This is the 1st part of a short story. I decided there should be a Pac-Man story that focuses more on the ghosts' side of things. The idea is inspired by Pac-Man comics I used to write when I was much younger, so the reference to a past event in this story is referring to what happened in that comic. I've forgotten how many Pac-Man fans are on vizzed but thought I'd post this story. Enjoy!
Ghosts’ Plan
Chapter 1
“Hey I’ve been thinking a lot lately,” Blinky told Pinky.
Blinky and Pinky floated around the small building they referred to as their house. They didn’t legally live in that old, abandoned house, but they stayed there whenever they weren’t carrying out their plans. They picked this place because they wanted to keep a low profile. Otherwise, it would be extremely obvious that there were ghosts in Pac-Land, and someone would call a Pac-Cop.
The house, distant from every other house in Pac-Land, had peeling light blue paint on the outside with a creaky brown door. It also had what appeared to be a growing little forest around it. Bushes covered the walls around the door. Several massive and tall trees surrounded the rest of the house.
Inside, the windows all remained shut and covered with curtains. Between the ceiling and walls was a series of neon lights that looked like long glow sticks. Blinky installed them on their first day there, thanks to his dad giving them to him. They lit up the room with pink, orange, red, and blue.
Together, Blinky and Pinky led a small team of ghosts always on a mission to catch Pac-Man. The other members of their team, Inky and Clyde, were sleeping on the floor in a corner.
“Thinking about what? The usual? I’d love to hear it!” Pinky responded excitedly.
As Blinky’s co-leader, Pinky admired him and indeed loved to hear whatever was on his mind. In fact, they thought of each other as brothers. Thankfully, Blinky didn’t have to worry about what to pay Pinky because their work wasn’t an official job. If it was, their whole team would be arrested by Pac-Men. Because they had trained themselves so hard on mazes, they hadn’t passed through walls in a long time. They couldn’t afford to fail an attempt at it in a jail cell because the guards would hear it. Plus, the ghosts would be terribly injured.
“Yeah the usual,” Blinky answered. “Every time we try to catch Pac-Man inside or outside the maze we fail horribly. The way we’ve been doing this needs to change.”
“Agreed,” Pinky replied. No one had much trouble understanding what Blinky said despite how fast he always talked.
Inky slept silently while Clyde snored. Blinky glanced over at them. Lucky them, he thought. They aren’t awake at 2 AM like we are.
Normally, their whole team was awake that late. This time, though, they had been more independent. They were taking a break from their work to enjoy bonding time with each other. Blinky had them do this every other month. They had been very close ever since they moved out of their houses in Booming City (they always put emphasis on the “Boo”) and discovered each other while trying to find a place to stay. Pinky was happy to find other ghosts his age right away and suggested they get to know each other. It took one day for their group, more like family, to form.
“How were you thinking we should change our mission?” Pinky asked Blinky.
Blinky answered, “Well don’t you remember how embarrassing our last attempt at catching Pac-Man was?”
Pinky nodded. “Oh yeah. We knocked at Pac-Man’s door to tell him no ghosts were around, which you said with that hilariously high voice you came up with. Then we hid behind his house in a hurry. Pac-Man opened his door and said, ‘Wow, he was right, huh?’ We floated over the house to catch them, but Pac-Man turned around just in time to see us, and--”
“Alright stop it there,” Blinky cut him off. “We promised to never mention the rest of that again.”
“Sorry, man,” Pinky calmly apologized.
“It’s OK. My point is… we can’t make a plan that can go wrong that easily,” Blinky replied.
“Yeah. Maybe we should do something Pac-Man wouldn’t be prepared for,” Pinky suggested. This is the 1st part of a short story.
