How many people here play Pokemon TCG Pocket? It's only been out for six weeks but has had an insane user base so far. It's been a bit slow but with a new expansion pack releasing yesterday and their plan to add more than 5,000 different cards, it looks like the app will be supported for a long time.

I never learned how to play the card game but then the app basically taught me everything I need to know in like 30 minutes and I love the collection aspect.

I play. I'm level 26 currently.

It's worth noting that the gameplay in TCG Pocket is not the same as the actual card game. Same basic idea, sure, but TCG Pocket's gameplay is a heavily simplified version of the actual TCG. I definitely prefer the complexities of the actual TCG better, but I enjoy Pocket as well. I think Pocket is more enjoyable for people that don't want to spend a ton of time and/or money gathering all of the cards that they need to build a competitive deck.

I've been tempted to try it, but I'll have to dig further in its limitations compared to the actual TCG. It's something that I already experienced with Yu-Gi-Oh!, so the background is not very positive.

I honestly think they should have just ported the TCG Live to mobile, current hardware can withstand it without major issues and players could experience everything about the TCG instead of having a limited/simplified version. True, it's gonna be a springboard for many to enter the proper TCG, either in real life or through the official app, but given the franchise's history I don't think it was necessary.

Tried it and deleted it after a couple weeks. The pack pulling more fun than the oversimplified battles, they are wholly dictated by who has the super effective deck and a bit of luck. There are way better TCGs objectively, Pokémon is just fun and valuable to collect which the app can't replicate.

I'm starting to think that adding the expansions so soon is hurting the game. It's great to have so many cards now but the app is only a few months old but it can already start to get overwhelming for newer players with five different releases in such a short time.

zanderlex: They're adding them just a bit too quickly. I like new expansions to be added just around the time that I am finished collecting most of the cards from the previous one. I still have a lot to go with Space-Time Smackdown, but it's been interrupted by Triumphant Light and now Shining Revelry.

Also, I absolutely hate the new "AI" opponents that they added to the Ranked Matches. They are absolutely awful. Just guaranteed wins, and no fun to play against.

tgags123: I remember back when it first came out, the idea was to get at least 5,000 unique cards into the game because they had a trophy for that. I understand that if you do it too slowly, people would just keep leaving until the new sets come out, but it's honestly just a mess now with so many people unable to complete sets anymore.
