Okay I want to get an idea out here of where vizzed stands. (I would make this a poll but I want people's reasons and to be able to hear as new gens come out if this thread stands that long)
What is your favorite Pokemon generation? Why is it your favorite?

Now as any of you who know me I'm gen one in and out HOWEVER it is not my favorite. Gen one is fun I love it's quirkiness and it was my first step into Pokemon and I loved examining the ins and outs of the birth of a new franchise. (I remember spending hours reading pokedex entries checking move-pools and theorizing on lore doing such.)

You may think 3, after all I gave the remakes a glowing review which I wrote alongside my nephew as some of you may remember but while CLOSE that too is wrong.

My favorite is actually a gen I have very little experience with, gen 2. All the charm of gen 1 sprites as well as it's absurdity, the introduction of rematches as a mechanic, shinnies as well and actually mean something in terms of making a challenge. But most of all, I love how it links to the first game and the little details here and there, its a game that rewards you for noticing the details, and the legends having abit more well legend to them is neat.
I don't know it just makes my inner dev go crazy seeing the progress and want to dissect it, but it also makes the writer in me love the design. And it also hits nostalgia button I'll admit I love the grey scale yet detailed up close sprites what can I say I'm an arcade baby XD.

My favorite Pokemon generation that's a complicated question, I loved generation 2 because of the 16 gyms and two elite fours, but I also loved generation 3 (specifically Emerald) because of the battle frontier(all 8 battle facilities) and Pokemon Contests but then generation 5 had the Pokemon world championships lol how about I answer the question like this...

My favorite generation for Pokemon because of the all the pokemon in the generation were well designed is Generation 4, But my favorite generation for activities and overall a good time is Generation 3 mainly Emerald lol my old game had over 100 hours into it the contests were actually fun and I enjoyed the challenge of getting all the battle symbols from the frontier brains it's a shame the remakes Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire didn't include the full battle frontier and I didn't like how they changed the Pokemon Contests but the Mega Evolutions and the story improvement Solidified Generation 3 as one of the best and my personal favorite Gen. Also come on now who didn't want a mega metagross

Divine Aurora : As you can tell by my post I had issues discerning as well XD. Very nice thoughts and mega meta is amazin. Gen 3 was a real turning point I'll be honest nice choice and yeah 4 had nice designs the overworld sprites just bugged me personally.

Favorite Pokemon gen is a really hard question to answer for me personally cause I feel inclined to include the anime in the question along with the games since I watched the anime about 10 years before I got my first Pokemon game and then on top of that my favorite Pokemon game probably depends on the day for my answer cause Emerald, Platinum, Black 2, and Ultra Moon are all super close but I guess with me not really thinking much of Fire Red and Leaf Green I can rule out gen 3 which I don't like the anime for most of gen 3 anyway. I just realized I should probably be thinking of side games as well and while I like some of the spinoffs I don't like any of them enough for them to really influence my favorite decision. I was going to say it has be gen 7 cause I love the anime for Sun and Moon and love Ultra Moon but then I realized I hate normal Sun and Moon and thought Lets go was just okay after remembering that it's a gen 7 game at least I think. Though thinking about it more it might still have to because it's not gen 8 I think Sword and Shield are just lackluster for anything after a first playthrough and then I dislike HeartGold and SoulSilver so much I feel like it can't be gen 4 the anime is awful in gen 5 so I just go back to Alola being my favorite region and guess I'll say Gen 7 is my answer. Sorry for going all over the place I was trying to figure out my answer while typing and it definitely shows lol.

Right now I'm starting to think that my favorite generation would be gen 3 even though my favorite game is from a different generation.

I like the generation as a whole because I thought the region itself was really cool with it's water area, many of my all time favorite Pokemon were introduced in this generation, and one of my favorite Pokemon themes of all time is the gen 3 wild Pokemon theme.

Plus from 2013 until 2022, Alpha Sapphire was the only Pokemon game that I fully beat so even though that was a remake, it added a lot to my overall gen 3 experience.

I haven't actually played the fourth or fifth gens, or anything but X and Alpha Sapphire which I didn't like as much. I just know I loved the Alolan, Galarian, and Hisuian variants of Pokémon I knew and wished they were in better games. I gotta play my copies of Pearl and Black eventually, it might fill my need for a Pokémon game while Game Freak hammers out a more modern format more successfully on better hardware.

