Saturday Morning Cartoons in the 21st Century: Pastime or Niche?
I have started watching 80s-90s cartoons on YouTube every Saturday morning. Does anyone else do the same?

Over the years, life has become a bit dull for me, so I thought I'd do something different for a change of pace.

So in the past few months, I thought I'd rediscover the childhood I barely remember nowadays, perhaps due to hazy memory recall. Or maybe my childhood wasn't all too interesting; just the standard gaming, moving to other places, and the usual tribulations of life...

But that's hardly the case. Since I have been researching the appeal of Saturday morning cartoons out of sheer curiosity (if not boredom), I thought, "Why not immerse myself into the concept of the Saturday morning cartoon ritual and see how fascinating it is?"

So I tried it out, and so far, I've been experiencing the positive effects of the process: the sugary cereals, the nostalgic experience (despite being born in the late 80s and in Latin America), and the novelty of different series have done wonders in boosting morale. That's when I made it a personal tradition to watch vintage animated shows every Saturday morning to blow off some steam left over from the workweek.

Which leads me to this question: does anyone else have the same feeling?

I definitely had a very different experience. Over here, Saturday morning cartoons were just what parents would put on to keep kids busy without school. So here the popularity was by default and on channels that didn't really have anything to do with cartoons.

It was mostly Saturday Evening Cartoons that were the big deal with the actual cartoon channels putting out their big shows. Saturday Mornings here had some good ones and some default ones like Chalkzone, Foster's Home, Total Drama, Blues Clues, Dora, etc.

But the Saturday evening one's across Nick/Disney/CN were all about Spongebob, Fairlyodd Parents, Danny Phantom, Jimmy Neutron, Invader Zim, Scooby Doo, Pokemon, Yugioh, Powerpuff Girls, Dexters Lab, Billy and Mandy, and so many more.

Over here, Saturday Mornings had lots of great memories but was just the little sister to Saturday evening.

Most of my youtube playlists are filled with nostalgic stuff. My issues is that what's the fun of sitting through SMC's if you can't tolerate the ads anymore, commercials aimed at kids were a whole lot watchable in my day. Last time I watched a tv viewing of The Incredibles, they kept airing that same Bunch o Ballons ad

btw here's a little sampler of what we saw in Canada back in the day (but no CCA PSA's, sorry House Hippo)

I think it really depends on the cartoons airing if you give me like Tom and Jerry I could watch and have a nostalgic time all day but if you give me more recent shows I didn't grow up with I hate it normally not sure if you meant ones you grew up with if so I definitely have done that many times.
