't buy or sell without the chip or barcode on me. I've never been one for conformity anyways...

This is a topic I could probably keep shooting on for awhile but i'll let it at that. If it ever happens I strongly disagree with it.