The third gen is one of my favorite games ever. With Ruby you had villains trying to awaken Groudon to cause a drought, in Sapphire you had villains trying to awaken Kyogre to flood the world. It's a sick duality and Emerald made it even cooler. It was a perfection of 16 bit top down gameplay and had a lot to offer. The world felt full and vibrant, you could farm berries and play that spinning game to make treats, the safari zone, the casino, the beauty competitions, the battle tower, it was perfect for what it was.

I play Pokémon Go and collect the cards so I still know them all, just not Scarlet/Violet yet.

The Pokémon Let's Go remakes of generation 1 were the absolute bomb! I can't think of a Pokémon game I genuinely enjoyed more. I replayed and finished Let's Go Pikachu three times and finished Let's Go Eevee once.

However, if we aren't including remakes (Or gimmick remakes,) then generation 3 (specifically Emerald version) was king of all games. I can not think of a single flaw in Pokémon Emerald, the story was perfect, map layout was perfect, characters, Pokémon, difficulty, just everything was perfect.

As for spin-off games, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. The captivating story of Pokémon Explorers of Darkness and Time, but with extras added, such as the Café being added to make li'l gummies shakes.
Pokémon Colosseum was a close second here. Extremely unique game, and whilst I replayed both games, I found Explorers of Sky had more to offer in terms of gameplay.

Probably Gen 1 (Fire Red and Leaf Green specifically). You get a lot of flack for being a fan of the older games in the community for some reason, but nostalgia isn't really a factor for me since I was still tiny when Gen 4 was new. I just love the fact that the story doesn't really hold your hand, there's no cutscenes and everything just kind of flows naturally. There's a real feeling of freedom to it even if you're still following a pre-determined path, unlike the newer games where story and cutscenes are force-fed to you whether you're enjoying them or not.

My favorite generation will have to Gen 5. I really started to understand how to actually play pokemon better during that generation. Prior to that gen i was that person who trained and used one pokemon, mainly my starter. Beat the game with one Pokemon and a bunch of HM slaves.

Generation 5 came around i started learning how to properly raise a team (not on a competitive level). After that i started having more fun with game training different pokemon to beat the gyms and elite four. Outside of that Gen 5 have a good story, and 150 unique Pokemon for the time. I still like to go back and play Pokemon White. I poured more time into that generation than any other.

Would say gen 2 would be my favorite out of all. It improved so many aspects of the game back then and brought mechanics still being used today (egg hatching, shiny Pokémon, day and night cycle). The whole 16 gyms and 100 new Pokémon was nice. It was just a great game to play and still is out of nostalgic tastes

My favorite gen is gen 6. Pokémon Y was my first Pokémon game I've play. Not only does gen 6 have really good Pokémon, it also was the first main line Pokémon game to be 3d.
The starters are very well designed, and have very good typing.
The storyline was pretty good. I love the concept of Team Flare, and I wish we got more about them.
Overall, Pokemon X & Y are very good games, and are very well designed.
My only complaint is that there are no Pokemon Z.

My favorite Pokemon gen is gen 1, "Kanto" I feel like Kanto is the most classic and is just the best gen, my favorite Pokemon came from gen 1, Bulbasuar. I have Bulbasuar all over my Profile, and my post layout, you can't say that the Kanto Pokemon don't match the other Pokemon because Kanto was the 1st gen.

My favorite Pokémon gen is gen 3 for a multitude of reasons. One of the main reasons being that Pokémon Emerald is my favorite game in the series. It was the first game to feature a battle frontier, it made many improvements from Ruby and Sapphire, and I’ll be honest I have more nostalgia for that game in particular than any of the others despite me starting in gen 1.

On top of having my favorite mainline game in the series, gen 3 also has an excellent list of spin-off games as well such as the first mystery dungeon games Red and Blue Rescue Team, the first Pokémon Ranger game, as well as Pokemon Colliseum and XD: Gale of Darkness. Gen 4 also had a great list of spin-offs, but gen 3 having Colliseum and XD sets in apart in my opinion.

Overall, I believe an argument can be made for gens 2 through 5 being the best overall, but in my opinion it’s gen 3.
